Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War brings the Black Ops subseries back to its roots, delivering an explosive campaign, fast-paced multiplayer, and a compelling Zombies experience.
  2. Nov 12, 2020
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War doesn’t innovate in any big way. It merely gives Call of Duty fans more of what they have been accustomed to playing year after year. At the same time, Cold War is truly an enjoyable experience delivering over 100gigs of content that’ll get ongoing support and free content long after this review is posted. In short, better days ahead. Cold War will once again be considered the must-have shooter this holiday season. Deservedly so. Just don’t expect anything incredibly groundbreaking.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War isn't the rushed placeholder that many feared it would be, and it might just turn out to be one of the more enjoyable Black Ops games when all is said and done.
  4. Nov 19, 2020
Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War is exactly what you expect it to be, but there is a massive amount of content on offer here and it's still impressive. Maybe the magic is starting to slip now, but if you've not picked up a Call of Duty recently then grab this one, there's still some fun to be had.
  5. Nov 19, 2020
From its shadowy story campaign to its frantic multiplayer action, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War offers the thrilling and magnetic gameplay expected of the series, shined up with solid character models, impressive vistas, and sharp visual effects. While there's undeniably room for improvement regarding innovation, Black Ops Cold War gets Call of Duty's third generation off to a strong start.
  6. Nov 19, 2020
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's campaign is tight, slick, and lots of fun, it almost avoids getting totally bogged down with militaristic mumbo jumbo, thanks to a barmy plot, and fun, albeit cliched characters, and most importantly, genuinely creative and impressive gameplay mechanics, that don't involve shooting. Sure it's as short as ever, but given it's one part of the package that includes zombies and multiplayer, it's easily the best Call of Duty story for many years, and perhaps one of the best shoot-em-up campaigns, too.

It all adds up to a mesmerisingly unpleasant atmosphere that somewhat offsets the gun-ho nihilism of the plot. [Issue#353, p.112]
  8. Nov 16, 2020
Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is a successful return to the origins for the series. Treyarch builds on the roots of the famous military FPS to make it accessible and super fun once again. Too bad that Activision hasn't adopted the same cross-gen distribution policy as other publishers: be careful if you are going to buy a next-gen console.
  9. Nov 12, 2020
Although solid and convincing overall, the technical sector shows a few more flaws than that of the last Call of Duty, while the promise of virtuous and free post-launch support for all bodes well for the near future of the title.
  10. Nov 16, 2020
Call of Duty Black Ops is not the hottest episode in the series. It feels a bit rushed, as its campaign is too short and doesn't rely enough on its fresh ideas. Multiplayer doesn't offer enough maps and we can question weapons balance and netcode. Zombie Mode is probably the most satisfying thing, but we have to be patient, as new content is on its way.
  11. Dec 16, 2020
While Cold War is a part of a series I would have said that I loved, I can’t fully embrace it now knowing that this work is trucking in harmful stereotypes via patriotic-tinged gameplay. A decent CoD multiplayer experience will likely emerge from the currently-underwhelming Cold War, but I’m going to seriously consider whether that gameplay is worth enduring (and supporting) the rest.
  12. Nov 17, 2020
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War lends itself as a bombastic, yet short-lived game. We can only hope that this project will be well-received by Activision higher-ups, and that Raven Software will finally make name for themselves.
  13. Nov 20, 2020
Probably the best Call of Duty game of the last decade. With a superb campaign, a great Zombies mode and a -mostly- balanced and rich multiplayer mode Cold War is a game no fan of the franchise should miss out.
  14. Nov 18, 2020
Cold War offers the best CoD campaign in years, but not everyone will like the multiplayer mode.
  15. Nov 17, 2020
The single player is entertaining and the Zombies mode is one of the best of its kind. Precisely the all-important multiplayer falls short. The mode is not yet complete and surprisingly unbalanced. There is work to be done for the developers.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is another solid entry in the Call of Duty franchise. Fantastic shooting, great visuals, a strong story – fans of the series will find a lot to love in the latest entry. Unfortunately, for anyone else, it’s just another Call of Duty game that relies entirely on the same old multiplayer and zombies to carry it through.
  17. Nov 13, 2020
Cold War adds some interesting new elements, but nothing stands out strongly enough on its own to make it a stand-out entry in the Call of Duty franchise. It does lay a solid foundation to build upon in the future, though, so let's see where this goes.

In multiplayer, Treyarch have gone back to their roots rather than trying to innovate, and clearly learned from previous titles, with signature maps and a simplified create-a-class system. The Zombies experience is definitely a lot more accessible, and maybe Treyarch are appealing to newer audiences more with the addition of the mini-map and indicators. But under the surface, the Dark Aether storyline is waiting for die-hard Zombie fans to unravel it, upon launch. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is an all-round excellent sequel to 2010's Black Ops. Although a little light on launch content in places, it definitely is a must-play title in the Black Ops universe.
  19. Nov 18, 2020
While the single player campaign has some interesting ideas, Black Ops Cold War is let down by anemic content offerings, a Zombies mode that is starting to show its age, inconsistent map design, and some odd regressions, all of which makes this an unfortunately easy recommendation to skip, at least at launch.

