Flush with a gorgeous and uplifting soundtrack, Forgotten Land is a heart-warming and no-stress experience while providing some fun challenges and deeper upgrades should you want them. Either way, this is a must-have game and yet another instant Nintendo classic that's not only warmly familiar, but also subtly inventive in a way that'll keep you hooked until the end.

I came to love every decision these designers made for this somehow-still-just-his-first-time-in-3D Kirby adventure. There is so much to love here, and it's so apparent that the whole package was put together with a remarkable amount of respect for this now 30-year-old series. I encourage every Switch owner to join Kirby on this journey immediately. Go make yourself some memories in the Forgotten Land! [Issue #59 – May/June 2022, p. 73]

So far, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the best thing I’ve played this year and quite possibly might wind up being my game of the year. It’s a really fun, gorgeous, and creative game that was a delight to play, and I’d love to see HAL develop a sequel (or just another entry in the series) in the same style. Do yourself a favor and add this game to your Switch library.

I can genuinely say that I haven’t had such a good time playing a game from start to finish as I did with Kirby and the Forgotten Land in quite some time. It put a grin on my face from the start, and it kept me happily engaged to the very last drop. Then I pulled my son in and we played through everything again in multiplayer. It’s one of the better Kirby games, and deserves a place of honor among the upper canon of Nintendo Switch titles.
  5. 100
What you do get with this game is so many exciting features, action-filled battles, plenty of items to collect, and a story that is way more entertaining than many other adventure games I’ve played this year so far.
  6. 100
I’m not the world’s biggest fan of platformers, but I can’t help but delight at what Kirby and the Forgotten Land offers. It’s bright, wholesome, charming, funny and memorable. It’s also a near-flawless example of Nintendo at its very best.
  7. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten land is the beacon of joy we all need in these wild times. It’s pure, wholesome fun that can (and should) be enjoyed by all ages.
  8. Mar 28, 2022
Despite a brand new world and switching from 2D to 3D, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the traditional Kirby experience you know and love. This is a by-the-books Kirby game in an exciting new world, and it’s an experience you can share with your family — especially with how well the co-op mode is implemented.
  9. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land isn’t just a mere leap into the third dimension, but more of a behemoth pole vault. It packs a massive punch for 3D-platformer fans, and has the same level of excellence, polish, and charm as a mainline Mario title. Though I can’t give the game a perfect score due to its relatively short length and minor graphical glitches, the next generation of the Kirby series is finally here, and it’s painstakingly phenomenal. I couldn’t be more excited for what the bright-looking future holds from the creative geniuses over at Hal Laboratory.
  10. Mar 23, 2022
I'm an easy sell when it comes to Kirby, but Forgotten Land is easily one of my favorite entries in the series, and possibly my top game outside of Kirby Super Star (an all-time classic).
  11. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is one of the absolute best first-party titles the Nintendo Switch has to offer. The game feels great to play, looks lovely, and introduces a vibrant and surprising world packed with new mechanics, challenges, and content. Kirby fans have been waiting a long time for his first 3D game, and Forgotten Land truly is the pink one’s Super Mario 64 or Zelda: Ocarina of Time, so puff out a sigh of relief and eat heartily.
  12. Mar 23, 2022
    Quotation forthcoming.
  13. May 16, 2022
A stunning audiovisual world coupled with a ton of content to explore, even more objects to inhale and an impeccably executed co-op component make this a fantastic premiere in a genre where we too often think the last word has been written - it has not, and Kirby is here to remind us.
  14. May 12, 2022
At heart, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is classic Kirby, with the playful attitude and neat abilities that have long defined the series and a handful of new ideas thrown into the mix, with the transition to 3D adding a whole new world of possibilities that the level designers never fail to capture and explore to the fullest. It may have been a long time coming, but Kirby’s first real foray into three dimensions is an absolute delight.
  15. Apr 19, 2022
Overall, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is an amazing and involved modern platformer, with a surprising amount of content. While Super Mario 3D World gets a lot of attention on the Switch, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is actually the better game and pushes the platforming genre forward in a surprisingly involved way.
  16. Apr 18, 2022
Hal Laboratory and Nintendo smashed it out of the park with Kirby and the Forgotten Land, adding yet another gem to the already stacked Switch library. No, it's not the most challenging or taxing gameplay experience going, but that's not what one should expect from Kirby either. Perhaps it could be described as the perfect palate cleanser or antidote to those more difficult experiences - and more importantly, unlike those titles, doesn't require as many caveats to its recommendation. For those who enjoy their character designs round, this will likely appease, but at the end of the day, it's just… fun!
  17. Apr 15, 2022
The brand new Kirby's 3D adventure is a spectacular iteration of the franchise.
  18. Apr 14, 2022
Kirby might be overshadowed by other Nintendo franchises but in terms of quality it’s right up there with the best of them. Forgotten Land embodies the essence of Nintendo’s creativity, friendliness and charm, while its level design is so good the rest of the industry should take notes.
  19. Apr 12, 2022
I think the words "pure joy" perfectly encapsulate Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It was immensely successful in targeting its younger audience, while still accommodating older fans of the Kirby franchise. It’s full of personality, absolutely endearing, and at times just downright hilarious – what more could you ask from a Kirby game?
