Bossa Studios took the mayhem of the first game and enhanced it ten-fold. Surgeon Simulator 2 is a blast to play, and even better enjoyed with friends. The unique gameplay, combined with unforgettable co-op experiences and a wholly polished title, makes this game a worthwhile purchase.

Enjoyed hacking a way at poor, helpless souls in the first game? Then check in and see how the evolution fairs in the sequel.

Retaining what made the first game unique, whilst making it a much more rounded experience that you’ll be more likely to revisit, Surgeon Simulator 2 is a good single-player experience that becomes pretty special in online co-op. Gather some mates and it’s one of the most fun multiplayer experiences of the year.

If something stupid and wacky is what your’e looking for, Surgeon Simulator 2 is your game! Don’t expect any real simulation gameplay, also don’t expect working controls, long-term motivation or complexity, and you’ll have a lot of fun.

To their credit, in the sequel Bossa Studios managed to break new ground. Previously, you were basically chained to the operating table. Now you can explore the entirety of operating theater and beyond! [Issue#248, p.65]

Unfortunately, Bossa Studios lost sight of what made the first Surgeon Simulator brilliant, transforming this direct sequel into a puzzle game ill-suited not only to the deliberately inaccurate control system, but also to the overall tone of the experience.

Despite those bugs, the majority of my definitely-real medical training in Surgeon Simulator 2 was a load of fun. When the surgery clicks and everything is working as intended – or you’re thriving in the limb-strewn chaos of near-death – it’s a mix of being intensely satisfying and outright hilarious. Though the gimmicky nature of movement – while obviously the core of the game – can get old alongside the slightly repetitive levels, overall Surgeon Simulator 2 is worth playing with pals. Just remember – if at first you don’t succeed, there’s always another Bob (and another rubber duck) to try again with.

Great way to expand the formula of the original and bring multiplayer into the mix, really fun gameplay to experience with a bunch of friends.

You've probably seen loads of streamers playing it and it really is the ideal thing to dive into with friends to muck around. The creation mode isn't my cup of tea but I reckon that anyone who likes building stuff in Minecraft or even Dreams will find it a load of fun. For me the joy really is in playing the levels these people make with friends. Expand

The premise of the game is great but the execution is less impressive. The solo game is fairly dreary and thankfully very short, but the multiplayer is where the potential goes to waste. It feels like the kind of game that would have suited couch co-op and as a PC online expert that fun from the chaos quickly turns into frustration as other players mess around, cause levels to fail or generally just tend to spoil the feeling of actual cooperation.

There is a level creator in the game too that I've played around with but honestly it feels like making more levels that basically all inherited the flaws of the main game is a somewhat silly idea. There have been one or two really good levels in the player made catalog, but the majority are pure garbage which highlights the games sad flaws. If UGC is your thing there are already much better tools and games out there.

As a final thought, I think the games matchmaking is either broken or the game isn't selling as I rarely seem to get matched with anyone. Though given the crap chute that is the multiplayer maybe this is for the best.

Gamespot's review of this game has been my experience. It's funny for about 5 minutes and then the frustration kicks in. From simply tryingGamespot's review of this game has been my experience. It's funny for about 5 minutes and then the frustration kicks in. From simply trying to get the saw to work correctly and watching it glitch around when trying to cut off a body part, then it gets randomly stuck on an organ, to trying to load the patient and it takes forever for NO REASON to load the patient. You can attach a limb to watch it detach itself. Sometimes you're performing the surgery and a limb will fly off or even the patients head will fall off but you weren't near that limb or his head. Sometimes you're simply trying to stop blood loss but the needle won't connect for some random reason.

It's simply poorly designed and too glitchy. Other people might like it, that's fine, but I hate it. It just isn't fun.
