For Honor is a game that I am not even close to finishing with. Its campaign is big enough to not feel tacked on, but the draw of the multiplayer action keeps dragging me away from finishing it. I can feel my skills improving after every round because it’s a new way to play against other players and that deserves highlighting in a highly saturated section of the market.

For Honor offers up one of the most visceral multiplayer experiences in video games. The single player campaign is a nice diversion, but won't satisfy those seeking a full experience. Once you hit multiplayer though, you'll be hooked and finding time for other video games will be the real problem.

For Honor is a real surprise. In terms of gameplay mechanics it’s top-notch, visually it’s excellent, and there’s a decent if fairly formulaic campaign to play through. It’s in For Honor’s multifaceted multiplayer, however, where Ubisoft has has struck gold. Testing your combat knowledge against real players, either in one-on-one duels or in large conquest-style battles, is both thrilling and unique in the action genre.

If For Honor were a game that [] didn’t rely so heavily on its internet connection, I could rave about it for hours. It is beautiful. The move sets for each character are well thought out and balanced, meaning people who put in enough effort will succeed with any of the available heroes. The campaign offers an interesting enough solo experience that lets people gradually face greater challenges. The multiplayer is extraordinary, when it’s working properly. It’s just that Ubisoft has once again not anticipated the needs of a game such as this. I feel like peer-to-peer wasn’t the right system for such a game, and that it would have been better for everyone if this had been a client-server game.

For Honor does a great job trying to find a new way of telling a very old and very familiar story. It accomplishes so much that it does provide an entertaining way to push you through the repetition of a hack and slash game. However, when you least expect it, you get impaled right through the heart by a broken multiplayer experience where the fragments of microtransactions and more splinter through the game, and while the blow isn't fatal now, if the connection issues aren't addressed, it will be.

It’s a frustrating reality, but one Ubisoft is already working diligently on a fix for. Like Siege, For Honor is in the beginning stages of becoming something truly unique and brilliant. If you’ve ever struggled to get into fighting games, are eager for a new multiplayer game to try your hand at, or are simply interested in what happens when Ubisoft diverts its resources out of populating open worlds with content and into an experience that thrives because of its nuanced design, then try For Honor – you won’t regret it.

Fun in furious bursts, Ubisoft's scrapper is simply too one-note to honour its potential. [April 2017, p.86]

    For Honor!

This is one of the few games where you can completely edit your heroes almost entirely from head to toe, with different stats and looks. Crazy combos, matching gear stats to your playstyle, it's similar to the Dark Souls series in a way. Although I have to say I didn't really like the forgettable (in my eyes) campaign that much, For Honor's multiplayer really makes up for it. Controls are hard to learn, but once you have it all figured out, the fun factor is raised immensely. I'd recommend it to those who are looking for a challenge. Expand

I know Ubisoft has a reputation for poor online matchmaking but this is much worse and even one month in the problems seem worse. When people lose and they quit the game it makes the game bug at least half the time and you don't get the much needed experience or the win. I have a hard time completing half my games so I will need to give it a 6 since without its online feature functioning properly, it loses much value. Expand

For Honor has a really solid combat system, it's simple yet complex at the same time. You've probably seen gameplay and know how it works so I wont drag on this part, but it's a great combat system. The game also has 12 different heroes to choose from, all with unique abilities and cosmetic stuff like executions. I would NOT recommend this game if you're going to play it for the singleplayer. This game was meant for multiplayer and that's where it shines. The 1v1, 2v2, and 4v4 deathmatch modes are fun, but unfortunately the main mode, Dominion, is lackluster. The matches in Dominion are just chaos. You can't engage in a 1v1 duel (which is where the game is at its best) without getting interrupted with the waves of AI or other players. The other solely combat focused modes are fantastic though, and let you have concentrated battles with real opponents. The 4v4 elimination mode spawns each player in with an enemy and they have to duel it out before going to help their friends. After all the bloodshed the last team standing wins. It's a very fun mode and makes 4v4 matches actually playable without all the annoying AI crap. 1v1s are also fun and let the player focus solely on 1 opponent.

Now the bad: The servers are horrendous. It's impossible to find a game. Rainbow Six Siege had this same issue when it released, but For Honor has it much worse. I've probably only PLAYED the game for a little over an hour, the rest of the time has been just waiting to join a match. Sometimes the matchmaking works. Sometimes being 10% of the time. 90% of the time you wont find a game. I legit pulled out my phone and watched youtube for over an hour and never found a game. It's not my internet either, most games work just fine. I can't believe Ubisoft would release the game in this state.

For Honor could have been a 7 or 8 out of 10, but considering I payed 60 bucks to stare at a loading screen for 5 hours I can't recommend it. Wait for them to fix the servers before making a purchase.
Maybe that wasn't very short or sweet, but whatever. The game needs to be fixed.

I am giving this game a low rating for 3 reasons.

First off peer to peer is one of the worst things to bring into this century and they still did that. Not only did they do that they also had dedicated servers during the beta then took them away to save money.
Second. They need to implement a ranking system. Once you get high enough gear score there is no insensitive to keep playing. Give players a reason to keep playing.
Third. Balance the characters. There are 3 characters that are dominating the game right now.

This game is good on the fact that it does have some really good move combos that you have to learn and know how to dodge. You also have to know how the other characters work to know how to counter them. The graphics are pretty good as well. This game is lucky I am giving it a 3 rating. If they fix those 3 main issues I would bring this rating up to 8.
