I absolutely love this expansion and considering that Monster Hunter World is one of my favorite games of this generation, it’s been great to have this excuse to revisit it. I look forward to playing more and more, and I’m excited to see what type of content updates Capcom rolls out in the future.
  2. Sep 5, 2019
If Monster Hunter: World was Capcom ambitiously reinventing Monster Hunter for a current-generation home console, then Iceborne has been them aggressively laying the groundwork for the series’ future, confident in the game that they have created. It’s rare that you see a company pour this much time and budget into a simple expansion, let alone a little more than a year and a half after a game’s release. Not only is Iceborne the largest expansion that the series has ever seen, it no longer remains a question if Monster Hunter: World is the best that the series has to offer. With Iceborne’s release, there’s simply no contest.
  3. Sep 4, 2019
You’ll not only be entertained by Monster Hunter World: Iceborne for hours, but you will be in awe of its complex systems, and how they align so well to create an unforgettable expansion to an already fantastic game.
  4. Sep 4, 2019
Iceborne is one of the very best examples of how to produce paid content for a AAA game. It fixes almost all of World's issues, and adds so much to the package. It doesn't feel like an expansion; it feels like a sequel. A fantastic experience.
  5. 100
It’s a brilliant expansion that is a must-play for anyone who’s a fan of the original game, and for anyone who hasn’t dipped their toes into what the series has to offer. I thought that Monster Hunter World was the best that the series was ever going to get, but Iceborne effortlessly proved me wrong, time and time again.
  6. 100
Iceborne retroactively enhances Monster Hunter: World while adding so much content that you could safely call it a sequel. It’s clear Capcom has perfected their winning formula.
  7. Sep 4, 2019
A monster-sized expansion that builds on and enhances Monster Hunter: World in every way, Iceborne is an essential upgrade for hunters craving new monsters, challenges, and gear.
  8. Sep 10, 2019
A truly great expansion that adds wonderful monsters, areas, gear and gameplay improvements to the base game. If you are even a little bit interested in the Monster Hunter franchise, you should buy Iceborne without a second thought.
  9. Sep 6, 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne offers a massive amount of new additions and exciting endgame content that should ensure fans will be returning to the game for years to come.
  10. Sep 4, 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne offers a new adventure with more monsters to hunt, new regions to explore, more movements and combat mechanics, a new difficulty rank, and ultimately, a whole mountain of contents to enjoy. A must-have expansion for any Monster Hunter World player.
  11. Sep 4, 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne adds just what Monster Hunter World needed and even more quality of life changes to the greatest Monster Hunter game of all time. The new monsters and quests pack a punch, and there’s enough content to justify the price. If you’re going to take on this cool expansion, make sure you bring along some friends and a few hot drinks.
  12. 94
Iceborne is more than just an expansion, improving in every way the already excellent gaming experience offered by a blockbuster like Monster Hunter World. Recommended for veterans and new players.
  13. Sep 4, 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne comes close to matching the perfection of the first adventures with the Fifth Fleet but this new expansion is all but guaranteed to lead to more times being carted back to camp.
  14. Sep 4, 2019
Between revisions and additions to the gameplay, improvements to the quality of life of the players, and a simply surprising amount of content, Iceborne inherits all the strengths of the base game and further amplifies its enjoyment, coming to rewrite the rules of a potentially endless endgame.
  15. Sep 5, 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne offers us a gigantic expansion, full of new content dedicated to the most veteran players of the saga and offering many playable novelties that expand the possibilities in this new frozen moorland.
  16. Sep 4, 2019
Iceborne is an amazing expansion that makes even better one of the best games of the generation. It might not be a new game, but it still is one of the best things we’ve played in a long time.
  17. Sep 4, 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is more than an expansion: it’s a generous gift to its fans (both the seasoned and the fresh ones), one that can last for hundreds of hours of the purest monster-hunting fun.
  18. Sep 6, 2019
Iceborne completes the path that Capcom started a year ago, but improving the overall quality through quality of life details, brand new monsters and the impressive comeback of some of the historical names that everybody wanted to face here. Excellent is the best word to define this expansion.
  19. Sep 10, 2019
Iceborne is a confident step into the future of the franchise, and it's hard not to think about what might come next.
  20. Sep 10, 2019
Monster Hunter: Iceborne it’s the return call to longtime franchise lovers, especially those who had reached the point where there was nothing else to do in the original release. Iceborne is a substantial expansion designed for those who demand a challenge.
