    It's a very beautiful game with cool characters but there are many problems with the game. Also it's an interesting story. Here are some of the biggest problems in the game that made me rate it a 4.

    1) The gacha system is Terrible. If you want a 5 star character then sucks to be you. It's a 0.6% chance of getting a 5 star. I did around 100 summons on 2 different banners and didn't get    It's a very beautiful game with cool characters but there are many problems with the game. Also it's an interesting story.     1) The gacha system is Terrible. If you want a 5 star character then sucks to be you. It's a 0.6% chance of getting a 5 star. I did around 100 summons on 2 different banners and didn't get one 5 star. I also didn;t get that many 4 star stuff because i got many dupes of characters that i already have. There is a 90 pity system though which happens after you do 90 summons and if you don't get a 5 star in 89 summons then you are guaranteed to get it on the 90th pull. But the pity system isn't that good which ill explain in number 2.

    2) It's a VERY VERY grindy game. When you get around level 20 and up it starts to become pretty grindy. When you get to level 30 then you gotta grind a lot. The problem is the higher you get level wish the less you'll get primogems which are used to buy summoning crystals. It is VERY hard to get primogems and xp when you are higher level (around level 20 and up).

    3) There is a resin problem which makes it even more difficult to grind the game.

    4) The story is good but you need to be a certain level to do the main story. So basically you do chapter 1 and then you go on chapter 2 but you need to be like level 10. Then you complete that chapter and go on to chapter 3 but before you can go on you need to get around 3-5 levels before you can go on in the main story. That happens with every chapter. Imagine that when you are level 30 and it gets very hard to level up and you need to be like level 32 to continue the story. It's not that good.

    Also for the gacha system part where you summon for characters and loot, it took a streamer around $2,000 dollars to get a specific character he wanted. And if you want a character from a banner you basically need to spend a couple hundred bucks to get the character if you don't get very lucky with the summons you can muster up from your long grinding.

    All in all the game graphic, characters and story is good but all the problems will overshadow the good aspects of the game later on into the game when you get higher level. If your the type of person that loves to grind a LOT and doesn't care about getting new characters or like spending money on games then this game is perfect for you, but if you care about getting some of the characters and don't like grinding so much and don't like spending money then this game isn't for you in the long run.    … Expand

    But...
    If you have any intention of playing the game beyond that initial burst of gameplay you are going to start seeing issues very quickly. There are some technical issues such as not being able to change key-binds or turn off frame-rate locks but MiHoYo has already said they intend to fix those in 1.1, the real issue is in the monetization.
    1. Its a gatcha game, so all of your characters except a sparse few you get for free when you start, are going to come from lootboxes - in this game called "Wishes" - given the nature of this game that is to be expected, but in GI the rates are absolutely terrible. 0.6% chance of a 5* and 5.1% chance of a 4* with 100% pity rolls at 90 and 10 wishes respectively in theory this wouldn't be so bad if the game gave you lots of free rolls, and it does... at the start. But after that you stop getting free premium currency almost all together (60/day from dailies, while wishes cost 160) and free wish items Acquaint Fates or Intertwined Fates also start to become very rare likely in the range of about 1/wk after AR 40 - This becomes an issue when you look at the cost of primogems combined with the droprates the first time you buy primogems you get a 1x bonus so 6,480+6,480 for $100 which equates to only 81 wishes while after the first time purchase bonus it drops to 6,480+1600 for $100 which is only 50.5 wishes - the rate up banner gives you a 50% chance of pulling the character featured so if you really want that character and don't pull it on the first pity you have to wait for the 2nd pity at 180 wishes, That's $300 to 100% get the character from the banner and if you want other 5*s not featured in the banner you are looking at thousands potential 10s of thousands of dollars to get the character you want, keep in mind that after you get a character for the first time they are not removed from the drop pool after you hit max constellation so you could have "wasted" pity rolls on top of the already low rates.

    2. The Resin System: Need Mora to pay for upgrades? Resin. Need xp books to level characters? Resin. Want some good gear? Resin AND RNG.
    Resin is a Stamina system that allows you to spend a slowly refilling resource to get loot from various tasks in game: world bosses that drop character ascension materials, domains that drop talent materials/weapon ascension materials/artifacts, weekly bosses, ley line's that give xp books or Mora. Domains and ley lines cost 20, bosses cost 40 and weekly bosses cost 60. Resin refreshes at a rate of 1 per 8 minutes and caps at 120 giving you a maximum of 180/day without refreshing. That's 1 weekly boss and 3 open world bosses or roughly 20 minutes of gameplay a day. combine that with the 10 minutes for your daily missions and you only get 30 minutes of meaningful progression content a day without paying money for more game time. Its like an arcade except instead of a quarter its a dollar, and everytime you want to add more the machine charges you more, and after 6 refreshes the machine tells you to go home and that you can't play anymore. I don't think I have EVER encountered a PC game that actively tried to discourage you from playing it in the way that Genshin does.

    3. Chest respawn timers: when you first enter the world its full to bursting with loads of things to pick up, enemies to fight and chests to open, but after the first week or so when you've opened all or most of the default spawn locations the world starts to feel barren, you'll spend time running around aimlessly remembering the feeling of your first time through the world trying to get that enjoyment again, but its just not there with only a handful of chests re-spawning in random locations on a weekly timer there just stops being anything to do outside of instanced content - unless you want to spend hours running around other people's worlds hitting rocks....

    In short MiHoYo's greed, lack of meaningful open world content at higher levels, and gameplay time restrictions take what is otherwise an extremely enjoyable game and turn it into a frustrating mess.    … Expand

    - Heroes and weapons are not balanced, so on higher levels base heroes are almost pointless, so you need to roll loot boxes to get better heroes randomly, from a lot of crap.
    - Heroes and weapons can    Not a bad game if you will play story and discover the environment, but at this state this is one of the worst Gambling Machine Simulators in the market, there will not be a big problem if -

    - Heroes and weapons can be upgraded just by their duplicates, so you need to buy more loot boxes, to get about 6 more copies of item you need
    - Weekly, with heavy grind, you will get maximum 10 rolls for loot boxes after Randk 32, so if even they will not add any new stuff in Wishes (Loot boxes), you will need at least 150 weeks to upgrade out 2 heroes to their average power, but you need at least 6 different elements, so at least you will need at least 4 different heroes of top tier with 4 different weapons of top tier.
    - Even if you will want to grind, you are limited, cos you have "energy" limit, to grind content, so if you spending in around of $2000 on Wishes was not enough for you and now you finally want to Play content of the game, but you energy ended, you have option to Spend More Money to buy this Energy!!! < Perfect!!!

