Fun at face-value with significant underlying depth, Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 – The Official Video Game bursts off the blocks at lightning speed and doesn’t break stride, pushing for gold and delivering a fun experience along the way. With clean and crisp visuals and gameplay that’s easy to learn and more intense to master, the only jarring thing about it is seeing crowds of people huddled together in the audience – but that could be the 2020 shellshock speaking.

An extremely entertaining handful of sports themed mini games with just a few duffers to be found amongst their number, Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 - The Official Video Game distils the longest running athletic spectacle on the planet into a great party game with charming visuals and immediate accessibility. Right now, Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 - The Official Video Game is one of the better party games of the year.

Overall, SEGA's multi-event title works and will provide decidedly pleasant afternoons and evenings to enjoy as a family in pursuit of the Olympic dream.

Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 - The Official Videogame doesn't have many sports, but has enough gameplay variety to keep you entertained with the multiplayer, smashing buttons in athleticism or playing arcade versions of football, basketball or baseball. If you're playing solo, it won't last you long.

Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is a great sports game but only a decent Olympics game. Nearly all of the 20 (or is it 16?) events offer an enjoyable enough time and only a few are bogged down by mechanics, but once you’ve played them all a couple of times, you’re done. If you dabble in the two player mode regularly or find a game online, it could be a deeper experience, but it just feels like the trimmings aren’t quite there. I won the boxing gold medal as a bunny rabbit maid with blue hair though, so there’s that.

Olympic Games Tokyo 2020: The Official Video Game is fine. It would've been nice to get some of the events from the Mario & Sonic series ported over to make this feel more robust compared to Sega's older Olympics titles, but what's here plays well enough if you don't mind some quirks — especially with the team games. The focus on multiplayer is warranted, since that's how the general public will approach it, but it would've been nice if there were more for the solo player to do. If you're looking for a party game and not a serious multi-discipline sports simulation, this isn't a bad choice.

Squeezing almost twenty sports into one package so that everyone is lively and functional, turned out to be too difficult for the creators. Unfortunately, the game is a lifeless, unbalanced, and the price is exorbitant.

I have great wired in connection and the lag is unreal as the game tries to sync servers from all over the world. This would be less of a problem if so many of the games weren't rhythm action games. The timing is so precise, the fractions knock you off the timing. I had one successful no lag play when all of the other players were automated, but even one player from a different time zone skews terribly into unplayable lag.

+ Great single player/local player arcade sports game
    - Online and ranked modes are currently unplayable

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is an extreme disappointment. When I first downloaded the game, I was hoping to finally get a realistic olympics video game. (I have not watched any trailers yet) But when I played it, it was a cartoony game like like Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games with the power moves and all. Since Sega also developed Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games, they decided to cheap out and use the same gameplay on the existing games, and they didn't even add all the Olympic games! Why call it an official Olympic video game if all the games aren't there? But anyway, the new games aren't that good either except Baseball. Basketball is rigged because the AI just spams the dumb power moves. You can't even turn them off! Overall, this game is just a lazy reskin of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games with less content. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I heard this game was in development I was very excited as the London 2012 game was a very good game so my anticipation was high. I saw this game on ps now and took what I thought was a great deal but I was very wrong. The game shames the legacy of London 2012 and has affected my Tokyo 2020 Olympic viewing experience. This has a very low roster of events compared to 2012 and the childish graphics make them feel unrealistic and fake so is hard to get engaged with. The events that are in the game are very underwhelming and are a real problem to human sanity to play, especially the online events. Baseball is very laggy and the servers in general are very shoddy. Football and rugby sevens are ok but a real slog to play as your team is incompetent and struggles with basic human mobility. Another problem with online play is that the records display incorrectly meaning I don't know what score I should be aiming for. The single player is a slight improvement but is still a complete **** The only reason i have given this game a 1 instead of a 0 is that there are events in the game and it has online, but that's about all it has going for it. What a shame that Olympic video games have taken such a fall from grace and in my opinion is one of Segas worst games ever. I cannot recommend anyone plays this as it is truly terrible and I do not wish you to feel what I have had to go through playing this. Expand
