Rarely exciting, mostly disappointing. An unfinished tactical shooter let down by technical issues and terrible AI.

Takedown: Red Sabre is a wasted opportunity, a game with many problems of gameplay, a terrific AI and a poor technical realization.

There’s nothing natural about AI that faces the wrong way in combat, or a shooter who doesn’t know what gear he brought into combat, or squad members who can’t communicate. When shooting for authenticity, a half step is not enough.

Takedown: Red Sabre sums up the fears of every Kickstarter backer: that in the end they’ll have paid up front for something that doesn’t turn out very good. With clumsy presentation and wildly uneven difficulty, the game fails to be a competent FPS, much less a tactical one. The best advice I can give is to avoid it, which is little solace for those who backed it in the first place.

Whether a future patch will rectify a lot of problems with Takedown: Red Sabre or not is irrelevant; Serellan should not have released a game this unfinished in the first place. The core of the game could be good, but not until a number of issues have been resolved.

Takedown: Red Sabre was supposed to be an eloquent love letter to the tactical shooter genre, but the final product ends up reading more like hate mail. There isn’t a single part of the game that rises above mediocrity, and much of it dips below that mark. Worst of all, the very fans who have been craving a new game like Takedown are the ones who will be disappointed by it the most.

Please, don't get fooled by Serellan's proclamations and don't fall in the trap. Takedown: Red Sabre is a terrible first person shooter, ugly to watch and painful to play. You won't get any fun from it, even if you insist on fighting against its flaws. Stay away from it.

A game that its own bots would probably refuse to play it.

Financial issues killed an old-school promising shooter in its own cradle.

With boring level design, horrid AI and lousy visuals, Takedown: Red Sabre is a horrible game.

Clunky UI, appalling gameplay, broken and buggy mechanics mean Takedown: Red Sabre should be avoided at all cost.

Takedown: Red Sabre is a Kickstarter failure. How anyone could have used the gamers' money to create such a bad game (ugly, stupid, without tactical options and with boring maps), is beyond me. The game has one important good point - it uninstalls really quickly. It takes just a few seconds to delete this nightmare. My advice is this: stay away.

An unfinished, broken mess of a tactical shooter that offers not even one redemptive bright spot.

The features that aren't missing are bugged beyond use. Takedown is a bare-bones wreck in need of substantial patching. [Holiday 2013, p.56]

Movement is not smooth, aiming is off center, and it's just not fun.

Single player is as bad or worse. I've been "Disconnected from host" in a single player game. The AI is lower than poor: check out this video http://steamcommunity.com/app/236510/discussions/0/846965056730355838/

Yes, if the AI sees you and you duck out of sight they will forget you are there. You can then lean around the corner and shoot the wall beside their head and they do nothing. They do not react to noise so even if you empty a clip in the next room they won't react, they just wait for you to come in and hopefully stand still so they can shoot you.

Every door in open at the start of a mission.. all of them, wide open. This looks like an early release or early beta phase game, and should not be released in this state.

The developer has released an alpha product and is selling it as a finished game. It most certainly is not. AVOID THIS GAME. Full Review »

This game has far too many bugs in it's initial release to make it worth paying for in any way.

The graphics are mediocre at best. They are comparable to an early release game for the 360, and there is a strange draw-in with all the objects in the level as you move around them. I would love to change some of the specific graphic settings to see if that changes anything but all it allows you to change is between 'low' 'medium' and 'high' with no description of what they actually do behind the scenes.

The enemy AI difficulty seems to swing wildly between super-human and dumb as a rock. Sometimes they will be alerted to your presence from 2 floors down after you've taken a step and proceed to swarm you, and other times you can stand a couple yards away from a target and empty an entire magazine in the to wall they are standing next to with no reaction at all. It also appears that they spawn in randomly but there isn't any sort of buffer between your spawn and theirs, which has lead to a couple times where I would start the match and be killed instantly as soon as I finish loading in. Another odd occurrence I've experienced is enemy targets that are invincible but also don't seem to do anything other than yell at you; I believe it may have been caused by them spawning in to a piece of furniture but when I went to investigate further I lost connection to the host, which was me, in a single player game.

The multiplayer hardly ever works in any way, shape or form and when it does you have to cross your fingers that you don't error out.

TL;DR: Don't buy this game, take your money and instead spend it on Rainbow 6, SWAT or any other game that actually works.