    Do not get me wrong, the game itself is good, to run around the world, play the story, search for the lore and some side stories, but this is it, play and forget, or become an addicted person, who will spend thousands of dollars, to have any fun from it over rank 30+, for now it's a lost potential of a really Good F2P game, which now is a Heavy Gambling Machine, unfortunately.

    But you still can have 10 hours of fun for free, so -
    ATTENTION: DANGER - Do not get Addicted!! Do not spend money at this state of the game.

    So for a Game: 8/10
    For a Gambling Machine Simulator on later levels: -8/10
    I love this game and hate their economical idiocy at the same time, I was looking to buy BP or Blessing, but after seeing this craps (especially it feels after R30) this game will see $0 from me, until they will not change it to somehow fair, reasonable and balanced form, there are a lot of F2P games with a really good, friendly and balanced economical models, when you do not need to sell house to get something useful on higher levels and ranks.

    Also, game have mixed optimization, on the one hand it mostly (Mostly) run very smooth, but you can't even normally change Kaymaping, game have some badly optimized areas too, vertical mouse sensitivity is an absurd, mouse feels like swimming and that can't be changed, camera lives in its own live sometimes, when you jump, camera may automatically look down, game can't use whole potential of GPU and CPU, also do not use extra RAM space, so even on SSD it have some MF sometimes, also it have quite unstable FPS on Pascal architecture and many other small problems.

    Hahaha, now they add event, where you need to specd resin, to get **** amount of Gems... :D And they people say, that AA or BDO are Donating Trash games.... :D    … Expand

    Genshin Impact is a beautiful game dragged down by its long-term content. Once you've cleared the (admittedly great) single-player content, there's very little to do. The energy system ("Resin") restricts productive play to roughly twenty minutes a day without spending, and the gacha rates are abysmally low (lower even than stingy FGO). Don't bother playing until these issues are fixed.

    It baits you into thinking it's an open world adventure game, but open world content respawn rate is too low to play it beyond the first week. After that you're stuck farming the same 1 room dungeons or bosses a certain amount of time every day, and the most you can do about it is pay real money to be allowed to farm those exact same things more often.     Not only does it force you to smash into a paywall as soon as you are addicted - and believe me they do everything they can to achieve that- but also changes the genre from entertaining to boring at the same time, so even if you do pay, it's not going to be fun. Buy hey, if you already paid 10 thousand dollars for the characters you like as it literally is that expensive, paying a hundred dollars every day to be allowed to kill another 500 of the same slime monsters in a single room "dungeon" is worth it because then you don't have to admit you have been scammed and the open world game was a lie.    … Expand

    Honestly, this game isn't bad at first, I was really impressed by the amount of quality contents put into this game (story, graphics, soundtracks, characters..) However, all of them were ruined by the greedy and predatory business practices of this game. First of all, the gacha mechanic.     First of all, the gacha mechanic. It is absolutely horrible because of the fact that spending 100 $ can't even get you a 5 stars character/weapon unless you are very very lucky. The percentage of pulling a 5 stars character in this game is 0.6 %, the absolute worst out of all the mobile games I have ever played for 5 years. If you somehow decide to play this game, please stay away from the gacha because all it does is destroying your wallet.

    Secondly, the resin/energy system. Once you hit Adventurer Level 35, all you'll do in this game everyday is spending 10 minutes beating the same boring dungeons/bosses and collect some materials, which aren't even enough to upgrade your characters. And if you want to play more, you have to spend money to buy more resin/energy because all they want is forcing you to cough up some money one way or another. What kind of game forces players to pay for their play time ? Is this some kind of arcade game now !?

    Finally, the rewards you get from playing this game. Unlike other F2P games that showers you with premium currencies and materials to get new characters or upgrade them (Fate/Grand Order, Arksknight, Azur Lane..) this game does the opposite by giving you not even the bare minimum. There's no daily log in rewards like other mobile games, events and achievements rewards are a joke because at most you'll get is 200 gems and you need 1600 gems to just do 10 rolls in the gacha. Open world exploration is not even worth doing because even after running around the large map opening chests, you get worthless gears, pathetic amount of 200 gold at most, and you need at least millions to upgrade just one character.

    All in all, I suggest everybody to stay away from this game because it is not worth playing at all. Please save your time and money on something more worthy, you can buy some good indie games and still have way more fun than playing this pathetic, greedy game that aims at nothing but destroying your wallet. And I still haven't talked about the lack of communication and tone deaf attitude from the developers.    … Expand

    You can basically only play the game for 15 minutes daily before you are forced to buy more "resin" (energy). WIthout it you are unable to collect rewards of dungeons and enemy encounters. A fundemental part of every rpg, and this game.
    There is no way to level up your characters, and in general progress, after a certain point in the game without using these dungeons. In other words there is nothing else to do.
    The rates at which you unlock new characters through gambling are too low as well. And the amount of money spend on each roll is way too high.
    Though again, even if you get lucky, you will barely be able to play that character because you are not allowed to grind for the required materials without spending even more on microtransaction.

    Stay away from this game and the company behind it. They don't listen to their community. They spit on everyone, including paying customers.
    (Some more personal issues with this game):
    I am not really saying that the gameplay in Genshin is entirely bad, but there really is not much to do When you're unable to choose the characters you wish to play.
    (Daily logins with barely any rewards and the same repetitive and underwhelming tasks definitely take a toll on you after a while)
    The gacha, characters only being obtainable through lootboxes, is really pulling down the score of this game.
    Players who don't choose to spend 1000-20000$ on this game will never obtain the full constellation of even one character (bonuses and special properties which are added to the kit of a character, changing up the way the function)
    It especially is heartbreaking when you read the stories of a certain character which you unlock by playing them, through "friendship exp", getting to know them better. But you still cannot make that character function, and have the most fun with them without getting their constellations.