  20. Apr 11, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land takes the Kirby series into 3D in a wonderfully designed, bursting with personality adventure. It might not be the most challenging game you ever play, but there are enough secrets in the game to leave anyone going back for more. Its beautifully designed environments, characters and overall humor make Kirby and the Forgotten Land a game that leaves a smile on your face. Its co-op mode is a bit of an afterthought, lacking any power-ups or true definition of what the second player is doing on your adventure. However, those with smaller kids wanting a first-time platform in a game to play, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is perfect for them. If you’re planning on playing solo, then Kirby and the Forgotten Land is one of Nintendo Switch’s must-play 3D platforms. It’s simply too fun of an experience for anyone to miss!

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is far better than I could have imagined. Its ruined yet beautiful world carries a tone of wonder and amazement throughout the entire game, and HAL Laboratory undoubtedly stuck the landing while transitioning the series’ gameplay into 3D. Though I am disappointed in the small number of copy abilities, the game’s issues are mere bumps in the road compared to its many triumphs. It is the only game I can think of to make me cry from the sheer joy of how cute and heartwarming it can be, and it is in my opinion the best game Kirby’s name has ever been on.
  22. Apr 8, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a colourful, magical, platforming-adventure delight with a cute factor that is out of this world! The game isn’t very difficult, but the upgraded copy abilities, mouthful mode, and fantastic level design make it a worthy addition to any Switch collection.
  23. Apr 8, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a joyous, colourful adventure that bursting with invention at the seams. It’s a magically daft time, perfect for those nights when the world just looks a little too bleak. With its gorgeous level design and inventive approach to gameplay, a waltz through the Forgotten Lands is a charming way to spend your evenings. The only issues I found were that some of the mini bosses felt slightly repetitive, and the co-op limitations. But, despite this, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a triumph that Nintendo should not forget so easily.
  24. Apr 7, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land manages to bring the charm of the series into the tridimensional world. While some of its mechanics and level design have trouble evolving in order to remain accessible to the less skilled players, the game holds ground as a remarkably fun and atmospheric adventure. An absolute recommendation to all the Kirby fans, but also to those that seek some lighthearted fun that one can never truly have enough of.
  25. Apr 4, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is an excellent first foray into 3D for the pink puffball. There’s so much to see and do on this adorable adventure it’s hard to focus on just one thing for long, and it’ll keep fans new and old entertained for some time.
  26. Apr 3, 2022
Kirby remains as pure and charming as ever, and his newest game is an absolute joy.
  27. Apr 1, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a masterful translation of the series' longstanding formula and merits into the 3D space.
  28. Mar 31, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land brings an impressive journey that makes you play like a kid. With the 3D level design, you can still feel those classic Kirby elements, it is still one of the best Kirby games ever made.
  29. Mar 30, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is still a tremendous adventure. It makes the transition from 2D to 3D effortlessly, and offers an expansive adventure full of replay value. While I was frustrated by some curious omissions, this is still one of the best Kirby games in quite a while and easily the best one yet on Nintendo Switch. A must-own for fans of the pink puffball.
  30. Mar 30, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a huge step in a new direction for the series. Many fans will say that despite enjoying recent titles, the formula had been growing stale and repetitive especially after Star Allies. Forgotten Land at its core is still Kirby, and feels like the traditional adventure, but adding this extra layer to levels, exploration and combat opens up a whole new way to experience the journey like never before. It’s not only utterly charming in that lovable Kirby way, it’s also a fantastic look at the kind of new creative ideas we’ll hopefully get to see from here on out. While the 2D-styled Kirby titles will still be around, it’d be wonderful if focusing on larger 3D adventures was the new plan moving forward as Kirby and the Forgotten Land hits the ground running with one of the franchise’s best titles to date.
  31. 90
With new gameplay features and a welcome shift to 3D, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a short and sweet experience with a ton of replayability.
  32. Mar 29, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a simple yet satisfying platformer that's fun for people of all ages and skill levels. Mouthful Modes are hilarious and upgrading Copy Abilities provides something fun to work towards whether you're playing alone or with a friend.
  33. Mar 29, 2022
Kirby did it again: Nintendo and HAL Labs gave us one of the best games in the Kirby franchise, with amazing visuals, great soundtrack and most importantly: incredible and fun gameplay. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is simply a must have for Switch owners.
  34. Mar 29, 2022
The Kirby series has always offered fun with a wide array of copy abilities, which proves to be a great match for 3D. The newly implemented Mouthful Mode that allows Kirby to swallow large-scale objects and the ability to level up your copy abilities are great fun. While the extra stages that unlock after beating the main game are a bit of a disappointment, as a whole Kirby and the Forgotten Land is an extraordinarily well made 3D action game that celebrates our pink friend’s 30th anniversary in the best way possible.
  35. Mar 28, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a delicious mouthful of puzzling, platforming, adventure-filled fun, with heaps of inventive mechanics, luscious level design, and plenty of challenges to chew on
  36. 90
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is fun, relaxing, and challenging all at once. Kirby’s first major leap into 3D is an incredible success, with new mechanics and altered gameplay providing a familiar-yet-unique experience for any fan of the series. Forgotten Land provides incredible foundations for the future of 3D Kirby games, and one can only hope that HAL will continue to build upon them.
