It is EXACTLY the game I hoped it would be: arcade space combat a-la Wing Commander, X-Wing, and StarFox, well-made toys that would look good in any display case, and casual open-world gameplay like other TTL games. Some of the characters are a little flat (Judge, Mason), others are fantastic (I enjoy the performances of Eli, Kharl, Shaid, Razor, and Hunter especially). The story isn't mind-blowing, however, it's easy to follow and compelling because it's very well-told. They don't waste a lot of time, they just jump right in, which is the best way to tell these stories. The StarFox stuff is probably the highlight of the game, though. All four members are there, same voice actors, they got the writing pitch perfect, and the inclusion of SF sound effects and music and Star Wolf can easily trick you into thinking you're playing an actual StarFox game.

I think the low scores on this game are stemming from what a lot of low scores these days stem from: overhype and outsized, unrealistic expectations. The game world is huge, yes, but the game itself is pretty casual (space dogfights can be pretty hard though, even on Normal difficulty). There are a limited amount of things you can do, but as you do them you can unlock more and more lore, and upgrade your characters and weapons to enable better and better things. If that's what you're into, and you like that arcade style shooter gameplay, this game is for you. If not, it's probably not your cup of tea and you should look elsewhere. Personally, it's not going to make my Game of the Year list or anything, but it's a great way to unwind at the end of the day and collect some sweet sweet plastic.

Starlink is a great game. The physical toys are well made and look good. Love the feature of upgrading the ships and characters and the bonuses the characters gave etc. Easy to pick up and play and the upgrading of the bases on each planets etc. The collectables are easy that it doesn't become too much of a grind to collect them. Easy Platinum Trophey as well.

The only thing that would of made this better is if they had online co-op and more DLC.

The only let down would be for me was the exclusive Star Fox content for the Nintendo Switch owners that we didn't get on the PS4.

At first, this game felt amazing. Ubisoft really stretched their open-world formula to a new level with 7 planets to explore instead of a few cities. However, soon the game felt repetitive and boring, traveling between planets felt long and tedious and most of the open-world was very empty. Ubisoft needs to learn that a large area does not mean a good game as quality>quantity. The game didAt first, this game felt amazing. The game did a good attempt to bring toys-to-life back into relevance however this concept has been long expired.
Also, I didn't bother buying the toys as they were way more expensive than the digital versions. I recommend buying this game on sale as the game will get very boring if played for a long session.

The game after a certain point has a lack of ingenuity and suffers from this, other than that it’s a lot of fun. The story is enjoyable but not the best. It is a great game and I enjoyed playing it.

It is not a bad game, but feels rushed and unfinished. The flight and fight mechanics are simple and easy to learn. Space to planet transitions are well done. Fights are addictive. But the game true potential is ruined by corporate greed. Campaign is too short, economy and planet management aspect is reduced to occasional fights with legion and outlaws. After campaign ends (which is really just an extended tutorial for the game), there is absolutely nothing to do besides defeating regularly spawned primes. There is split screen multiplayer, but no playing over the network. The graphics looks dated by PS4 standards (looks the same on PS4 Pro). Expand

Combat does get harder later, but it stops short of doing anything new or interesting. But it does its job well enough for a parent to steal the controller of their kid for a few battles. That old rivalry with Star Wolf needs to be settled.

A good core experience with novel ideas stifled by a disproportionately high price tag, embarrassing amounts of repetitive filler, and pay-to-win mechanics. [Issue#156, p.87]

Colorful and action-packed space opera with a funny toys-to-life component. Deductions for the outrageous pricing policy.