  21. Sep 6, 2019
Iceborn uses smartly everything Monster Hunter World has to offer, and fixes every issues the original game had. Focusing on high-level players, it offers much great content and adds some much needed balance.
  22. Sep 5, 2019
If you loved Monster Hunter World, then you will love Iceborne madly and be ready to lose a considerable amount of sleep - as you will hardly be able to stop hunting.
  23. 90
If Monster Hunter: World is a revelation, then Iceborne is something more. It takes everything I loved about the original title, while improving the things that I didn't. Truly, even with some minor shortcomings, if the ideal form of Monster Hunter were to be given shape then this is just about as close as you could get.
  24. Sep 4, 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is one of the best games of the year, expansion or not.
  25. Sep 4, 2019
I'm still excited about the multitude of new monsters, story missions, abilities, the new hub with my cuddly winter home, and of course the armor and weapons.
  26. Sep 4, 2019
    Quotation forthcoming.
  27. Sep 4, 2019
I’m not sure if it can get better than this.
  28. Sep 4, 2019
Iceborne is the definitive endgame of Monster Hunter World and a proper sendoff to the game that ignited a new generation of fans in the West to experience the series for the first time.
  29. Sep 4, 2019
In the most vital ways, Iceborne nails what it needs to as an expansion. It's easy to marvel at both how much there is and the quality of so much of it. There are things this review hasn't even mentioned, such as the elaborate endgame, but these elements are probably better to discover on your own. There is no doubt that Iceborne is worth both the money and time, leaving such an impression that it's hard not to be optimistic about the series' future.
  30. Sep 4, 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne adds loads of impressive monsters and tons of quality-of-life improvements to an already incredible game.
  31. Sep 4, 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne skimps a bit on introducing totally new monsters, but it's still a large expansion filled with very smart refinements. The campaign alone comes close to matching the scale of the base game, and it wisely ditches some of its more tedious elements. If you played through the original and wanted more, then Iceborne is almost everything you could ask for. It's not a full sequel, but it's pretty darn close.
  32. Sep 4, 2019
You can just tell the developers had a ball working on Iceborne – it shows. And it's infectious.
  33. Sep 4, 2019
With everything that it brings to the table, Iceborne is a truly monstrous expansion. Capcom has gone above and beyond in crafting an additional adventure that breathes a shocking amount of new life into Monster Hunter World, setting a new benchmark for the series in terms of pure quality. Although many of the base game's gripes remain, it's ultimately very difficult to pick holes in such a supremely satisfying experience. Iceborne is Monster Hunter at its absolute best.
  34. Sep 4, 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is an excellent expansion so large that it almost feels like a sequel. It's a better version of a great game.
  35. 90
Iceborne takes what’s already fantastic and nearly doubles the original game in size. If you haven't played Monster Hunter yet, now is the time to start.
  36. Sep 4, 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is a massive expansion that adds new monsters, equipment, and a gorgeous new world to explore for players new and old.
  37. Sep 4, 2019
Monster Hunter: World is deservedly Capcom’s most successful game to date, and the Iceborne expansion amplifies everything positive about it. More incredible monsters, new lands and a wealth of ways to upgrade your Hunter will have fans in rapture, while new players yet to experience the delights of monster hunting can rest assured that there’s never been a better time to join the hunt.
  38. Sep 4, 2019
Monster Hunter World was already loads of fun and Iceborne just adds more of it, and more to do. If you sunk at least 60 hours into the base game, it would be a disservice to not get Iceborne. Even for those who never played Monster Hunter World but are on the fence about it, there is no better time than now to jump into the game (unless you’re on Steam and have to wait four more months).
  39. Sep 4, 2019
Monster Hunter World is a fantastic entry into the series and stands as a pinnacle of accomplishments for Capcom. Iceborne does everything within its power to improve upon that and does it fantastically. From the wide and varied amount of new monsters and sub-species, to the quality of life changes in the new village, Iceborne nails it extremely well.
  40. Sep 9, 2019
Iceborne is the greatest expansion in the Monster Hunter series of all time. New areas, monsters, and hunting mechanics make the game so fun and I can't stop playing it.
  41. Sep 8, 2019
Monster Hunter World Iceborne does what an expansion needs to do. It adds tons of new monsters, weapons and armor, which you can use in harder missions. It's story is still weak however and the full price might be a bit too high for an expansion.