  37. Mar 23, 2022
There‘s something magical about Kirby’s new adventure. It brings back that childlike joy which comes from exploring a big museum, library or department store. The game is easy enough to pick up, but also more challenging than recent outings of the pink puffball. In some places, it is breathtakingly beautiful, while in others, it is just cute, silly fun. It may have a nonsensical story, it may not be a next grand open-world adventure, but Kirby and the Forgotten Land is wonderful nonetheless. It is pure joy from start to finish.
  38. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is one of the most beautiful games you can find in the Nintendo Switch catalog. Cute, clever and fun, it is the best Kirby game to date.
  39. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the best Kirby game I’ve ever played. It’s probably the best Kirby game you’ve played to date, too. More evolution than revolution, it's nonetheless a big step forwards, not only in its newly added third dimension of gameplay, but also in its quality of life additions, its clever approach to powerups, and its delicious gameplay loop. Sure, there are issues with it, if I sit down and try to think hard, but the moment I get into the game they all fall by the wayside and I’m sucked into a wonderful, incredible, enjoyable experience that’s quite unlike anything else in the series.
  40. Mar 23, 2022
Carefully crafted and full of surprises and quirks, Kirby and the forgotten land is easily the best adventure in the series to date.
  41. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land may be seen as an evolution rather than a revolution for the mightily-powered pink puffball, but the result is a stride in the right direction and what easily ranks as one of Kirby’s best adventures to date. The experience never failed to raise a smile and that it left me never wanting the adventure to end certainly can’t be a bad thing – especially with an appetite as endless as the game’s heroic pink star.
  42. Mar 23, 2022
All in, a cracking Switch title. One that doesn’t feel particularly fresh in any area but is done with enough Nintendo charm and style that it’s still a pleasure to play.
  43. Mar 23, 2022
The people at HAL Laboratory have finally outdone themselves by delivering the first, fully-3D core game of the series, in an adventure that has much to offer players of all ages and experiences. Regardless of whether players choose to go single or co-op, Kirby and the Forgotten Land manages to make huge leaps towards being a great Kirby experience.
  44. Mar 23, 2022
The way Kirby and the Forgotten builds on the traditions of the series really makes it feel like we've entered into a new era for the pink puffball. The bigger, more open 3D setting full of challenges and inventive features makes this an unmissable adventure for long-time fans. And for newcomers, I can't think of a better introduction. There's just no holding back my excitement about what the future may hold for the series going forward. Kirby and the Forgotten Land truly is a delight from start to finish.
  45. Mar 23, 2022
The battles in co-op are fun and the soundtrack is cool. That is the only thing we can say in a positive sense about Babylon's Fall. Otherwise, the game falls short on all fronts. The story is not very interesting, the graphics are horrible and the combat system is very standard so you get little pleasure from it. A game that in concept certainly sounded interesting, but is in practice very disappointing.
  46. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is one of those games that's hard to play without constantly having a silly smile on your face. It's far more than just a cute and charming platformer with colorful visuals, though. This is one of the best platformers on Nintendo Switch thanks to its brilliantly designed stages and a dynamic arsenal of abilities that consistently shake up the moment-to-moment platforming and action. And FrankenKirby, if you're reading this review, please don't eat me. I don't have any cool powers anyway.
  47. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is great and should not be missed for Kirby and platforming fans alike. This isn’t quite the pink puff’s rendition of Super Mario 64, but it brings the series successfully into the 3D realm and doesn’t need to rely solely on its latest entertaining gimmick. Kirby thankfully remains as charming as ever and this new adventure can effortlessly provide hours of glee.
  48. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land goes well beyond my personal expectations with both innovation as well as pure fun throughout the whole journey. Its world invites you to explore every single area thanks to the many minigames, puzzles as well as cooperative experiences that extend the overall gameplay in a most satisfying way. It's an ambitious game that will appeal to the long-time fans of Kirby, but also to newcomers.
  49. Mar 23, 2022
With lush graphics, fun gameplay, and a ton to see and do, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a must-play for fans of the series, or anyone that has ever wanted to try a Kirby game. This year marks Kirby's 30th anniversary, and the future for the series has never looked brighter.
  50. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the first ever full 3D Kirby game and a brilliant new chapter developed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series. You have to travel through a mysterious world jumping, flying, eating everything and absorbing and copying enemies’ abilities. A bunch of them return but there are brand new ones and an ability upgrading system. Mouthful mode allows Kirby to absorb larger objects like cars or vending machines that open the way to brilliant ideas and gameplay variety. There are a two-player local co-op mode and several items to collect, alongside a speedrun mode for secondary stages and a bunch of mini-games in the city. Even if the controls and camera angles are not always perfect, this is one of the most brilliant and joyful Kirby games ever made and a must buy for platform lovers.
  51. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby’s long been there when it comes to Nintendo’s most commonly seen characters. There have been several very good games, but perhaps no out-and-out classic that went beyond appealing primarily to already invested fans of HAL’s creations. Kirby and the Forgotten Land should be that title, though. It deserves to do for Kirby what Super Mario 64 did for Nintendo’s mascot, and what Ocarina of Time achieved for Link’s adventures across Hyrule. It’s that good, that accomplished, that slick and sumptuous and gosh-darn spectacular, and represents a near-essential addition to any Switch collection regardless of your usual tastes in games.
  52. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land adds challenge and adventure in a way that the series has never seen before. An essential purchase and a lovely surprise.
