  1. It will mostly appeal to hardcore fans of snowboarding and those who enjoyed the first version...it is the most realistic snowboarding game currently available for the PS2.
  2. A veritable avalanche of gameplay options.
  3. Practically an RPG in and of itself, I liked how unique and replayable [the snowboarder mode] was.

Graphically, Winter X is sufficient, but the gameplay is just pretty blah. [Mar 2002, p.79]
  5. While Konami has toned down the simulation elements of Winter X-Games Snowboarding 2002 so that it will appeal to a broader audience, the challenging controls and plodding snowboarder mode will turn off all but the most ardent snowboarders.

Is this what real snowboarding is like? Because if it is, I don't want any part of it. [Feb 2002, p.106]
  7. No matter what type of game you are looking for, the control takes some getting used to.

It was a masterpiece ahead of its time. An innovator that led to new modes that helped us break out of the '90s with a create your pro and career mode that even features a health bar and injuries that can break your career making you want to play for real.

Game Informer would later come back and add this game to its special issue listing the TOP 200 Games of all time. ALL TIME.

This game has a very cool atmosphere and the vibe is spot on. The devs really created a vibe that soaks you up. The music, the beautiful graphics that somehow hold up today (compare that to other games that released in 2002), and all the UI/Interface flow with the menu sounds nail a solid 10./10 on the vibe check for me which pushes it past an overall 9/10 to a perfect score.

Ten out of Ten get this on an emulator and crack open a cold one with the boys or you don't deserve to call yourself a gamer.

I like the graphics, I like the game play. It just seems to me that if your not a grind freak your sort of left out in the cold. No pun attendend.