    Imagine Battlefront, but you need to pay 1000$ to unlock Vader as a playable character, and then another 6000$ to unlock all his abilities and passives.    … Expand

    Don't be fooled ; the game is great at it's start, but when you play enough, you start to realize the shallowness of it's core gameplay, the resin will in the end prevent you to do any meaningful content for more than 20mn a day, and this is by far the most mingy gacha game i played, you get lots of free summon at the start, but then after a while, nothing, not even a free summon everyday,Don't be fooled ; the game is great at it's start, but when you play enough, you start to realize the shallowness of it's core gameplay, the resin will in the end prevent you to do any meaningful content for more than 20mn a day, and this is by far the most mingy gacha game i played, you get lots of free summon at the start, but then after a while, nothing, not even a free summon everyday, don't waste your time and money on this, it's at the moment only the facade of what it could have been.… Expand

Many will argue that this IS a mobile game that got a console and PC port, but the games advertising and developers refuse to admit it. You are going to see a lot of overlap from PC, console and mobile users all applying their own standards to the game, but for a PC game this is not something I would recommend somebody invest too much of their time in to, because this game is out for blood (your wallet).… Expand

    In order to play the game I taught myself Chinese, download the advance version on September 15, now my adventure level is 40, play time more than five hours a day. It was a very, very bad experience after the high level game. I had a great time in the first 20 hours. I charged $300, but after that there was nothing new to play.     The game starts out great with fun game play, a wonderful aesthetic, and smooth consistent progression of your characters. Once you get out of the prolog though you realize all of the smoothness you experience then was a bait and switch when you hit the hard timewalls where the game asks you to wait weeks to level characters or pay money to shorten it to days. This game has so much potential but it is just completely eaten away by incredibly predatory mobile mechanics that just feel tacked on to the rest of the game.

    I can live with the TERRIBLE gacha rates and the poor value for money spent there, but I cannot recommend to anyone a game that actively discourages you to play it.    … Expand

    Mihoyo is a scummy company that priotizes their cash flow rather than their playerbase. One of my friends is an artist that was commissioned by Mihoyo. Mihoyo then later on said that they would NOT be paying her (as per their terms of service, which is highly unjust and immoral).

    It become incredibly shallow and boring after the first chapter, the map are big and pretty but there are so many mindless grind and exploration is not rewarding. They can't give you cool stuff like fancy weapon because that's for payed lootbox only, so all you get is just fodders.

    Just wanted to say that this game is really amazing, and has great potential.

    However, at the end of the day, it is still a gacha game with abysmal rates as well as extremely expensive rolls (avg $2 USD per roll). Right now a lot of players aren’t complaining about this because of the games honeymoon phase but this is detrimental to F2P player base months down the road if Mihoyo doesn’t    Just wanted to say that this game is really amazing, and has great potential.

    Now to address the resin issue. For starters, you can’t even finish the weekly resin usage missions on the battle pass without spending primogems or fragile resin to refresh. What kind of joke is this if you’ve bought the battle pass? It’s like paying $10 for the pass, then requiring to spend extra resources/money just to complete the pass. 8 min per 1 resin capped at 120 is a ridiculously low cap and slow regeneration rate even for a gacha game. At least in Fate Grand Order they allow you to raise your cap through levels and let you stack a lot of energy regen materials like golden apples for events for free.

    After AR30, the game becomes super dry in terms of content, I just log in, do dailies, use up resin for 20 min, and just log off. I think this problem will be resolved once new content gets released, but is also a byproduct of the poorly designed resin system.

    I really hope Mihoyo listens to players criticism and feedback. Like I said, this game has great potential, and I want to see it succeed, but this starts with communication and cooperation between the developer and player base.

    I give it 1/10 out of respect for the amazing art/music in this game. But the core gameplay system is just straight up terrible    … Expand

    This game has crazy potential. First 30 or so adventure levels are fantastic. But after that, there is no real endgame. You log on, do dailies, and do as many activities as the game's incredibly limited stamina system allows. And even if that stamina system weren't there, or even if it had been significantly improved, there isn't much to do. At all.

    Imagine playing Skyrim, but only 20 minutes per day. Imagine pulling a weapon or character with no chance of upgrading it in less than a month. Thats the ARPG that meant to overthrow these greedy AAA gaming companies, but was able to overthrow only itself and all the players.

    Beautiful design and interesting characters that draw you in if you are a fan of that style. However, don't be fooled this is all about money and capping you after you reach a certain level. If you are a whale with money go mad, but everyone else avoid the disappointment.

In order to get materials and money to level up your character you need to go on dungeons and the game only allows you to do 6 of them per day. The only thing you can do is free roam and do nothing at all in the game if you do your 6 dungeons a day. You can choose to do 3 bosses instead of the 6 dungeons and thats it.

    Please do not download this game, it's a complete waste of time and money. It encourages gambling and addiction and gives nothing back. It's extremely anti-consumer and they don't listen to feedback at all. There are many people who are getting paid to argue on reddit and forums and defend the company.     After all, why play a game that you can't, well, play. Even whales will most likely see the lack of sense in dropping thousands of Dollars on characters and weapons they won't be able to enjoy using due to the extreme limitations stopping them from effectively leveling said characters and weapons up.

    Just the other day I rolled a new character, not one I really wanted a great deal but I'd still like to try them out, but since I got her she's been relegated to running the in game 20hour "expeditions" where the character becomes unavailable to use but comes back after that time with a small amount of resources.

    If this system didn't exist, or at the very least was reworked to be far less, or not at all, restricting then I'd happily give the game a 9/10, but right now I can't bring myself to give it a score higher than 3 because what use is a computer game you can't play as much as you want to?

    Imagine if Skyrim restricted you to 4 side missions and 2 main mission a day, and if you wanted to kill a boss during any of them it cost you one of your limited missions? There's no way it would be as successful as it was.

    Happy customers stick around, they're returning customers, but Mihoyo right now has a whole lot of very unhappy and frustrated customers on their hands and they're about to lose a lot of people that may have otherwise invested in their Battle Pass and Monthly "Welkin Moon" pseudo-subscription. This is also how you get any decent weapon in the game, which competes against getting a character as well. A new character is, so far, released monthly.

    3. Sold your car to finally get that character you want? Please see the above transactions, stop progress on everything else, and wait a month for random weekly drops to make them playable compared to your older characters.