  53. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a great big colourful joyride of an adventure for our little pink pal. This first fully three dimensional mainline entry in the franchise is bursting at the seams with fun and inventiveness, managing to transpose everything we know and love about past Kirby games to this all-new arena whilst adding plenty of delightful new aspects as it goes. Mouthful Mode is just as daftly entertaining as it looked in the trailers, each and every level is packed full of secrets and dripping in wonderful detail, and there are enough side activities, collectibles and co-op fun here to keep you entertained and coming back for more for a good long while. What a grand way to celebrate 30 years of Planet Popstar's finest.
  54. Mar 23, 2022
Between the permanently brilliant visuals, the warmth of Waddle Dee Town, the mini-games that pepper the overworld map, and the many variants of Mouthful Mode, Kirby and the Forgotten Land does nearly everything right in bringing Kirby into modern console gaming.
  55. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is one of, if not the best, Kirby games ever made. It combines everything that makes modern Kirby games wonderful, fun, and charming and mixes them all together into a delicious dessert blend that you can’t help but love and want more of. While the game won’t take you too long to beat, there’s more than enough on offer to make Kirby and the Forgotten Land well worth replaying.
  56. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land makes Kirby's jump to 3D feel effortless, but it's much more than that, with the vibrantly styled decaying world to explore and the Mouthful Modes that will have you laughing with each new one that's discovered.
  57. Mar 23, 2022
Playing Kirby and the Forgotten Land made me realise that I've never seen any series transition smoother to 3D gameplay. Even with its new dimension, it's undeniably Kirby through-and-through and also one of the best games in the franchise.
  58. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the franchise's best platformer yet. With memorable levels, tons of content and gorgeous visuals it's a great package and one that'll satisfy all skill levels.
  59. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land may be a slight step down from similar Nintendo Switch games like Super Mario Odyssey itself, but it's one of those offerings that will light up your eyes with how much fun it is. It's less open-ended and more straightforward than modern platformers, but that traditional feel, along with the versatility brought by the charismatic character's transmorphic power, fit the package perfectly.
  60. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby transitions into 3D with one of its best games yet. A beautiful adventure that has brought a smile to our faces from the beginning to the end.
  61. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the forgotten land is adorable and family-friendly, but it is also a great debut in 3D adventures and has a great endgame that every player must try.
  62. Jun 26, 2022
As Kirby emerges from the 3D waters where he sailed for the first time, he also manages to shed light on the future of platform games with its wide variety of gameplay and meticulous location designs.
  63. May 3, 2022
Overall, Forgotten Land is just a great time with a mix of genuine challenge and simple fun. Like most Kirby games, I don’t think Forgotten Land is going to set the world on fire but it’s really good. Like a favorite blanket, Kirby is always a joy to come back to and I’m really glad I played Forgotten Land.
  64. Apr 25, 2022
The new Kirby game isn't as big as Breath of the Wild or Mario Odyssey, but is a full of content and fun game that ends up being a must-play for the console and a great choice for any type of player.
  65. Apr 21, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land isn't a revolution for the series, but... did it need to be? All it had to do was deliver a game that was faithful to what has made Kirby a franchise that generates excitement, and it largely succeeded at that. Kirby took too long to make the leap to 3D, but the point is that he did it, and in a satisfying way.
  66. Apr 7, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is an adorable game with creative levels that make the most of the excellent power ups like mouthful mode, and it’s all set to a remarkable soundtrack. There’s a surprising amount of extra activities, and levels do a superb job of incentivizing you to seek out hidden objectives in order to expand the charming hub town and power up your arsenal. The technical shortcomings and some minor platforming woes at the hands of the camera work are the only blemishes on an otherwise marvelous game.
  67. Mar 30, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a delightful cotton candy fluff of a game. It isn't difficult or complex, but it is frequently fun and always adorable. It's almost more of a theme park ride than a platformer, but it does a great job of keeping itself engaging and interesting with a constant shift in mechanics and level design. The only flaw holding it back is the poor performance when docked, which could be a game-breaker for someone hoping for a Mario Odyssey level out of everyone's favorite pink puffball. If you enjoy Kirby, you'll enjoy Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and I'd be hard pressed to name a better choice for younger gamers.
  68. Mar 30, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Lands may not quite be up there with the greats of the genre, it’s an incredibly pleasant experience with a great degree of thoughtfulness put into it, from the charming touches littered throughout its overgrown and unkempt world, through to its unabashed emphasis on fun as best evidenced in its hub world. This is a great Switch exclusive for players of all skill levels.
  69. Mar 29, 2022
True to its roots, Forgotten Land is a very friendly, lighthearted, and immensely delightful experience filled with the brand of exploration and discovery the series is known for. A little more variety in the selection of abilities and boss battles would have taken it to the next level, but it still manages to offer fans fresh concepts that elevate it to a new level and scale the series has never seen before.
  70. Mar 29, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a good time certified with Nintendo’s seal of quality. If you’re a Switch owner, you simply can’t go wrong with jumping into this one. It may not do anything groundbreaking, but as a platformer, it unites several ideas into excellent level design pacing, with everything coming together smoothly for an adventure that you’re sure to enjoy.
  71. Mar 28, 2022
Not since Super Mario Odyssey have I played a platformer that so consistently put a smile on my face. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is adorable, unadulterated fun, whether it’s the subtle animations of the adorable pink protagonist himself or the lush environments, there’s an attention to detail that makes Kirby and the Forgotten Land an absolute must-play. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the kind of game we need more of in these strange times, and it’s a welcome palate cleanser after so many more serious games.
