You play as "XIII", a man without an identity, in a solo campaign with numerous twists and turns. Inspired by the eponymous graphic novel, the game features a completely reinvented and unique cel-shading design. In XIII, players can also take part in fierce multi-player fights.

The country remains in a state of shock following the assassination of President Sheridan. You wake up, wounded and with amnesia, on a deserted beach on the east coast. The only clues as to your identity are a tattoo of the number XIII near your collarbone and a locker key. Even though your memory is failing, you discover that you have the reflexes of a highly trained professional fighter. You set off in search of your past, discovering that you played a role in the murder of the President of the United States of America, and revealing the most astounding conspiracy ever hatched in the country's history.

XIII returns with an opportunity to redeem himself but with performance improvements to be made. If those fringes are finally solved, he will once again enjoy a luxurious opportunity to convince the players who did not do it before and hold more to a thread of hope for the second half.

Microids' remake of XIII is the equivalent of injecting a deadly virus into the structure of the original game that results in nothing more than corruption.

This XIII Remake was supposed to allow fans of the original to relive their memories in a way that was suited to modern hardware and gameplay norms. Sadly, this game failed to deliver due to a questionable choice of art-direction, last gen controls and many, many flaws and bugs that hamper the game.

XIII Remake could well be called a demake as this new version feels a step back from the original game. Littered with bugs, the game is rendered almost unplayable, and we still don't get how it could be released in this state.

    Difficult to recommend.

XIII Remake completely disgraces the original game by converting it into fodder for Internet memes. It’s better left to the digital wasteland of unfortunate titles that should have never existed. If you really want to play XIII as it was intended, dust off your old PlayStation 2 (or GameCube or Xbox) and scavenge garage sales for a copy of the game.

Ironically, this played better in 2003. [Issue#183, p.81]

This is how you remake a game, not this bs remake that they did with demon souls.

Amazing remake of true classic. Art style, music, voice acting, everything is just great.

The game is terribly optimised and suffers greatly from performance issues. It also stutters and chugs along somewhere between 10fps or below whenever there is more than one character on screen and the amount of screen tearing in this game is absolutely staggering. Character Models/A.I will often be contorted and doing something that they're not meant to be doing. For example, there were many a-time where I'd be in a gunfight with a few enemies for them to only to disperse and run off into a corner and just stand there. Level Design is quite awful as there were a few occasions where I'd wonder around a small area for about 10 minutes with no idea where to go, only for a YouTube gameplay being able to assist me as the Game's Navigator decides whenever it wants shows up. There is very little care or effort put into this title which is quite apparent especially when there is so much clipping issues that often requires a few restarts before key objects correctly appear and there's even grammatical errors in the trophy description. I would also remap some controls (nothing fancy, just changing buttons inputs from "hold" to "press") however, despite these settings getting saved, the game would just decide when it was going to obey them.

The only merits I can give this game is that the checkpoint restarts are instantaneous, Adam West VO being included and the story is interesting.

It's such a shame because I was really looking forward to trying the remake of the original XIII as I never got around to it when I was younger. However, despite a 25GB patch later, this game is riddled with bugs that really takes any enjoyment out of it and because the game is quite lengthy, it's a real headache to complete. I wish this game gets the remake treatment it deserves in a few years under a competent developer.

Gets a 0. As much as i wanna enjoy the star power of david not talking very much, and the great cel shaded art.. it's impossible to without the "do you wish to make a report to sony".

"saving the game" is useless, half the time it doesn't save your position and puts you back to the start of the level with the unskippable cutscenes.

The quality of games since cyberpunk is approaching lunacy.

At least on the PS5 the error screen is no longer blue. DO NOT PAY FOR THIS. i mean this type of game release should be illegal.