    This is typical Chinese mobile/web game routine. Chinese players notice this pattern since Genshin's 1st day of launching as they are already very familiar with this. That's why its scored so low in Chinese gaming communities. I worked in Chinese mobile game industry before and what I can tell you is they do not value fun gameplay so much, they always treat that as a hook to innocent players. Instead they believe the business model and monetization is the only valueable thing in game industry. A famous quotation in the industry ,given by Shi Yuzhu who made a top grossing mmorpg about 10 years ago says "Put 95% of your good art resource in to the first 5% of the game". For the past 15 years, this twisted value in game industry almost killed Chinese console/PC game industry,especially blocking the single player game studio from having any resource. This is why Black Myth: Wukong is given so much credit as it is really a brave act to even try to make a good single-player game that focus on gameplay in China.

    I admit Genshin has a much longer single-player RPG gameplay period than those typical P2W or Gacha mobile games. However as I suspect the game is still applying this terrible routine and as long as their management team still believes in the value of business model and monetization instead of gameplay, there's absolutely no reason the resin system will be reworked. They will probably feed you more resin when you get raged with activities until less people talks about it.

    Well I'm not a Mihoyo employee so you might consider all this just my personal guess. Actually if Mihoyo decide to change Genshin into something more like a single-player RPG or an MMORPG I would be happy as well. But again, taking consideration from what this company has done in the past, for Genshin CBT and other games, that chance is too low.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I must say the concept is well, quite good. But i give mixed score because of this :

    - Many say the graphic is good, and yes its good.... for a mobile game and not pc game standart (RDR 2 for me is still had the best graphic) and its not well optimized.

    - The UI is too crowded for me and i understand this because this is a mobile game first and foremost

    - PAIMON IS SO ANNOYING!!!

    - The open world is really interesting to explore at first hour. Collecting chest, exploring dungeons, killing enemies, doing side stories, etc. But after a while, the world feels somewhat empty and the game become quite repetitive at long play and somewhat become boring to play (dunno if this true at later updates though)

    - The stamina system is bad, almost everything you do cost a stamina (sprinting, climbing and gliding) and the weird part is all characters share the same stamina

    - The Gacha system is meh... the rate is so low and to get better characters (or waifus) and weapons, gacha is a must because all obtainable weapons in the world are pretty bad. I rather pay $60 and all characters( or waifus) and weapons can be unlocked by progressing the game rather than spend $100 to get a single character (or waifu) and weapon

    - Not just Gacha, the entire monetization in this game is sooo bad, other than paying to get the premium currency, there's also a monthly subscribtion and battle pass which you have to pay separately so you can gamble more for characters and weapons. The fact that this is a single player focus game is disgust me.

    - Oh and people who says don't need to pay and play f2p is fine is wrong. Yes you can play free but what if you already reach the endgame? You gonna have a hard time if you don't have 5 star character as the game will be getting more and more difficult (already experience it on Honkai Impact 3).

    I know this is a shameless copy of BOTW but this isn't bad at all, the game has its own taste with the themes and identity.

    I can't say the story is good or bad though but i really hope the story doesn't take too long to finish ( i say this because i play Honkai Impact 3rd and bored with the game because the story takes too long and no end in sight as of now and gameplay is too repetitive).

    Already reach AR45 now and i don't think i'm gonna change my score anytime soon due to this
    - The game somewhat become boring due to lack of endgame content.
    - Already finish the chapter 1 story and the quailty is average to me, more or less a typical high fantasy story.
    - The resin system is kinda meh, limits my progress so much.
    - Once again, the gacha. Already got one 5 star character but too many 4 star due to low rate of the gacha, and i don't feel like to pay for primogems due to the low rate.
    Thank God this game doesn't win Ultimate game of the year of Golden Joystick Award, if this game win then gamers around the world is really evolving backwards (liking game that encourage gambling than premium but complete pay to play games).    … Expand

    2. The shadows render distance seems low and take se out of the game. (We are in the days of ray traced shadows, please at least make your shadows have higher render distance) 3. locked to 60 FPS, I have a 144 Hz screen I can't see a    Looks like a great game, but there are few issues:

    I have switched back to QWERTZ keyboard, and the game now has keyboard mapping.
    Does this mean the game is good now? Not really I don't really like the characters and the story.

    You see people trying to defend the game by saying "This is a Gacha game. This is how it works. This is how it's been for years." Now all these things are complete BS.

    Genshin isn't and was never intended to be your typical mobile gacha. It tried to appeal to the mainstream audience. The instant Genshin was being developed for PC, Switch and PS4 it rose above your typical Gacha game. It wanted to cater to the mainstream crowd. Now this creates the very big problem that is the difference between Mainstream gamers like PC, PS4, Switch and Gacha Addict mobile market. While gacha addicted mobile gamers are used to being fcked over by **** practices by those companies, the mainstream crowd is different. Some of them are completely new to the gacha system. Just accept the fact that gacha is a very bad monetization model, some games have implemented it in a nicer way which actually isn't bad, but Genshin monetization is just straight up ridiculous.

    Genshin was promoted as JRPG from the very beginning instead of being your usual gacha mobile game. This is where most of the mainstream players expectations shattered. Things like being limited by stamina system for play is a norm practice in mobile games(Not all games do this but most of them do) BUT it's not in the mainstream market and this is something which is not acceptable when you go for broader market. You can't just expect them to conform to your **** stamina system and be all happy happy. You're gonna get backlash.

    Resin(this absolute piece of **** item in Genshin)

    Resin system is just ridiculous. While being already bad in the first place, it's way worse compared to even the stamina system of other mobile gacha games. Almost 95% of the stuff you do in the game is locked behind resin system. You wanna farm Mora? go spend resin, you wanna farm exp? go spend resin, you wanna farm artifacts? go spend resin, you wanna farm upgrade materials? go spend resin. What's even more ridiculous is the amount you need per dungeons, bosses and the amount you get.

    Resin is capped at 120. So you can run hypostasis 3 times and poof it's gone. Once you get to higher level even running hypostasis 3 times doesn't give you enough material to level up your character. The regen rate is also crap 1 resin per 8 minutes.

    Beginning of the game is truly amazing. It's sad to see that the game is neglected during adventure rank 30+. It feels more like a chore or a task than a game. I truly hope that the company will see it's issues and fix the game.

    -The rates are the worst I've ever seen a gacha have, 0.6% for a 5* is already terrible on paper, but it's even worse when you have a 50% chance to get a weapon or character you don't want, making it 0.3% to get what you were aiming for.
    -On top of this, the game is even more frigid with free rolls than any other gacha, even FGO, which itself is incredibly stingy with free rolls compared to other gacha, gives almost THREE TIMES as many rolls as GI.

