The Roll7 team have achieved an original greatness with Rollerdrome across the board: original concept, 80s nostalgia music and art—augmented with super fluid mechanics and gameplay.

One of the best to ever do it. Rollerdrome is an action showstopper.

Rollerdrome is developer Roll7’s second success of 2022. By blending together skating and shooting gameplay, it manages to deliver an experience that we’ve all dreamed of but thought impossible. The game’s action becomes funner and cooler as you improve, which makes it hard to put down. A new classic in this genre for sure.

Rollerdrome is visually wonderful. Comic book-styled cel-shaded art paired with punchy vibrant colours. Everything from the character art to the environments and enemies on the course is superb. You can’t help but feel slightly uneasy, however. While everything is bright and fun the underlying story is one that is intrinsically dark and dystopian in nature. Sadly, you never get enough of the story (it’s just not that kind of game) and I would love it if this world could be fleshed out in some way.

Rollerdrome is beautiful to watch and satisfying to play. I would easily consider it to be an encapsulation of what makes games special. It has gameplay that is challenging but rewarding. There is an adequate level of assists to turn on for those not looking to be beaten down too much. And there's a level of replayability that can satisfy the perfectionists and score hunters. If it came packed with a story that took a few more chances it could have reached a near-perfect state. I'm still left feeling that this will lead to further adaptations of the action sports formula, but at the very least it's a game that knows what it wants to be and delivers exactly that.

A Sublime mix of movement and combat that somehow manages unrelenting action with skillful play, all while looking effortlessly brilliant. You need to get your skates on and try your luck in Rollerdrome.

Rollerdrome is fantastic. It’s easily one of the coolest games I’ve played all year. Although there are a few missed opportunities here and there, the gameplay is continuously creative, the story alluring, and there’s never a dull moment.

Although it may be short, its masterful movement and shooting are a shotgun blast to the face - and I mean that in the best way possible.

It’s an incredible sport and action game, with fun lore pieces to ponder while you’re not catching air, grinding lips and shotgunning opponents. To put it simply, don’t miss out on Rollerdrome.

I haven’t played such a good arcade game in a long time. Rollerdrome is a great blend of genres with both the shooting and the roller-skating aspects realized very well. Its art style might not be everyone’s cup of tea and the lack of a multiplayer mode is a pity, but you should definitely consider checking Rollerdrome out, especially if you’re a fan of Tony Hawk games.

Rollerdrome's blend of roller skating gameplay and shooting is as unique as expertly created. Thanks to a simple and effective control scheme you would feel as if you are in a cinematic blend between Matrix and Rollerball.

The design of the game may seem strange at first glance, but it's ultimately a refreshing idea and makes the game original and worthwhile.

Rollerdrome is an experience deeply focused on its action. With no tricks to unlock, no passive abilities, a story that we can ignore, we are placed directly in the heart of the action. Rollerdrome knows precisely what it wants to offer players and doesn't waste a single second in getting them into the arena. The action is glorious, incredibly stylish, and tremendously addictive. Though short, countless hours of gameplay are assured in the pursuit for the highest score.

Rollerdrome is exciting and fresh, where roller skating and gun shooting come together in perfect harmony to create a special and satisfying gameplay loop.

Rollerdrome effortlessly combines thrilling speed and adrenaline-inducing combat to create an exciting mashup of genres that will appeal to sports and action fans alike. The surface-level story, needy challenges and lack of environmental variety hinders the game from becoming something special, but in the heat of the moment, Roll7’s latest creation makes it nearly impossible to not pull off epic bits of slow-motion, high-flying carnage that will leave you wanting more. By rewarding players for taking advantage of enemy weaknesses and performing last-second dodges, Rollerdrome creates a satisfying and engaging gameplay experience that will have you returning to the arena for one more round again and again.

Rollerdrome is a small product and the low price does not fully justify the speed with which you can reach the credits. Despite being designed to be replayed several times, the Roll7 title does not have the necessary prerequisites to encourage users to spend a lot of time in the available levels or thanks to the endgame mode. That said, we are talking about a splendid pastime with a very effective core gameplay, capable of driving crazy even those who are not used to approaching experiences of this type.

In a "been there done that" industry, Rollerdrome sounds fresh. It gives the player a new and dynamic experience offered in a beautiful comic envelope.

Rollerdrome is undeniably one of the must-watch indie games of the summer for its great feel, satisfying punching shots, and vibrant 80s soundtrack. And if the beauty of the tricks is secondary, their usefulness during a hyper-paced performance constitutes a clever balance and very well balanced in terms of gameplay.

