During the planning phase the game presents itself with a simple, 2D interface. It is there that you select the best materials for your bridge and connect the dots to make the most resilient structure you can. You can approach each level as a complex puzzle, trying to be as efficient as possible and get the best solution. But don't be afraid to experiment too. You can just go crazy and construct something that looks outrageous but still somehow works. There's fun in both of these approaches.

With plenty of hidden depths to its gameplay, including optional extras, Build a Bridge! will reward fans of physics sims with its comedic take on science. Others may find the overly complex controls and reliance on trial and error somewhat frustrating.

The only real complaint I have is some of the levels are locked behind amiibos, which I find baffling. The different camera views are nice, and each level having 3 challenges (as well as the standard budget goals) adds to the replayability, and it’s fairly intuitive controls on the Switch. I got it at 80% off, but my strongest recommendation is to get whichever bridge builder is on sale, because there’s not much in them. Expand