    The gear system is awful too, stats on any accessory are rolled randomly, and the game is designed so that only offensive stats are useful due to most 'end game' content being DPS races, so even in the rare scenario where you get a 5* trinket, you're very likely to end up with defense, defense %, HP, and HP%, all of which are completely useless. This system is designed to pressure players into buying more resin refills.
    Additionally, 5* weapons can ONLY be acquired through rolling the gacha.

    If the aggressive monetization is lessened, I would rate this game higher, but in its current state it should be avoided unless you're okay with MiHoYo squeezing every single penny out of your wallet.    … Expand

    -They use every trick in the book to play with your psyche and force you to spend. From plentiful rewards at the start to drought after, from event rewards just 10 or 20 primogems away from being able to afford an additional wish and etc.
    -Deaf defs. We asked to rework or remove Resin system, they increase Resin cap. Which changes literally nothing. It’s like giving a starving person a bigger empty plate.

Chance for getting a 5* star character are lower that 1%... Are you serious? They are expecting 100$+ from each player. Oh, you're not paying, or you're not paying enough? - No good characters/weapons for you.
    Other gatcha games at least give you some "premium" currency so you can accumulate it and go for pulls. But this game gives you 5 currency for every achivement, and you will be saving up a week to do one 10-pull (which costs 1600). And you will get same ****, like you're opening common chests all over the map.

    - Combat system is okay, i like the element mechanic.

    All in all, pay-to-win, don't bother if you're not planning to throw some $$$ every few days. Biggest gaming let-down of 2020. Not coming back.    … Expand

The game is not f2p friendly by any means. The main story won't take you long to beat. Even if you decide to put $60 which is equivalent to a AAA game, it will not get you much. As a single-player game, it's great to float around and explore the map. However, the best/better weapons and characters are locked behind a THICK paywall. I can not emphasize this enough. Each character feels unique and offers very different things to the team that you build. Which is an excellent feature that would be better if you could actually unlock characters at a decent rate. The only hope you have as a f2p or AAA spender to get an upgraded team is by dumb luck. This game was designed only to appease whales. If you have $700+ to blow on nothing else, then by all means go for it. But as it stands, I have seen content creators blow $5k to get what they wanted. The rewards are given to you as a f2p is only what you get for the first 20 levels after that expect to not get anything. If you grind every day for 7 days a week you should be able to get a 4* once a week. Once you have finished the first Act there is literally nothing but grinding that requires extra grinding to grind. I.E. the materials you need to level characters/weapons typically require you to use resin. You have a max resin of 120. It recharges at an abysmal rate. In one day if you play early in the morning and then later at night you should be able to spend about 160 resin in a day. This isn't enough daily to grind through to level weapons/characters unless of course, you spend that sweet in-game currency which is your only hope to acquire new characters. If you want one of those sweet 5* characters, as a f2p kiss that dream goodbye. You need 90 wishes to get one. Unless your stupid lucky that one time. Let's break this down, you get a 4* after 10 wishes, as a f2p you can get this once a week if you grind diligently every day. That means after 2 months you get to open a 5*. Updates with new characters are expected at this time period. They promised that there will be free events that will give rewards. This past event only gave 2 free wishes. This was factored into the average wishes per week. After level 40 you can kiss this sweet average goodbye. You will receive wishes based on chests which net you 1 - 5 gems, you need 160 for one wish. Daily missions can net you 40 gems. In-game rewards vary but will come to a roaring halt after level 40. I will revise my review if MiHoYo fixes the resin system and the rate to acquire primogems. I propose that they give more rewards for events, dailies, and more goals. I propose that with daily and heavy grinding a f2p player should be able to open a 5* once a month. With weapons needing 5 copies to max level and 6 copies of a character to max level, getting a 5* once a month should seem reasonable. They do offer a character banner that you can get a guaranteed 5* after the 2nd pity. Which is after 180 wishes. If they are changing the banner 1 - 2 months, as a f2p you are very likely to never hit the pity for the character you want, even when it's "guaranteed". If you are just looking for a quick f2p rpg that has plenty of exploration and a decent albeit generic story this is a great game. I would give it an 8. But since it throws the other characters and weapons behind a paywall that is nearly impossible unless you whale it out, it gets very generous 4. I hope they change it so it is more rewarding for the f2p and at the VERY least for those who decided to put some $$$ get more bang for their buck. Whales don't even need to be considered as they will throw as much $$$ as they can and won't need the content.

    As of right now, it seems like whales are going to plunge in more money. The company could care less for f2p. If you want to spend money, don't spend more than a AAA game as you will not receive ANYTHING close to what you should. The company is not going to reward players as long as people keep dropping paychecks every update. If you have the thousands to spend on this game, by all means go for it. Hell, I even thought the music score was done fantastically. But when you get pulled in, then you will realize what a trap this game is, and how incomplete it is.

    You grinded your Adventure Rank because you want to level up your characters? Well here's a giant wall to block your progress from obtaining anything and only allow you to play ~10 min per day. The world becomes a desolate wasteland as chests do not "re"-spawn and there is literally nothing to do. Even the chests give a measly amount of primogems are garbage loot, so it feels like you are a "garbage collector" (term used from Chinese forums) when you are chest hunting.

    Now lets talk gacha. 0.6% chance to get a 5*, with 90 rolls being the pity timer. Lets do the math shall we? 90 * 160 = 14,400 primogems. Pure free to play players, once reaching the end-game, will only have daily commissions as a steady source of gems (Spiral Abyss doesn't count, the refreshable reward levels are just flexing grounds for whales, have fun fighting lvl 100 enemies on Floor 12), which ends up being a measly 60 primogems per day. A lack of a permanent login reward system also hurts this further. It will take 14,400 / 60 = 240 DAYS FOR A F2P TO GET TO PITY WITH ONLY DAILY COMMISSIONS. Also that 0.6% summon rate is a joke, Chinese players made a joke already of spontaneous car glass exploding at 0.3% and that we should be happy its twice the rate. Now imagine you hit pity on the permanent banner. Well, there's now a near 50/50 chance of getting a weapon instead of a character. Now let's get this straight. 5* weapons are nice but they just can't compare to characters. What use is a 5* weapon when you don't even have a character to equip it to? What a joke.

