Despite its flaws (#1 being forced subtitles, even during action sequences, no less) this may be my 2021 game of the year. Definitely not for everyone, and I'm glad I pushed through my initial frustration. Still thinking about this one...

Being forced to read subtitles while trying to navigate and control a game is not fun. Everything is a juggled mess. Gave up playing after about 45 min playtime. I payed full retail price not long after release day. Waste of money

The developer had no interest in even adding subtitles in languages other than English. 70% of the planet does not speak English, as they were interested in serving only 1/3 of the world's population, it is fair that the total rating of this game is only 1/3 of the maximum score.

Basic, boring, derivative and shoddy. I’m baffled by this game’s many failures.

Jett: The Far Shore depends on its illogical design choices. Unfortunately, that sucks all the fun out of an otherwise unique space adventure.

JETT: The Far Shore has an impressive world with well-crafted lore, an intriguing story and eye-catching visuals. Unfortunately, you actually have to play through the game to experience any of it, and that ends up being a slow, plodding mess in more ways than one. Maybe those with more patience will enjoy the trip more, but everyone else can rightfully skip JETT: The Far Shore and just remain grounded with better games instead.

And, because this is a video game, I'd best end on something that outlines why you should play JETT. How's this: if hands-holding AAA-proportioned adventure is your thing, leave this alone. If you always need a clear sense of direction, and you require resolution to every little thing by the time the credits roll, leave this alone. If you don't like distinctly stylised visuals and open worlds that would rather you were wiped out than set free to explore for treasures, leave this alone. If you like your games to be almost violently opposed to you having a good time, to offer you incredible wonders but then command them to kill you, play this. If you like your games to stir sensations wildly disconnected from power fantasies or comfy escapes, play this. If you like your games to simply be different to what you're used to, to deviate from expectations in real time, and to leave you in awe of their ideas and aspirations, just staring at the screen after it's all wrapped, play this.