Rollerdrome is a blast to play, especially as you get the hang of each of its systems and really start to hit the "flow" state Roll7 is trying to achieve. Revisiting old matches and wiping the floor with house players for 20- or 30-times multipliers is extremely satisfying, and doing backflips over enemies while you blast them with a shotgun always looks and feels incredibly cool. Occasionally, aspects of Rollerdrome can be a little too simple for their own good, but overall, the game is a brilliant melding of systems that don't seem like they should work together, but in practice, combines excellent elements of skaters and shooters to elevate both.

With easy-to-grasp (but tricky to master) extreme sports, over-the-top arena combat, and a sublime audio-visual aesthetic, Rollerdrome deserves its place in the pantheon of 70s sci-fi sports fiction.

My time with Rollerdrome was likely filled with more failed runs than successful ones, with long periods of exasperation after failing increasingly difficult stages, multiple times. But when everything clicks, and you’re in the zone – pulling off those perfectly timed shots and dodges, racking up enormous combos, performing ridiculous tricks, narrowly avoiding rockets, and nailing enemies straight between the eyes from 50 yards away to find victory – it’s so incredibly invigorating. Rollerdrome deals in style and hard-fought satisfaction, and getting Kara to the top is well worth the effort.

Rollerdrome is a ton of fun and is undoubtably worth the asking price at launch. To see Roll7 go from developing the more simplistic OlliOlli games to producing something on this level is amazing. The engaging mechanics and stunning visuals come together to create something truly special. It is just a real shame that there is no multiplayer functionality currently present in the game.

Rollerdrome’s moment-to-moment action is tight and feels fluid - so far so Roll 7 - but it feels like a real step up for the studio in the way that Rollerdrome has presented itself both in terms of the game’s world building and visual identity, but also the UI and story underpinning everything: Rollerdrome is dense and compact, like a diamond.

Rollerdrome mixes rollerblading with 3rd person shooting in a unique art style, making it quite enjoyable. But the repetitive gameplay and high level of difficulty are somewhat disappointing.

In Rollerdrome we find the perfect combination of high-octane combat and fluid action to give way to an action experience like no other. The developer Roll7 offers a very fun extreme sport title on roller skates which has managed to exceed all expectations.

In what is effectively Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater meets The Running Man in a war of attrition, full of guns and vibrant colour, Rollerdrome is a well-crafted arena combat-survival game set atop jam skates. Though as solid as the core loop is, the game is let down by a narrative that fails to measure up to the game’s pulsating setting as well as a disappointingly sparse range of arenas that you’ll see far too often.

Rollerdrome isn’t going to be for everyone. If you’ve got better reflexes than I and find things to be less of a challenge than I did, you can test your meddle against other real-world players thanks to online leaderboards in addition to an unlockable “Out for Blood” mode that amps up the difficulty (no thanks). If that excites you, then you certainly shouldn’t hesitate.

Despite its limitations, Roll7 should be lauded for putting out such an interesting idea. Rollerdrome feels like a seed that can flourish into something greater. Extreme sports games with this kind of gimmick don't come along often and it's worth strapping on some skates to experience.

Rollerdrome plays as fluidly as the action looks. Like a murderous ballerina on roller skates, methodologically blast your enemies into the afterlife. The high difficulty level keeps the action challenging, while never having to compromise on style. Rollerdrome makes killing graceful, but would have benefited from a little more variety, and not just in the arenas themselves. Apart from the popping, the game is actually just a bit too bare.

Rollerdrome is a roller coaster that goes uphill so that the tracks end just as you are about to go down it. It is one of those games that accompanies you through an incredible learning process. And just when you're ready for the best; just when you're ready to let yourself be hugged by it... it ends up leaving you wanting more.

Rollerdrome is about getting lost in a giddy gameplay trance. As the hypnotic electro pulsed with each turn of the half-pipe and slow-mo bullets tapered out of a well-timed flip, I was grinning like a goon. Yet where OlliOlli World offered a bountiful buffet of levels to grind across, Rollerdrome’s stingy stage selection left me hungry. Much like a lockdown fad, Rollerdrome offers a thrilling way to pass an afternoon or few, but once you’ve got your kicks, only the dedicated will still be donning their skates.

This is a very fun and stylish game, I was completely sucked into the world of the sport!
I didn't pay much attention to the story the first time round, I was just focused on getting to the action quickly, but then I went back and read everything and it was really cool putting the story together.
You get into a real rhythm while playing, and feels like a badass.

    PRO:
    - That soundtrack is brilliant
    - Unique graphics
    - Neat gameplay, not too complicated to understand
    - Plenty of challenge in later levels
    - Single player so no hackers or screaming kids

    CON:
    - Not long enough (but to be fair it was a lower price game, but would be good to have more story and levels / gameplay modes)