    Now some may say, "other "gacha" games started out with poor systems as well, just wait for Mihoyo to improve with QoL changes!". Well first of all, Genshin Impact isn't supposed to be a gacha game. It was supposed to appeal to the global audience, including PC/Console players and not JUST mobile players. Can't wait for Cyberpunk to be released and have the entire PC/Console playerbase die out! (Sarcasm, but the reality of this happening is not very unlikely). Secondly, this isn't even Mihoyo's first "gacha" game. It has a terrible system even considered in today's "gacha" games, and Mihoyo isn't stupid. They already have experience with Honkai Impact 3 (Which I heard they improved drastically in terms of QoL changes), so what does this mean? THIS MEANS THAT MIHOYO IS DOING THIS ON PURPOSE. The reason for this is unknown. Thoughts of mine on this are they want to do a cash-grab approach and try to keep the player base with freebies once the hype starts dying down.

    Now you can dispute my opinions if you wish. Not everyone plays this game in a grindy way, and some enjoy playing it slow-paced and don't experience this problem. BUT please, just respect other people's opinions on this game. We are trying to improve the game, it's not like we're just scummy people to Mihoyo for no reason.     If you made it this far into my review, congrats. Genshin Impact has a chance to make history as a game with record-breaking numbers. Don't get me wrong, there are aspects of this game I enjoy, such as the story, characters, and the music (it's amazing, trust me, especially the Liyue soundtrack).

    They really think normal people without gacha addition will spend around 400$ for a guaranteed 5 star character or weapon! And of course good luck upgrading constellation character or refine weapon gacha.

    Meet resin system. The mobile game standard energy system, making almost all of playable character's progression options gated by time. For 1 resin recharge time every 8 minutes. You need 16 hours to refill the capped amount of 120 resin, which will be used up in less than 30 minutes game time.

    You want to level up your characters? Spend resin.
    You want to increase level cap of your characters? Spend resin.
    You want to increase your characters talent level? Spend resin.
    You want to upgrade your character's weapons? Spend resin.
    You want to increase level cap of your weapons? Spend resin.
    You want to get artifact for your characters? Spend resin.
    You don't have enough currency (mora) to do any of things above? Spend more resin.

    This might not be a problem if they make the recharge time faster or the amount of drop increases but right now it's just plain disgusting. Someone already do the math on reddit and to fully leveled one of your character, with no mats it took weeks if not month. You can spend money to recharge half of cap amount and even that is limited to 6 times a day with a total of $10~. This is so stupid that even if you whale and spend on their main monetization which is gacha, you might not be able to use the character's for month.

    The problem is that the resin system is so obscured until you spend around one week of playing the game. You watch the game with brilliant shiny glasses until you finished the main storyline that abruptly end, and reach Adventure Rank 30 and start to notice the problematic resin system. And when you finally reach Adventure Rank 35 the problem is becoming way more apparent.

    Genshin Impact grossed $100 million in less than 2 weeks. I believe those people have yet to reach AR35 when spending money on this. I bet a lot of people regret spending their money way to early in the game just to meet with this time-gated content. If not, then Mihoyo successfully laid them in their predatory monetization traps.

    I suggest you to stay away from this game at least until they actually heard the community, and change this massive **** system.    … Expand

Apart from the whole system of stamina/energy by itself? You have to wait EIGHT MINUTES TO RECHARGE ONE POINT, IT'S CAPPED AT 120... But wait, in 1.1 they will increase the cap to 160 :)... IT'S TOO MUCH GRIND FOR A GAME THAT SHOULD BE ENCOURAGING YOU TO GET NEW CHARACTERS.
    Hell, this game was good when it launched, you get to explore a new world full of things to do, places to explore, quests to complete... It was a game so good that I even felt bad for it being a free to play. Those were the good times in low Adventure Rank 1-30. But when the story and side quests end you face the reality, the game you have been playing is empty, there is no end-game content, and if it does have end game content it is extremely difficult to achieve because it requires you to have TWO FULL TEAMS OF FOUR MAX LEVELED CHARACTERS TO COMPLETE, DO THE MATH.
    The game has NO LOGIN SYSTEM, FOR LOGGING IN YOU GET NOTHING whereas other gacha games offer a free 1 pull a day. Did I mention the lowest rates?? But wait, you can buy a "Blessing of the welkin moon" for 5 dollars to receive 3k primogems along 30 days!! Too bad that gives you 90 primogems, and you need 160 for 1 pull.
    Also, coop sucks and the frames are capped at 60.
    In conclusion: this game will die sooner or later because not even whales can play and if they did and they removed resin, they will take a long time of no-life grinding anyway so... If you read this far and thought about playing this game, just don't, or just play it for the story quests and drop it.

It also prevents you from doing any important progression parts of the game, which all require Resin, to be able to collect the rewards. It stacks up to weeks upon weeks, just to be able to use a single character that you might have paid hundreds of dollars or more to get through the aforementioned Gacha system. This game has a lot of potential. But without some serious Overhauls to the games mid-endgame gatekeeping. Only allowing you to make any real progress for maybe 15 minutes a day.     IF YOU ARE intending to play this game with friends, it is worth mentioning that the co-op system is absolutely riddled with glitches and feels unfinished. You will not have a pleasant experience playing with friends. Treat this game as a singleplayer game. A lot of people have a misconception that this game is a MMORPG, however it is NOT one and will NEVER become one.

    My biggest complaint is that the company behind Genshin Impact (miHoYo) completely disregards their playerbase and feedback to the point where it is quite clear that they just DO NOT care. You should know that whatever suggestions/feedback you send to miHoYo or their staff will go unheard for the sake of continuing to milk their playerbase's wallet. The surveys in-game are purely Public Relations purposes and have no meaningful contribution to improving the game. There is no communication between the devs, PR team and the playerbase. The staff and devs do not listen to player feedback and makes it quite clear that they will not be fixing any of the issues any time soon. miHoYo uses predatory monetization tactics. They even go as far as scripting fake "leaks" to keep their playerbase on the edge with false hope. The only things that have been confirmed is information that was already in the closed beta testing. Everything afterwards is just empty promises with the intention of stalling their playerbase. miHoYo carefully manipulates their phrasing and wording to deceive players.

    - Primogems - Primogems are a form of in-game currency. At the start of the game, the world is filled with chests that reward the player with primogems as you open them. However, you come to realize that these chests DO NOT respawn. Your influx of primogems quickly runs DRY. The only way to obtain primogems is through purchase with real life money and/or doing your daily commissions (which only give you 60 primogems per day).