  72. Mar 24, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a game that every Nintendo Switch owner should try. It has some solid game mechanics and a world that doesn't seem related to the Kirby franchise. Hardcore fans will find the game a pleasant experience. On the other hand, newcomers will fall in love with the protagonist's uncontrollable tenderness and humor that brightens the day of many people around the globe.
  73. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is simply the family game not to be missed this year on Nintendo Switch. It will be able to please young and old alike thanks to its charming graphic and sound atmosphere. If almost all the main levels are indeed too simple, this lack of difficulty sometimes frustrating on other platformers like Crash Bandicoot or even Super Mario, allows to enjoy this Kirby in 3D. All the more so as the challenge is present elsewhere: via the Meta Knight Cup fights for example or the ton of side levels that put your reflexes to the fore.
  74. Mar 23, 2022
Successful bet for our little pink ball! This transition to 3D is a great success and gives more depth to this Nintendo universe, usually further back than the giants of the firm (Mario, Zelda and other Pokémon). Between well-thought-out novelties and emblematic elements, Kirby has undeniably found the right formula and gives us an excellent surprise. Everything is simple, of course, but it works and it is difficult to let go of the console. So yes, the world is less open than we thought, yes you will find few real challenges there, but we quickly forget that once the game is launched. A little breath of fresh air that feels good and is an excellent gateway into the world of Kirby.
  75. 85
Kirby and the Forgotten Land takes the Kirby franchise to new heights in new and interesting ways. Whilst it's not the full step forward that I was hoping for, it's still super enjoyable and excites me for what could be next in the Kirby series.
  76. Mar 23, 2022
Enter Kirby and the Forgotten Lands with reasonable expectations and you’ll soon see one of the best refinements of a long-standing Nintendo formula yet. Cooperative play may waver in quality but does not diminish the wondrous experience ahead of you. On offer is plenty of platforming fun to sink your teeth into. Exploration, combat and the completionist itch that comes with a Kirby title are all present and strong here, and it also serves to be one of the longer adventures yet, with more to do than ever before. If you’re looking for the bright and joyous game to cosy up with on the couch this year, Kirby and the Forgotten Lands is without a doubt the one. Just maybe keep a suspicious eye on that beast pack.
  77. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby makes a furious 3D debut, which is particularly impressive with its loving charm and funny skills.
  78. This is no open-world Kirby game. Kirby and the Forgotten Land undeniably pushes the series to a new scale, but at its core, it’s more of the same. That’s not a complaint, though. If anything, it shows that the Kirby team knows its audience, as the franchise’s predictable formula is part of its appeal ... Think of it as comfort food.
  79. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a very important game in these dark times. It can take you on a magical journey to a faraway land filled with fun and dangers. There are few minor hiccups, but the game is still really good.
  80. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a great adventure that's great to play. The colorful design brings this 3D Kirby adventure to life, while additions like the mouthful powers add are a fun new twist to the gameplay. It's a shame the co-op is a bit poor due to player 2 not getting the full range of powers. Nonetheless, this is a Kirby game that is worth your time.

Kirby has had its first firm step into three-dimensional platform adventures with The Forgotten Land. It delivers remarkably well on everything it sets out to do, although it also has room for improvement in all of its areas.
  82. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Lost Land is a very successful game, undermined by a disarming ease and a skimpy longevity for those not interested in its secrets. However, leaving them out would be a great shame, because the research greatly enhances a level design that is only apparently linear thanks to that disruptive creativity that Hal Laboratory masters like few developers.
  83. Kirby and the Forgotten Land has managed to be one of the most enjoyable action, platform games I've played recently. I can even say that it has become one of the best Kirby games with its theme and gameplay dynamics.
  84. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Lost Land is one of the best games in Kirby's history. The renewal is limited, but everything works well and there is a desire to feel important and to live a "real" adventure that has rarely been found in the story of the pink hero.
  85. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the fresh, new start the franchise deserved.
  86. Apr 18, 2022
Much bolder than its predecessors, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is one of the hero's best titles, on par with gems like Planet Robobot and Return to Dream Land, and one that inspires confidence in the franchise's future.
  87. Apr 18, 2022
It likely won’t win over those who have already explored Odyssey’s vast platforming landscapes, but this is an ideal first step for those entering the world of gaming – or for those who simply want a relaxed co-operative experience with a healthy sprinkling of Nintendo magic.
  88. Apr 15, 2022
Kirby and the forgotten land' is a shot of pure fun. A dose of merriment that can thaw even the most soured heart. It is a moment of carefree enjoyment, perhaps a little too carefree thanks to the low difficulty.
  89. Apr 14, 2022
After years of always feeling like he's never quite reached his potential, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the sort of series-defining triumph worthy of Nintendo's flagship blob. Kirby finally has his Super Mario Galaxy, his Sonic Mania, his Star Fox 64. And I for one, am delighted by that.

It’s a solid journey to the Forgotten Land overall, and one that’s filled with mystery and enjoyment. Kirby’s 3D translation isn’t the most challenging game you’ll play this year. But boy, is it fun.
  91. Apr 11, 2022
If you’re looking for a sliver of joy in bleak times, Nintendo always delivers.
