That sense of creative progression, coupled with the inherent danger of exploring underground caverns full of monsters, makes Minecraft exciting, rewarding, tense, and one of gaming’s most expressive creative outlets.

The Minecraft PlayStation 4 Edition is the penultimate version of this game on any console.

It’s the best console version of one of the most important games of the decade. Some limitations imposed by the platform might annoy hardcore Minecraft fans, but they are not the target group here. [13/2014, p.42]

It can't top what's on PC, but this is still a fine version of one of modern gaming's defining experiences. [Dec 2014, p.65]

Minecraft on PS4 and Xbox One finally gets the resolution 1080p and framerate with 60fps. You will miss the mods and contents of PC version, but this edition is perfect for playing in your living room with friends.

Even without the ability to install mods and play on infinite worlds propped up by dedicated servers, Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition is still a strong addition to your next-gen library.

Not as good as the PC version for obvious reasons. However, even at its most bare-bone, Minecraft is still a great experience.

The game's creative mode is the one I play mostly when I boot up the game. It's calming to building something, with the soothing soundtrack that supports it. Survival is also fun to play, but I only do so with friends, as the experience skyrockets during multiplayer. But this game is also a bit too simple, with making a new game being a bit dull and uneventful. It also doesn't help that the customisation is locked behind a paywall that makes Bethesda's Creation Club look generous. Skin packs, map packs you name it. For something that PCs get for free? Greed over need, for sure. And the fact that mods don't exist, a reason why the PC version is superior, brings it down a bit more. This game isn't bad, far from it, but contains a couple things that I don't really enjoy. Expand

But if I want to play cross-platform then it’s just as bad as Donald Dump himself. I’ve had to connect my account FOUR TIMES. Deleted Minecraft THREE TIMES and had to wait THREE HOURS for the update file EACH TIME just so my Microsoft account would connect again. The fact that I haven’t destroyed the disc yet is an obvious miracle. Waste of my time if I wanted to cross-platform play with friends Expand