    - Gacha Rates - The gacha rates are abysmal. Definitely the worst gacha system by far. Your chances of getting a 5* star character is incredibly low (0.6% chance). You will have to spend about $200+ USD to get one. If this was not bad enough, there is little-to-no ways to obtain primogems by simply playing the game after Adventure Rank 35. (You need 160 primogems for a single pull)

    - Events - Do not even get me started on these events. These "events" are tedious with little rewards. These events are recycled from the closed beta testing (the developers have not even polish them since) with a glitchy co-op system. The rewards are not meaningful enough to get excited about.

    - Also, if you are planning to submit artwork to one of their events/contests, I suggest that you read the User Contributions part of their Terms of Service on the Genshin Impact website. Otherwise, you might find yourself at the short-end of the stick.

    - Stamina System AKA Resin System - This becomes a huge problem later on in the game. If you are looking for a long-term game that you can consistently play, then this is not the game for you. The game becomes nearly unplayable as most content become blocked by the Stamina System later on. This game is heavily geared towards casual mobile players who log in once a day to finish their daily tasks. As this game is being advertised as a multi-platform game, this is extremely disappointing. This game at its core is more reminiscent of a mobile game with a terrible and unrewarding gacha system.

    These are just a few of the many issues with Genshin Impact and miHoYo. I advise anyone who wants to try any game by miHoYo to play with caution.    … Expand

    Blatantly and shamelessly rips off Breath of the Wild's aesthetics and gameplay. The characters are bland and uninspired/pandering and the pay to win aspects are disgusting.

    Also it censors the words "Hong Kong" and "Taiwan". Which is awful.

However, there are quite a few problems with this game. First one being the lowest rates for 5* characters out of any Gacha game I have ever seen, 0.6% to be exact. Your chances of getting the character you actually want are absurdly low. There are content creators who have spent thousands and still haven't gotten the character they want. You need to pull 90 times to get a guaranteed pity and it's only guaranteed to be a 5* character if it's on a special rate up banner for characters, otherwise you could potentially get a weapon. You need around 14,400 primos just to land that pity which is more than $100 on their store. Pricing is very greedy and the rates are very stingy...but it doesn't stop there.

    In the beginning of the game you hardly notice the energy system or much less care because you're busy exploring, doing quests, and finding chests among other things. Once you've done all that and hit around Adventure Rank 30 character upgrades such as ascension, leveling, and even talent books start to become a real problem because you run out of either Mora (money or credits in the game you get in game), exp books, or materials really quickly. So how do you get more?

    Enter Resin. Probably one of if not the worst implementation of an energy system I have ever seen in any gacha type game. You have to use your pool of 120/120 energy (resin) to try and get a few of some of the materials/money you need for character progression. At this point of the game progression slows down tremendously. All activities that help with your progression are gated by this energy system and not in a good way. Costs to claim rewards from these activities such as leylines/domains/world bosses can range anywhere from 20-60 resin per activity even though some of them are already restricted by being available one time for a whole week, not to mention Resin regenerates at a snail's pace. About 16 hours for a full recharge.

    That being said you need lots to level up a character and make them strong but you are limited in how much you can do per day unless you spend primos (banner rolling currency-premium currency)/fragile resin/ or really money to get more primos to spend for only 60 resin. This isn't even taking into account weapons or artifact leveling which is also gated by Resin. Players have to make a choice each day about how they will spend their resin and as certain domains change what they give you each day based on a schedule it really make the player feel pressured from this energy system and not rewarded for using it except by not letting it go to waste.

    MiHoYo also has not said a publicy let alone addressed this issue in-game even though it is a pressing matter to change the resin system to a lot of players, MiHoYo stays silent and refuses to acknowledge this problem. If they don't make meaningful changes to this system, lots of players, including myself are going to drop this game one for better ones in the coming months.    … Expand

    - "Pay to win" is a misleading term. You can't really "win" in a gacha game. "Gacha" is about collecting rare heroes and exclusive items. But without spending literally thousands of dollars, your collection won't contain many desirable collectibles. The whole game is about trying to sell you lottery tickets for seemingly exclusive virtual items. As in all gacha games, gameplay and immersion are shallow and soulless when you've seen through the inital eye candy.

    - Combat has potential but doesn't evolve. After 2 hours you will perform the same fancy looking moves over and over again. Gameplay feels the same at lvl 1 as at lvl 60. Likewise, you will fight the same enemies at lvl 1 as at lvl 60, just with higher stats.

    - It tries to mimic an "epic adventure", but there's nothing to discover. All the good stuff is in loot boxes and will never be found elsewhere. There's literally thousands of treasure chests, all containing the same common items, with zero chance to get anything worthwile.

    - After the inital hours with lots of eye candy, progress grinds to a halt (at rank 23-25), content is gated behind huge amounts of grind and/or paying money to make the grind more bearable.

    - The "endgame" revolves around farming small amounts of premium currency and materials. Materials will unlock the full potential of your heroes. Premium currency lets you buy another lottery ticket. Sooner rather than later, gameplay becomes a tedious job you go through just to get another lottery ticket or to make your heroes slightly stronger.

    - There 's no real challenge, you will steamroll 98% of the content. The only challenge comes in form of time trials, in which you won't be able to defeat some monsters within the time limit, since your team's damage output isn't high enough. How to overcome the problem? You guessed it: grind for months on end and/or pay for lootboxes.

    - Immersion is constantly broken. Before you meet characters in the story, you might get them in loot boxes. So you might run around with the "Anemo God" Venti, a very rare character, while you try to locate him in a quest. It's a bit like "Back to the Future", but twisted.

    Game is not free to play friendly at all. Free characters are horrible to play with, game is fun for the first few days when you start, then slowly goes downhill and endgame is absolutely non-existent.

    Game is initially fun. But after a few hours you realize that the level of challenge is really really low. When you get to Adventure Rank 16-18, the game grinds to a halt. You finally got multiplayer coop! Yay! But it sucks because there is no challenge. Fun for kids but anyone above 5 years old will see through this game for what it is, a distraction to force engagement. But why engageGame is initially fun. But after a few hours you realize that the level of challenge is really really low. When you get to Adventure Rank 16-18, the game grinds to a halt. You finally got multiplayer coop! Yay!     Adressing the pay to win aspect: 5 Star heroes do a lot more damage and cary you over the game quite easily. They feel unbalanced and make the game boring.