  92. Apr 7, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a delightful adventure with clever level design and enjoyable gameplay. The new mouthful mode works surprisingly well and adds a great deal of variety. It’s a shame that the low difficulty makes parts of the adventure somewhat forgettable, but overall - this is one of the best 3D-platformers since Super Mario Odyssey.
  93. Apr 6, 2022
A good game. After initial skepticism because of the staid level layout in many places, I finally put Kirby and the Forgotten Land back on the shelf with a good feeling: In over 35 hours I elicited all the secrets from the cheerfully colorful adventure - and that kept me going until the end gives joy. However, the story is also a bit too stupid for a simple jump'n'run and I didn't like the visual design of many bosses.
  94. Apr 6, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land marks the 30th anniversary of the ever-hungry pink squishy, proving itself a reliably safe choice for entertaining, all-ages 3D platforming in the classic Nintendo style.
  95. Apr 5, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land does pretty much everything it needs to as the pink puffball’s first 3D adventure. Clever level design and the appropriately named Mouthful Mode show that Kirby’s floating, sucking ways can work in a 3D space. Forgotten Land might not reach the highest heights of Nintendo’s other first-party adventures, but it definitely shows that Kirby can hold his own in a three-dimensional arena.
  96. Apr 4, 2022
A great game filled with the cutest adventurer in the Nintendo Universe for the first time in 3D.
  97. Apr 4, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land being a super easy game is to be expected as a low difficulty is really one of the Kirby franchise's defining traits, but that, combined with how short it is, may leave some fans feeling somewhat unsatisfied. However, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a consistently entertaining, adorable, and clever little 3D platformer while it lasts, and it even has some surprising Kirby lore revelations thrown in for good measure. Despite its short length, Kirby and the Forgotten Land marks yet another must-play Switch exclusive, especially for fans of the franchise.
  98. Apr 3, 2022
As cute as ever, Kirby successfully enters his first real 3D world. Clearly inspired by Mario's latest adventures, the little pink ball is not lacking in personality. Too bad, however, that the areas are less open than expected and prevents the game from really getting closer to a Super Mario Odyssey. Yes, the game calls for a little more exploration, but it's still pretty minor in the end. In fact, the gameplay does not change radically from previous Kirbys, even if it is difficult not to rejoice in certain captivating passages.
  99. Apr 1, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is, like most games starring Kirby, thoroughly pleasant. It feels wonderful to play, offering all sorts of rewards for exploring and interacting with its world. I also feel like out of all his adventures, this is the one in which all of the areas fit together best into a cohesive world. It’s also quite well-balanced! I do wish some additional series staples showed up and that Waddle Dee Town did more to encourage me to hang around. But it is generally lovely.
  100. Apr 1, 2022
If you’re looking for a cute, fun game or need a palate cleanser from difficult titles like Sifu and Elden Ring, then Kirby and the Forgotten Land came at the perfect time.
  101. Mar 28, 2022
In relying on tried-and-true platforming, developer HAL Laboratory has been given sufficient rope to make a wacky and weird little gem of a game, one that’s extremely charming, warm and approachable for everyone. It doesn’t quite tread new ground, but its slick gameplay and sense of oddness makes it a fascinating and engaging platformer that really makes you wonder why it took so long for Kirby to journey through the 3D realm.

Those who've never understood the appeal of Kirby are unlikely to be convinced by his move into 3D. But otherwise this compact, imaginative adventure is a low-key triumph, a work of great craft and wit that, unlike its lead, doesn't bite off more than it can chew. And it only leaves you hungry for more. [Issue#370, p.110]
  103. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is another saccharine sweet bundle of joy for the Switch, but it’s also the perfect antidote to years of doom and gloom in the real world and video games, presenting a compelling version of the apocalypse that actually seems… pretty okay.
  104. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a truly magical game that amounts to what could be the best franchise entry in decades. Even if its level themes and puzzle elements call back to concepts longtime fans will have seen before, the execution is charming and polished to an absolute shine. The oddities of Mouthful Mode alone are well worth the price of admission. If you can overlook linear levels and occasionally forced backtracking, this might be one of the best games of 2022 so far.
  105. Mar 23, 2022
You will not be disappointed with Kirby and the Forgotten Land, as it is so surprising and original in the variety of challenges whilst being surprisingly fun. Sadly, it is not particularly competent in co-op but has various secondary objectives and repetition value because you will be incentivized to repeat the challenges in order to save all the Waddle Dee. Just avoid the obsession to pursue all the collectible figurines, it’s a trap!
  106. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a creative and diverse 3D platformer with an adorable hero and a beautiful audiovisual presentation that suits any age group. But Kirby's new adventure does not only maintain the typical strengths of the series and transforms them successfully into the third dimension. It also retains the low degree of difficulty, what makes it more accessible, but demands too little from advanced players.
  107. Mar 23, 2022
In evaluating Kirby and the Lost Land, it's important to pinpoint the kind of audience that HAL Laboratory's latest effort might target. The most hardcore users, those who, to be clear, strip every corner of the works of the Big N from A to Z, risk finding themselves in the presence of an adventure that is decidedly less challenging than expected: the pace of the new Kirby is a bit mechanical, and its relaxing linearity could even almost bore you - also because we are not at all in front of the Mario Odyssey emulator that many already anticipated. On the contrary, it will be difficult at the same time to hold back the sincere enthusiasm of a group of less experienced and demanding players, who will have the opportunity to experience a memorable journey in the company of an adult, discovering all the magic of a great Nintendo branded production.
