So games like Street Fighter 4 and Tekken Tag are garnering all of the attention from hardcore gamers. People often overlook Dead or Alive because of the fan service and its past of creating not so good fighting games. Dead or Alive 5 still has its fan service, but underneath all of that lies a deep, balanced and fun fighter. The game seemed to have addressed all of the issues from older series, the game is much less mashy and more about out thinking and outplaying your opponent. The game plays much like Virtua Fighters little brother. The key differences between DOA and VF are the universal hold system(where you can counter a limb if you predict WHICH one they're going to use, where in Virtua Fighter this is character specific) and the stun game(rather than pushing for plus frames to mix up your opponent further, you push for large stuns to mix up your opponent further). The characters are fairly balanced, any character can deal with any situation from universal options making this more of a game that you have to out think and out play rather than relying on tiers and counter picking. While the game does have a few small flaws(the comeback mechanic which is very situational, stages that are too long which take away from the pace of the game and long winded animations that make the game feel less interactive for a few seconds) this is a really solid buy. Check it out and give it an honest try before listening to your buddies who obsess with the mess that's Street Fighter 4 and claim that this isn't a good game. You'll be honestly surprised at how deep, fun, balanced and complex of a fighter this is! Expand

ninja and techmo deliver what the true fans want. Nuff said. Easy buy if your a DOA fan (one of the best fighting series of all time) They did what I wanted. Added Ein and Leon, added more costumes, stages, modes, features. It feels like a "solid 60 bucks" now!

DOA 5: Ultimate is a Must buy for DOA diehard fans but if you stopped playing 5 several months ago then you'll be wasting your time with Ultimate. I love being able to go back and watch the videos from story mode, I like the new outfits that are unlockable and I just love DOA (the entire series) so I may be partially biased. The fighting feels slightly smoother to me, I haven't had an issues online although I've only done a few battles so far and the graphics are gorgeous (I can't see any improvement over 5 though). The new tutorial and training is great for newbies and the music options are a nice touch. Overall this is the definitive version of DOA 5 but its not gonna win you over if you hated the first game last year. I highly recommend it for fans of the series. I'd also like to add this tidbit: If you have the free DOA 5 Ultimate: Core fighters game and your planning to upgrade to the full version, don't waste your money on any of the DLC until after you upgrade because most of the "core fighters" DLC is included in the premium upgrade and you'll end up paying for something you already have. 1st of all let me get this out. i worship the doa series, since doa1 as a teen, and now as an adult i still love the game.

extras like movie theater is great and provides the fan service the game is known for, but i really wished they had included a BOSS fight in the arcade mode, as well as an ending of sorts for each characters. speaking of ending, the storyline remains unchanged as far as i know, and this is a bummer for newcomers like rachel(my fav) doesn't play a role in them.

saves do carry over from doa5 so your unlockables remain, at least thats a nice touch. but sadly this should have been just a 15usd dlc instead of a re-release. as of this time i am writing this, there is an announcement for doa5 ultimate in the arcades with 1 extra character, so this console version might not be the 'ultimate' one after all.

i scored it 8/10, because i love the series. if you don't own doa5, this is a great value fighting game. i bought the CE too, because i believe one day team ninja will give us doax3. cheers.

Dead or Alive has always been one of my favorite fighting games and believe it or not the fan service it provides is NOT the only reason! You won't find a game with better visuals on PS3/Xbox 360 and that's a fact. Gameplay remains fast paced and easy to get involved and if you want to go deeper it certainly provides.Modes, characters and costumes are A plenty giving the game a strong time appeal. Having that said i'd really wish Team Ninja would make those costume DLC either cheaper to get or stop doing them all together. FInally i would like to comment on something people tend to ignore as it's a gold standard in the ignored factors that make a fighting game: Story! I belong to those few gamers that LOVE watching a story unfold on Fighting games and i do believe that , if not a major drive, it should always be on the highest priorities. Well this game manages to do that splendidly! I really liked the story mode and can't wait to see what happens on DOA 6. All in all this is a gem in the Fighting genre and i can easily and without any qualms say, that this was the BEST fighting Game of the past year! Can't wait for next installment ! Expand

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate put your favorite boob physics into a fighting a game,
there is an awesomely varied 29 character roster, each having 4 to 12 unlockable costumes,
24 different arenas with different levels and layers to them as well interactive objects,
your standard, vs mode, a tag mode, survival, arcade, online mode which works amazingly well when you can find an opponent, which isn’t too rare, but rare enough to be noticed..
Create your own lobbies, have people drop into your single player matches if you have the option on
as well as a story mode and a surprisingly deep training modes to help you become the very best like no one ever was.
Unfortunately, at least for my personal taste, this fighting game is more about combos than it is cool moves...
This is no mortal kombat, tekken, or dragon ball z…
this is all about pulling off combos…
juggling your opponent... which can make the fighting seem fairly repetitive and basic..
You essentially have a mid-high and low variation of a kick, block, and punch for each character...
and you take these 9 variants and turn them into combos…
Which sadly takes any spectacle out of the fighting…
Even with the intractable stages... there are just no jump out of your seat moments…
    Thankfully each character feels different...
They all have their own martial arts style, and as a martial artist myself, it was quite satisfying pulling off strikes and grappling moves I was familiar with…
This satisfaction due to familiarity made of for the pretty lifeless fights…
But what isn’t lifeless is this games story mode...
It’s all about the 5th Dead or alive tournament... at least I think… but then it’s about a clone... and people from the tournament for some reason get involved...
    it’s all over the place..
I have no idea what went on in the story, but it was crazy and I enjoyed it...
As you play through this impressively hefty 3 hour long story mode, you get introduced to dozens of characters…
This was my first dead or alive game, and I feel like the story mode did a perfect job of introducing these unfamiliar characters to me…
The delivery of the story though, not so much…
While I did find Dead or Alive Ultimate fairly basic...
It’s full of content for fighting fans to sink their fists into.
I give Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate
    a 7.5/10

The story mode has a very cheesy plot, and feels like a terrible action movie. Considering that normally no one plays fighting games looking for a decent plot, it's only a minor negative.

Solid Dead or Alive game! The DOA series is my favorite fighting game franchise with 2 ultimate being my favorite on the Xbox. Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is a great game and looks great. Very fun and has a lot of characters added. It’s only missing 2 from last round, but is essentially the same game. Great fun game!

That's not to say it's a bad game, but those who own DOA5 may not get a whole lot more out of this title. At the same time, it's a great deal for those who didn't play DOA5 or are new to the series.

Make no mistake: Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is still a very strong fighting game. The offline game modes are excellent, and the mode and roster additions are very welcome, especially since they don't seem to upset the balance of the game.

A high quality re-package that gives series newcomers the best bang for their buck while remaining lots of fun for competitive and casual gamers alike. Still, the Ultimate edition perks aren't substantial incentive for current Dead or Alive 5 owners.
