Where NHL 15 falls down is with its replayability and game modes. Not only are fan favorite modes missing, but the ones we do get are not feature complete. If you can deal with only having a few modes, then NHL 15 is well worth buying, but the lack of variation is sure to become an issue over time.

If you're expecting a completely stacked, feature-laden game as you've gotten in the past, you're bound to be disappointed and on the phone with EA's customer service department, wondering where the majority of your game content has gone. However, if you're an avid hockey fan, you probably won't mind hitting the ice and taking part in a well-rounded contest of hockey, and seeing what the new visuals and audio have to deliver.

Gameplay-wise, marginally better and prettier than the last. Content-wise, the worst example in recent memory of the tight-fisted annual sports game model. [Christmas 2014, p79]

As someone who plays every NHL yearly release all year long, it is unfortunate to see just how badly this has gone. I can somewhat understand taking out 6v6 online play if it wasn’t ready, but taking out features in Be a GM or making Be a Pro completely unplayable is just ridiculous.

Focus on the game play. That's what matters, that's why people loved these games throughout the 90s. Sports games have been slowly turning into RPGs. I miss the simplicity of being able to play a 16 game season in Madden without having to price hot dogs and deal with whiny millionaires. Is that what we really want from our sports games? Holy crap. Pick up a copy of The Sims and outfit your digital nerd in a jersey if that's the experience you're after. I wish they'd strip these modes down even further and deliver the best on ice, field, diamond, etc... experience imaginable. People complain that not much changes year to year with these games, that's because they're too busy stuffing useless crap into what use to be a pure experience. Expand

It's shameless. But having said that, and knowing the frustration that is going around, I am still enjoying this game. The "Free content updates" are surely not enough but for what we have offered with this game, I try to make the most of. The visuals are nice, the commentary is alright, but the gameplay is fantastic.

I seldom played EASHL but it does suck that it's missing. HUT is in tact and it's a good time, but it's difficult to start. If you can persist, you'll be fine. Be a Pro lacks "skip to next shift" but you have the option of changing the lines (as a defenseman at least, I can press square on the PS4 version and change myself with the LD). It's fun. I'm having a blast.

There is a lot missing but if you can find a way to enjoy what is offered, then you have a decent game to play. And if you want to play EASHL or GM Connected mode, then go for the PS3/360 version of the game. The groundwork is laid for next year, gents, and we'll have a hell of a game then.

Good luck to your teams this coming year. GO ISLANDERS.

I have played this Franchise since NHL 09, and saw, for the most part, improvements made each year that made it worth the purchase.

My review is about Be A Pro, not on-line play.

This game is a couple of steps back. Many of the features we enjoyed in previous versions were not implemented. The announcers might as well just be on a loop, as most of the time they repeat the exact same thing and usually at times when it makes no sense.

There are a number of bugs, such as:
    1. If you get a minor penalty, but the AI opponent scores within a few seconds after, you may end up sitting in the penalty box for the remainder of the game. When looking at the box score, it will say you are a minor for xxxx (2 minute penalty), but the game will not show the power play clock and you will be stuck. (this is purely an error, as I am not referring to a game misconduct).

    2. Sometimes an AI player will be making the skating motion, but will not move. This usually goes away once the whistle is blown.

    3. If you are in the penalty box, and the opponent AI has the puck in their end, they may just stop moving, as your team's AI has offset their movement. Will start back up once your penalty is over and you move in.

There are many other issues, some of which were also in the previous versions, so will not go into them here..

This is a max a $10 title going for $60 still....

Maybe theyll add some more things whenever they feel like getting around to it, maybe they wont, but one thing is for sure. you gotta pay upfront for an incomplete product!

its like paying full retail price for a car, only to find out that the windows, brakes, air conditioner, steering wheel, and alternator, and pretty much every part of it havent yet been installed. "Hey give us full retail value now. We'll be sure to try to put some of that stuff you want in it later!"

.......Or how about going to a movie theater to watch a movie, paying for admission, only to find out 10 minutes in that it was all they managed to finish, and thanks for your money! check back in a few months to see a bit more!

You want to play online with a friend or set up some kind of an online tournament? Thats perfectly reasonable. Just have them fly across the country and sit on your couch. though im not exactly certain how that would work with HUT teams..

Yeah this game deserves a 0 but i give it a 1 just because of the enjoyment i had with the last 6 versions. this year they slopped it all together and expected it to sell. rammer and the developers need to be fired, as releasing unfinished garbage like this is completely unacceptable, and so is all the lies and PR **** they had to tell just to try to sell this game

Do not buy. incomplete garbage. stick with NHL 14, or the NHL 15 roster update on 360/PS3. At least those games are finished. .

I'm not normally the type to give a 0 because I like to look at the positives of the game, which this game does indeed have. Gameplay I will admit is great, but the fact that every single game mode is unplayable or nonexistent means you will not enjoy yourself unless you play the play now mode or versus online. They had 2 years to make a decent next-gen game and they did not succeed.

If they patch in the features missing like they say they will, the game will become tolerable, but for now, it simply is not.