  108. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a very successful translation of the spirit of the series to three-dimensional environments. A relaxed experience that shifts away from tension to focus on rhythm, and that climbs nicely to reach the epic level to which we are accustomed in the franchise's titles. Beautiful worlds, a soundtrack that makes it almost impossible to stand still, and many ideas to make surprise a constant. A remarkable videogame that will undoubtedly serve as a basis for the future of the franchise.
  109. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is an absolute joy to play. The dozens of copy abilities keep combat engaging right to the end, while the focus on collectables and puzzles makes up for the lack of intricate platforming. The low difficulty may put off older players looking for a challenge, and it isn’t quite as ambitious as the likes of Mario and Zelda, but this is still a thoroughly enjoyable adventure that’s brimming with charm.
  110. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land may not be the revolution some were expecting, but it is still a great platform game. We love the new transformations, setting, and lots of extras and minigames.
  111. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a little safe at points to make it a proper all-timer, but I’m not sure that was ever the intention. It’s a game that is easy to like, can be played by everyone, and sits nicely alongside other Switch exclusives from Nintendo. If Kirby becoming a car is everything you want in life, good for you and welcome to your new favorite game of all time. For me, Kirby remains just below A-tier, which is still a great place to be. It’s often where some of the tastiest snacks are.
  112. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land successfully warps the series’ already fun mix of ability-based combat, platforming, and secret hunting into the third dimension. The post-apocalyptic setting may not be as thematically interesting as Planet Popstar, but it is still lovely and vibrant, with cleverly designed levels that make consistently smart use of Kirby’s abilities. Despite the change in perspective, Forgotten Land maintains most of what I love about classic Kirby games – and if the future means more 3D adventures for our hungry pink hero, I’d be more than happy to swallow them up.
  113. Mar 23, 2022
Given the open world craze sweeping the industry, I expected something along those lines with Forgotten Land. Instead, I got a charming new adventure taking measured steps outside the franchise's usual boundaries. This game proves you don't have to reinvent the wheel, so long as you're adding some sweet rims. While the new mechanics are cool, I also appreciate the way old systems have been refreshed. And while the challenge level felt toothless at first, things managed to heat up in the end. In fact, the game is as tough as you need it to be, from start to finish. If you've been looking for something fresh from Kirby, you're in luck. Kirby and the Forgotten Land has some delightful surprises in store.
  114. Mar 23, 2022
Even with its repetitive late game, I still enjoyed just about every second of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. In the game’s opening sequence, Kirby swallows a car and rides down a highway as a pop tune plays. In one shot, he’s cruising against the clear blue sky as some seagulls fly by his window. That’s how I felt whenever I booted it up: Head empty, soaking in the sunshine, not a care in the world.
  115. Mar 23, 2022
The most ambitious Kirby adventure so far represents the long-awaited and very successful first trip of the pink Nintendo mascot into real 3D space. Everything you expect from a Kirby game is enriched with a couple of new features and designs borrowed from the Mario Odyssey, it's just a pity that Forgotten Land doesn't work so smoothly.
  116. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the series' first real step into 3D action, and the game deftly makes the transition with its many challenges and secrets. However, there's less ambition on display than you might expect.
  117. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a delightfully delectable game – Kirby eats what he wants and takes you along for a short and sweet ride. The rare blend of linear levels following 2D guidelines, played in 3D, suits Kirby as well, if not better than, the Mario games that will draw comparisons.
  118. Mar 23, 2022
Unless you’re aiming to find every Waddle Dee and complete every secret objective, Kirby and the Forgotten Land won’t challenge you, but it sure as hell will keep you smiling. Most of all, it proves that Kirby works remarkably well in 3D and cements itself as the next big thing for the pink puffball. I don’t want to see him limited to just moving left and right ever again.
  119. Mar 23, 2022
The platforming won’t give Mario any restless nights, but the exuberant creativity around it makes for a bold, buoyant adventure.
  120. Apr 11, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land might not redefine the genre, but it's still a solid 3D platformer with a great gimmick. Kirby's duplication ability makes for some great gameplay and the much-anticipated Mouthful Mode doesn't disappoint. It's still lacking in some areas, but there's plenty of enjoyment to be had.
  121. Mar 28, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s simplicity is its greatest asset as well as its greatest weakness. It makes it a fun and simple platformer filled with great copy abilities and a drive to work towards upgrading them all into cooler and more deadly versions. But it won’t likely have the staying power of some of the franchise’s earlier entries either. It’s a AAA Switch game though made by Nintendo, so surely it’s fun and will have its fans nonetheless.
  122. Mar 23, 2022
This is essentially a Kirby platformer as you are used to, but more beautiful, more atmospheric and with some subtle innovations that make the experience interesting again. As long as you don't rush through it too quickly!
  123. Mar 23, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten World is one of the most enjoyable Kirby games yet. The magical three-dimensional game world, countless skills and funny Mouthvol shapes keep you entertained. Don't expect deep combat or challenging platforming, though - the focus is purely on carefree fun.
  124. Mar 23, 2022
While a mostly fun experience, Kirby and the Forgotten Land definitely forgets a lot of the things that make the pink puffball’s games so unique.
