    WELCOME TO VOLTA-X

The Volta Grand Prix is the world's preeminent robot combat sport, where teams from around the globe compete for the championship. Your ragtag team of misfits is destined for greatness as they outwit, out-customize, and out-strategize all opponents.

As the team joins the upper echelon of robot technology and competition, the team learns there's more to the life of robot pilots than competing against each other.

    ABOUT THE GAME

Volta-X is a new strategy game where you take on opponents in intense Robot battles. Face off against other players worldwide as you climb the ranks and uncover the dark secrets of Volta-X in gripping story battles.

In battle you'll control more than just your Robot's moves, you'll also direct your crew members to run from room to room making repairs, putting out fires, and activating the weaponry to blast your opponents into smithereens. To get the most out of your crew, you'll need to plan ahead and think fast!

In base-building mode, you'll get to interact with your crew members outside of the arena. Learn their backstory and build the rooms that make them happy so they can train up.

When you have a team pumped for victory, construct a lab to research new tech and an armory to build new weapons you can take into battle. With nearly endless combinations of Robot Upgrades, the dream of designing your own battle bot has arrived!

The base management is a little inconsequential, the interface has some clutter, and the persistent online connection requirement will be a wall for some, but none of that changes the fact that Volta-X is an outstanding strategic combat experience. Building new loadouts and testing new strategies is addicting and delightful, and a perfect online experience means there is tremendous replay value if you have a friend with the game or if the PvP scene continues to grow.

If you enjoy playing Volta-X online in the main mode, you’re likely to enjoy the Metaverse update. It’s offline for you to play when you want and practice with the various Voltas.

Volta-X has its enjoyable moments and provides a decent strategy experience with a fair level of difficulty. Since I like to take my Nintendo Switch with me when I head out, I do wish the offline mode had more content but nothing’s stopping me from playing this when I am home. Even though the story may not have been the wow factor, I can feel a lot of love was poured into the game, and this is evident in the smooth controls, colorful designs, and of course, the webcomic. Though battles can feel repetitive after a while, its intuitive controls make it easy to put down and pick back up the next day, and Volta-X is enjoyable enough for you to want to do so.

Volta-X manages to be a competent robot fighter, full of unique systems, and a design that will surely excite lovers of classic kaiju media. Its pacing makes it difficult to engage in its initial offerings entirely, but it ends up shaping into an enjoyable real-time strategy combat game. Through its blending of interactive team management features and one vs. one mech battles, I’d say Volta-X is worth checking out, at least for a few rounds.

Volta-X can’t be played without an active online connection. Forget about taking it on the bus or anywhere that the Switch can’t stay connected. Even putting it in rest mode for a minute or two will drop the connection, and along with this comes increased battery usage — my playtime between charges was notably reduced. This laundry list of issues breaks my heart, because Volta-X has a great concept and could have easily been a killer eight-to-ten-hour adventure filled with lasers, rocket-powered fists and awesome explosions. Instead, the experience is brought down by stretching it into the sort of neverending online game-as-service that it isn’t suited for. Time to take this ‘bot offline and reboot.

The art and music are phenomenal. I'm new to it... it's a bit confusing and theres a learning curve. But if you've played strategy games... ones where you have to control the headquarters, characters, the battle, etc? Kinda like xcom... but the battles are real time, not turn based. You're only controlling a giant mech during battle but it has 3 characters per mech needing to move around and create damage, avoid damage and fix damage all at the same time. It took some getting used for me but it's a lot of fun. Expand