  42. Sep 10, 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is a fantastic expansion for the most committed players. Almost all the flaws we found in the base game have been resolved, and the content available is now quite substantial. Even experts should find themselves putting a lot of extra hours into it. However, it is not a revolution — if you didn't like MHW, then Iceborne probably won't change your mind. If "harder, better, faster, stronger" fights were what you wanted, then this expansion is for you.
  43. Sep 11, 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne doesn't seem interested in doing anything revolutionary, but it opens up a vast new range of possibilities on a game that already invested a lot in updating the classic hunting formula. The ultimate version of MHW feels deep, challenging, rewarding and easy to navigate, but it could've had a wider variety of beasts to slay.
  44. Sep 6, 2019
With Iceborne, Capcom not only opens a new everfrost hunting area, but improves the game overall.
  45. Sep 4, 2019
Iceborne is a great expansion which revamps the best features of Monster Hunter World. We would have liked a few more new monsters instead of some variant, however we really can't complain about the hundreds of weapons, armors and collectibles we will gather in the next few months.
  46. Sep 4, 2019
Capcom has expanded its universe of monsters in a more than correct way with a cold place full of very high level monsters.
  47. Sep 4, 2019
Beautiful cold world, magnificent monsters, and spectacular fights. It suffers from A small déjà vu feeling but for hardcore fans it’s a must-play.
  48. Sep 4, 2019
Stepping back into Monster Hunter World for Iceborne reminded me how much I adore this game, but it also exposes its flaws. Capcom didn’t improve much for the expansion, like once again having a boring tower defense story mission and making you separately watch scenes solo before you can join up in co-op. Even so, surviving together to get that jackpot of materials for better gear hasn’t lost its allure, and Iceborne challenges you to be a better player and teammate with its arduous fights. The return trip is worth it, just don’t expect many upgrades to the experience.
  49. The Iceborne expansion is one of the great examples of how to new content should be added to the games. The old expansion pack feeling is mostly delivered with Iceborne with many new features, monsters and mechanics.
  50. Sep 9, 2019
Monster Hunter World Iceborne is the expansion that MHW fans are looking for. You can expect to lose hours of your life to this game, and enjoy every moment of it.
  51. Sep 8, 2019
Iceborne is a massive addition to an already huge and vibrant Monster Hunter world. Anyone who has played through and appreciated Monster Hunter World simply has zero reason not to invest in Iceborne. The ones who know, know. And If you don't know, it's time to start practicing.
  52. 80
An essential addition for any Monster World fan that offers a mountain of genuinely new content that includes some of the game’s best monsters.
  53. Sep 4, 2019
Monster Hunter is a massive expansion with some huge content (monsters, quests, ranks, sets...) and some good new features that will please everyone. A very good way to keep on hunting alone or with some friends, for dozens, no, hundreds of hours.
  54. Sep 4, 2019
Iceborne is as much a roaring success as Monster Hunter World was, and it can receive no higher praise than that. It successfully adds in new layers, monsters, and a beautiful new area, all of which will have players flocking back to the game to experience it all. It’s fun, it’s hard as nails, and it makes my PS4 sound like a jet engine. It’s a truly brilliant expansion to an excellent game.

Iceborne is one of the most ambitious expansions I’ve played for any game, and it largely lives up to those ambitions. The snow-swept forests and glacial caves of the Hoarfrost Reach are breathtaking in their beauty, and Iceborne’s extensive catalogue provides plenty of challenge. Old-school fans will find a triumphant return to the difficulty they love while those who started with World will clash with some of the franchise’s best creatures. Iceborne picks up the pace without altering the core spirit of what made the series great. And while its narrative and truisms never reconcile with the core gameplay, the experience is consistently exciting. It can be a grindy slog at times, but that’s Monster Hunter. And more Monster Hunter is always welcome.
  2. Sep 4, 2019
Iceborne wants you to take it slow, to cherish the fights, and to feel the danger with every swing of a monster’s tail. When I lost, I almost stayed knocked on my ass, pouting that the game is too frustrating — more punishing than the base game ever was. But instead, I took Iceborne’s hand, got back up, and it showed me one of the most rewarding video game experiences I’ve had this year.
  3. Sep 6, 2019
Iceborne does exactly what it needs to. Monster Hunter World was a pretty great template to work with, and now it’s deeper, broader, and far more challenging.
  4. Sep 4, 2019
The way the Nightshade Paolumu toyed with me, trapping me when least expected it, is a far cry from the original Paolumu’s fight, and in my opinion is one of the more interesting fights in the game to date. It shows the game’s designers have a few tricks left, too.
