  1. The racing gameplay is straightforward and although there are unlockables, there isn't enough to increase the replay value score. The wireless multi-player mode will be the game's only salvation in terms of replay value.

An enjoyable romp for those new to the genre and old hands alike.

What Cars does deliver, however, is a great racing experience for fans of the movie that want what the big boys have, while still enjoying the character and light-hearted feel of the Disney/Pixar label. It doesn’t have the free-roam feel of the console versions, but it does deliver far more entertainment with pure driving and tight control.

Although Cars is no real match for the all-conquering "Ridge Racer," its unexpectedly speedy action makes it well worth a test drive nonetheless. [Oct 2006, p.98]
  5. Cars is good, but it's not great, and that's the problem. The one genre that the PSP has been very, very blessed with thus far is the arcade racer. Between "Burnout Legends", "Ridge Racer" and the amazing "WipEout Pure", there's just no room for good here.

If you're going for sheer quality, the PSP version of Cars is the best of the handheld games based on the movie.
  7. Cars is by no means a terrible game, just a very average one. And 'average' is not the sort of thing you'd expect anyone to happily spend £30 on. Go see the film five times instead.

probably one of the most fun arcade style games on the PSP. Really fun levels and looks great too. I had my doubts but after playing it i was hooked.

Upon playing, I was almost immediately greeted with a much more challenging game, and I actually enjoyed it. Although the story mode was rather short in actuality, the level of increasing difficulty made it seem like it was much longer. The number of playable characters was also a bit... excessive, for a rather short game with not too much to offer. The AI rivals also aren't too bad upon just a quick study of their behavior, they aren't aggressive in any way, but upon closer inspection, the rubberbanding is horrible once they're about to leave the minimap (not sure why it even exists given its not open world) Although newer racing games' rubberbanding makes this one look good, it still should not exist.

Overall this game was very good for it's time, a simple and straightforward racing game.
