Mankind Divided is a wonderful, powerful game and a great addition to the Deus Ex mythos with rich, fully built characters and an amazingly immersive world. If it wasn’t for the many missteps that the marketing department took, you would probably have preordered this already.
A great beginning for the new Deus Ex Universe, and a big improvement from Human Revolution, due to the new powers, the impressive amount of approaches and the amazing narrative background. It's a dark, mature and finely crafted game, that Deus Ex fans won't forget for a while.
Late to the party- but better late than never. The interesting thing, is how relevant this game is in 2024 vs when it came out in 2016. Played through on my Series X. Picked it up preowned at a game store for $8. Best $8 I’ve ever spent on a game. Keep in mind this is an 8 year game when looking at pros and cons.
Pros-
Intuitive controls. Game is smooth and controls are smooth too. learning curve not bad at all.
Graphics. I doubt there was a Series X patch for this game- but you can’t tell. This game looksphenomenal.
Story. Deep and compelling. It has you not knowing who to trust from the rip like a Deus Ex game should be. Controversial takes I doubt any game today would have the courage to try.
Memorable. I’ll miss this one. I have so much respect for the devs on this one. The credits were so heart warming, seeing all the pictures of the devs and individuals working on this project. Please if you guys are still around- we want more Deus Ex and the world NEEDS more Deus Ex. You guys tell a story that really does open peoples eyes and have them questioning everything by the end of the day.
Edit: I tried this game after the snooze fest that is Cyberpunk 2077. I must say- I think this one hit home a bit harder than that one did.
This game is so good that made me play the first one too. The story is not THAT complex but has some great parts. The game really shines in the gameplay and its imersive world. Everything looks alive and makes you curious to know every corner of the city. The skill progression makes you think before upgrading, cause every point must be used wisely. The gameplay is very good and you can adapt depending your game style. Great game!
That you can approach each problem posed in so many distinct and satisfying ways is this series’ continued triumph. If you’re new to the Deus Ex games, but familiar with Arkane’s Dishonored, you’ll feel right at home (by way of a few centuries of forward thrust). And if you’re arriving in the know from 2011 prequel Human Revolution, you’ll find a more resonant and refined continuation of its principles—exploration, cyber-puzzling, self-augmentation, story-altering dialogue, and action or stealth approaches—bolstered by less foolish enemies, smarter storytelling and far more robust combat.
Overall, Deus Ex is perhaps less ambitious in its storytelling than its hot button ads might suggest, but is still an exemplary example of open-ended problem solving gameplay.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided builds and improves on its predecessor in every way. More freedom of choice, better versatility in the environments and a more balanced experience. And breach adds a fun, arcade-like and action-packed experience to the game.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is the epitome of the phrase, one step forward, two steps back. I hate comparing it to Human Revolution as it was something special, but Mankind Divided feels like an underwhelming, repackaged experience.
Just finished the game for the third time! IN 2023!!! All that Cyberpunk talk made me really nostalgic about the Adam Jensen story. Played it on my PS5 and it still a beautiful and rich game even by today’s standards. Great atmosphere, really deep and engaging side quests that are expanding the main story, great mechanics and choices that suits any play style you’d want! I wish we had the third game by this time… but I guess we will have to say goodbye for a while for this franchise.
This game is good, it's just not what I've expected. Every aspect of it felt like a downgrade, compared to the previous part.
Locations? Well, there is... one? You will go to 3 missions on different maps, but they're rather small. And the main one, Prague, just didn't work well for this futuristic setting. They've added a lot of tunnels, explorable buildings, etc, but the setting just didn't cut it. It doesn't look memorable. I wish they used China, or the US like in the previous deus ex, which worked so much better.
Stealth? It's all about stealth. There's a ton of skills, perks, hiding spots and vents. Any mission can be beaten without firing even 1 bullet. And, at the same time, they've nerfed it by adding multiple non-stealth attack skills. The moment you stop hiding, the game becomes your generic middle of the road FPS.
Hacking? It's there, it's represented by minigame, it's fun. On the same time, it's mostly useless. While in the previous game there were a lot of high tech stuff like turrets and robots for you to hack and use, in this one there are about 5 hackable robots in the whole game.
Plot? Well, I've completed a few boring intro missions, did a few side quests. The moment things started to get interesting- first bossfight, first conspiracy, the moment I expected to finally get out of Prague and continue to the next location... the credits appeared.
1 city. 1 boss. About 20 missions. I guess I could have beaten the game in like 3 hours or less. Compared to the previous game, it felt more like a demo version.
Oh, and the game is in awful state. It's still buggy- they've never even fixed random crashes. In some places it just lags horribly, even on modern hardware.
All in all, I did enjoy what felt like an inferior laggy demo of a deus ex human revolution.
Took a while to get to this and gotta say I'm pleasantly suprised. The game has issues mostly being related to the convoluted and mediocre story, the weak gunplay and uslessness of credits, but outside of that this is a really solid stealth sandbox game. There are so many routes and options to approach missions and a great sense of accomplishment and progression when you find a hidden vent or manage to slip away just in time.
The upgrades are all really fun and feel useful and honestly beat Cyberpunk 2077's augments in almost every aspect, all though levelling can feel a little slow at times. Honestly prefer this too the mess Cyberpunk is, and if you're looking for a more polished and focused Cyberpunk experience you honestly can't go wrong with this even with it's flaws.
The game's main theme is a "racial" conflict between natural people and people augmented with software and hardware implants. The game tries to make you to sympathize with the oppressed augmented people but the game fails ultimately to do so. What it doesn't fail to do, is to be racist to Czechs (Mankind Divided is set in near future Prague, Czechia). Everything is wrong. Pronunciation is laughable. Literally every poster or sign has insane typos, grammar errors, non-sensical syntax, word by word google translations. The language is so bad even scam ads have better Czech. Local names, surnames and proper nouns make no sense. "Czech" people have "Russian" accent. Even things like license plates, political system of Czechia or landscape don't resemble Czechia at all.
The developers didn't give a single microscopic fůck to make it look decent. I know most people won't notice a thing but why set the game in Prague then?
Other than that, the game is quite good. I like that you can accomplish your objectives various ways (many paths, options, stealth vs loud approach, skills, etc.) The game also provides a lot of optional dialogue and side missions done well.
But the poor language was so omnipresent in the game there was no chance not to see it. And it damaged my experience severely.
Garbage. Gameplay is hardcore, but loading times are ridiculous. Stealth abilities are useless due to limited energy, and when you fail you get punished by 40 seconds of a dull loading screen. The only way to play is a GoW-style shooter. Except GoW is better at it.
SummaryThe action of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided takes place in 2029, a couple of years after the events of Human Revolution and the infamous ‘Aug Incident’ in Panchaea that resulted in the deaths of millions at the hands of those who had installed augmentations. This event has caused a massive divide between those who have augmentations and those...