Black Ops has absolutely returned with a vengeance. The fast, frantic pace is still there, and the gunplay is still just as great as you remember it. While the campaign may be the weakest part of an overall phenomenal package, it’s still very satisfying and the espionage narrative packs a punch. The modes people are going to play the most, multiplayer and Zombies, are the strongest parts of Black Ops Cold War, and offer the best first person shooter gameplay in video games. PS4 and Xbox One players may be missing out on several improvements offered by the next-gen systems and PC, but it’s not enough to detract from an amazing experience. My appetite for Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is definitely growing, and like Duran Duran, “I’m hungry like the wolf”.

Whether you're buying Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War for the campaign, multiplayer, or Zombies, there's so much to enjoy, with great handling, cross-progression, and much more.

It's worth buying additional storage for Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War. Modern Warfare's campaign still lingers in my memories thanks to the sensational NV missions, but I'm sure Cold War has produced more memorable scenes. Multiplayer in the new CoD is good, but it's the campaign where it's at in this entry. As far as MP is concerned, I'll stick to the last one.
  23. Nov 15, 2020
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a shooter that you shouldn't miss. The excellent campaign and fun online modes guarantee hundreds of hours of entertainment and fun.
  24. Nov 13, 2020
Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is a nice addition to Treyarch’s series. The game brings back everything we love about the CIA’s black ops and the traditional unforgiving multiplayer experience. Zombie mode and Dead Ops top up an impressive content, but overall, we fell the lot is a bit conservative, and we would have loved to see more new stuff. Guess the COVID pandemic didn’t help.
  25. Nov 24, 2020
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War lives up to the series, with a brilliant campaign and content-packed multiplayer modes, yet the online experience is overshadowed by a handful of ugly menus, few initial operators, and bland cosmetic items.
  26. Nov 17, 2020
Not a standout year for Call Of Duty, as while the campaign offers some fun action and minor innovation Zombies and multiplayer are beginning to feel very tired.
  27. Nov 12, 2020
The new Call of Duty has enough content to make all the fans happy.

There’s a surprising number of changes, and most work. With an enjoyable campaign and a generous amount of online content, Cold War deserves a warm reception. [Issue#183, p.68]

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on PS4 is an ever-so-slightly worse looking version of the PS5 release, but with disappointing performance. If you can ignore those shortcomings, the same game with its summer blockbuster-style campaign and classic CoD multiplayer is still here.
  30. Nov 12, 2020
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is anything but a bad entry, with specially delightful gunplay, very streamlined integration with other modes and games and a great Zombies Mode. On the other hand, the game doesn’t really excel in anything, will definitely profit from the upcoming extra content and is mostly more of what we know and love.
  31. Nov 13, 2020
The newest Call of Duty delivers a fun adventure, filled to the brim with espionage and explosive action. It's very enjoyable - as Call of Duty always is - yet rather short. If we talk about the multiplayer, it feels very compact for now, a bit to compact with just a few modes and maps. But the maps are varied enough to entertain you for a while and Fireteam: Dirty Bomb is a fun addition. So, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a fine game, but that being said... it feels in a way like a little step back from Modern Warfare.
  32. Nov 25, 2020
After seeing the Cold War the hardcore fans will keep their preferences aiming towards the episodes developed by Infinity Ward. Although a fair effort, the latest Black Ops struggles to come out from the shadow of last year’s Modern Warfare and fails. On every level, it feels like a step back compared to the previous iterations. Moreover, the visuals are outdated, and some technical issues should have been fixed before launch. We expected more from Black Ops Cold War, but I am sure that Activision will rake in enough money from the players to have another Call of Duty next year.
  33. Nov 16, 2020
Mechanically, this is the Call of Duty game I’ve enjoyed the most since Modern Warfare 2, and the only game in the series where I’ve ever felt the need to finish the campaign more than once. It’s just a shame it’s a bit light on multiplayer maps, even if there’s no denying that, between the three modes, it’s still one of the best value video games you can buy. Enjoy, Bell.

Fans of the franchise and many gamers of a certain age, especially those who have a next-gen console in the hopper, will still find enough to like in Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War. I personally still replay the mission with the arcade shootout just to get a little '80s cheeseball energy going, but I think the strategy of overwhelming people with as much content and as many shooter modes as possible might be starting to wear thin. We're not there quite yet, but I'm hoping the next Black Ops might have just a bit more than poking at my childhood memories of a culturally iconic president.

This is just insultingly bad. This is a full on downgrade from Modern Warfare, an actually good Call of Duty title. This is just painful to play.

It isn't a campfest that allows you to camp in windows or high platform vantage points everywhere for free kills and that's why it's getting such low scores.