  125. May 3, 2022
A game aimed solely at children and their parents, nothing more and nothing less. A bit of good fun if you’re feeling playful but not nearly as impressive as other Nintendo masterpieces of this era.
  126. Apr 4, 2022
An elegant and polished move to 3D for Kirby. It's generous game but far too systemic and easy though.
  127. Mar 31, 2022
The Forgotten Land may not nail the world-building or plotting, but it’s not snoozing when it comes to Kirby’s transformations.
  128. Mar 23, 2022
If you like 3D platformers from Nintendo, give Forgotten Land a chance. It will keep you entertained for a few nights, even if not everything works as it should. The basic concept and mechanics are there, but the sequel needs to expand and improve them.
  129. Mar 23, 2022
One of the best Kirby games ever made and while the formula hasn’t changed as much as it first seems it’s also one of the most enjoyable co-op titles of recent years.
  130. Mar 23, 2022
At any rate, what’s here is fun and it’s Nintendo and there’s co-op for families or friends, but it’s all just so incredibly lite-on. And I say this with full appreciation and love of the likes of Super Mario Odyssey and Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Yoshi’s Crafted World -- there’s no challenge outside of 100% collection of items and in beating Treasure Road times, the rest is simply a cakewalk, and unfortunately all the bad doggo Awoofys in the game can’t make me think otherwise.
  131. Aug 11, 2022
Kirby and the Forgotten Land switches up its traditional 2D side-scrolling gameplay to open 3D environments for an enjoyable platformer that poses little challenge and at times can feel underwhelming, even if its side-content is of a high quality.
  132. Apr 6, 2022
Look, if the Telegraph’s scoring policy would allow me to give extra points for cuteness, this game would be our highest rated game ever. I really mean that. Nothing else I’ve played comes close. Kirby makes the characters of Animal Crossing look about as appealing as the beasts from the most recent Resident Evil title. But The Forgotten Land feels like candyfloss, all sweetness but not enough substance. Kirby is one of Nintendo’s quirkiest and most charming characters, but he deserves better than a reheated take on one of his big brother Mario’s most forgettable outings.

It's definitely one of the best Kirby games ever made. The game design is clever and it has a lot of variety both for veterans and less experienced players.[Recommended]
  2. Mar 23, 2022
Only near the end does the game crank up the difficulty substantially, mainly by rehashing old content with a few more enemies and fewer health items thrown in. At that point, though, you'll have upgraded Kirby's health and power, too. By the time I was refighting a bunch of old bosses, now with higher health bars, I felt like I was just going through the motions...But Kirby games have never been about mechanical challenge. Players come to these titles for a lighthearted romp where Kirby's ever-changing abilities provide a fun and dynamic diversion. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is more of the same, providing a smooth platforming experience that goes down so easy, you'll barely even notice you swallowed it.

Kirby's long anticipated move to 3D platforming sees the series step up to a new level of invention and wonder. [Eurogamer Recommended]
  4. Apr 21, 2022
From its rapture beginnings to its M. Night Shyamalan-like twist ending, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a shining example that Kirby warrants his lion’s share of open-world treatment alongside other Nintendo properties like Legend of Zelda and Mario.
  5. Mar 23, 2022
Every time Kirby and the Forgotten Land showed me something new, I loved it. I smiled from ear to ear the first time I watched Kirby become a traffic cone, or throw his gob over a water tower. I loved that opening moment in each new area where I could run around the overworld and get peeks into the new areas I’d be venturing into. The cutscenes are gorgeous, and watching Kirby and friends take a nap in his little house is adorable (as it always is). But Kirby and the Forgotten Land burns too brightly, too soon, and that initial joy was hard to recall by the time the credits rolled.
  6. Mar 23, 2022
There’s a cotton candy allegory to be drawn here. Much like the carnival confection, Kirby is fluffy, cute, pink, and very sweet. It looks attractive and is so very fun to eat but the minute you put it in your mouth it dissolves. Gone so quickly, you barely noticed it was there. That’s what it’s like playing Kirby and The Forgotten Land; fun for the moment, but lacking any real substance. And that’s okay! Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s surgically deployed cuteness is more than enough to outstrip its relative emptiness.
  7. Mar 27, 2022
Importantly, picking a difficulty is not a binary and permanent choice. You can swap between these modes at any time, for any reason, within the same save. Nothing changes except how the game handles health and currency distribution. (You get plenty of coins. It’s fine.) When you finish a stage on the easier mode, the game doesn’t brand it with an “easy” tag, like a badge of shame that you need to overcome another time. You beat the level! Hooray! This is fantastic, because it means my daughter and I can make progress in different ways.

While I don't think Kirby ATFL is the most groundbreaking title in games, I think this is THE Kirby game to play!

It really brings Kirby to a whole new level of greatness that wasn't really experienced in past titles. The copy abilities are especially interesting to see in 3D and act like new abilities. I also love the new locations and characters they introduced into the game. Oftentimes, Nintendo can be very stiff when it comes to adding brand new characters into a series (Looking at you, modern Paper Mario...) But to see new characters here is seriously great and I look forward to getting attached to them.

The town aspect is also brilliant. It serves as a hub world and it's just incredible to just chill out in the village. Overall, this game is like a Kirby game but now in 3D so expect the typical stuff while adding a lot of new elements. It's probably the most refreshing Kirby game in a long time and is a must-play on Switch if you love Kirby or love 3D platformers.