    All in all a grind that does not feel good, a technical disaster and a money grab. And we didnt adress the topic, that the game looks like a rip of breath of the wild. Really not worth playing.

    Now with the update 1.2 i thought about reworking my review, but the new game features and the new part of the map are even worse, than what was there before. Still a bad game, which lost even more fun with the newest update, still a money-grab, still not worth to be played.    … Expand

    -Lack of good multiplayer
    -You need to drop a couple of days into playing the game before you even unlock any multiplayer
    -Basically forget playing with friends in any real capacity outside of **** around for no reason given many many limitation put on multiplayer (you can only join worlds of others that are X level, you dont share many types of loot you can find around the hosts world at all, you cant go through the story together with someone and so on...)

    -Gacha
    -Relatively generous gifts during launch week
    -Very very low droprates (if you're f2p forget max tier troops ever dropping)
    -No guarantee system which you can use to buy any troop/weapon you want after pulling X amount of times meaning you might play for months and months if not years never getting what you actually wanted (it doesnt need to be too easy to earn that, it can take a month of two of play for example, look at the mileage system in Guardian Tales)

    TL:DR
    The game basically plays like your average MMORPG except you grind endlessly towards a character/weapon that you no only didnt design but may not even like/want (welcome to gacha). Another problem to the empty feeling world that the MMO wouldnt have is the actual multiplayer aspect of it, here you just follow the generic chosen one trope main questline totally alone in that big world making the game pretty pointless to anyone who doesnt want to play it purely for its initial world exploration and gameplay. But again given that 70% of gameplay is running for 4 seconds before your stamina depleats > walk until it fills up > repeat, 20% of gameplay is navigating game menus and the rest of that, 10% or less is actual combat which is not that bad but nothing too incredible either.

    Check out gameplay/characters/world online, if you like any of it then try the game out given that its free and fun at the start, enjoy while it lasts and uninstall if/when it gets boring.    … Expand

    good:
    * Looks nice but that's a given since it's a clone of a good looking game
    * Element reactions are fun
    * Exploring has it's moments

    Bad:

    * lack of main story content

    * often, poor subtitles don't match what the characters are saying

    * cringe dialogue that is neither engaging or smart, really just grown people acting and sounding like children

    * MC is thousands of years old, was a powerhouse (loses his powers ala Samus) and yet acts and looks like a teenager without the street savviness you'd expect from someone that is thousands of years old

    * Everything is a grind-fest. Weapon? Grind materials, mora (in-game gold) and experience items. characters? skills? level up? food items? weapon refining? EVERYTHING is a soul-sucking grind-fest
    of multiple materials locked behind chambers only open certain IRL days of the week and costs insane amounts of mora so you'll constantly be grinding with minor returns. or you could grease the gears a little bit (or a lot) with some cold hard cash *nudge*nudge*.

    * co-op is a mess, want to play with just one friend? TOO BAD! we are sticking you with random people whether or not you like it! We'll also randomly drop people in mid-match for cannon fodder.

    * Low summon (aka gambling) rates. Ironically, the rates are so bad to get some animated boobs most weebs would probably have better luck IRL.

    * can someone explain why I need flowers to ascend a character to a new level? Do they eat the damn flowers?! None of this crap makes any sense. They didn't even try. You don't have 1000 masks of the many slain Hilichurls (which they have lowered rates on after all pre-mature ejaculation from weebs)? Too bad, now you can't be stronger.

    * The main point of the game (unfortunately) and the worst: boobs look like jello unmitigated by gravity so just standing still they are flying all over the place S E P A R A T E L Y. Again, cringe community proud of their pathetic cringe so don't bother trying to discuss this with anyone who identifies as Otaku or weeb. Imagine if they incorporated these unrealistic physics on a guys crotch. You'll have their two balls flying around just standing still. Hilarious...until the weeb community gets involved and does their cringe crap.

    * Otaku community. If you aren't one of them, you'll have a bad time interacting with the community. Every other sentence is blatant predatory and cringe. You'll never meet a group of more pathetic people proud of being sexual predators. What's worse, majority of characters are at least modeled after to be/act/look like teenagers or children to up the creep meter.

    * game gets a free pass to be **** because it's f2p and the target demographic (pathetic teens with no money and pathetic man-babies with no friends) eat this anime loli **** up.

    * main story quests are locked behind Adventure Rank (levels). there are only two main story arcs. the second one is an annoying long fetch quest. go here get this, bring this there, ad nauseam. The rest is just terrible filler junk that will have you roaming around looking for materials and treasure chests until you've lost your grip on reality and fun.

    * every sidequests is some pathetic sob story: "my daddy's gone I miss him...can you deliver this one flower to him thousands of miles away for 200 mora?"

    * Paimon

    * Limited interaction with the random people you find in the world. Just some basic dialogue usually.

    * Other thoughts: I wish there was more enemies vs enemies situations. It pretty much seems the entire world is out to get you. There are times you will fight treasure hoarders, Fatui and whopper flower all at once. Somehow, there is a secret pact that if they see you in the world they will team up to **** your **** up. Also, NPC friendlies don't react to their environment and are unaffected by enemies around them.

    all in all: it's everything you'd expect from a gacha, crappy rates, poor storytelling, all in a attempt to sell you some animated boobs. This game is the definition of the ongoing battle between the West vs East of gaming. This type of gaming is popular in Asian countries where "fun" is often times synonymous with "grind-fest" and misinterpreted as "rewarding". There's enough articles out there that go into depth about the split of the gaming community but you'll quickly see the fans of this title will be, by and large, Asian. Youtubers don't count as they are just following the money and are often paid advertisements promoting the **** out of this terrible game.    … Expand

    Rather than a typical online game, Genshin Impact resembles a traditional single-player jRPG with a real-time combat. For a free-to-play title it is very impressive, but turns out to be pretty derivative and quickly slumps into monotony. [13/2020, p.52]

    Oh, the joy of exploring this beautiful world. Oh, the clever combat, the great voice acting, the compelling story. This is one of the best RPGs of the year. And it’s almost beyond comprehension that you can get it for free.

    Overall, in spite of things that should bring Genshin Impact down, the game is so much fun to play that the negatives are ultimately minor gripes. [...] The gameplay is smooth and simplistic, and it works great on all platforms - though I’m still not sure why the PlayStation version can’t be linked to a Mihoyo account so I could play on my phone when I’m not at home (PS Vita version please??) but it’s a small gripe to an otherwise terrific game.
