Developers from 343 Industries have finally caught the right way and with the fifth part they fixed the mistakes which they made in the previous installment. So they provide the players with an absolutely perfect and catchy campaign. [Issue#258]

Although the story feels less of an event, Halo 4's campaign is a thoroughly satisfying spectacle. [Dec 2015, p.64]

Halo 5: Guardians is a massive game that we intend to keep playing for the foreseeable future. There are parts that let us down, particularly the story, but it’s hard to feel too stung when there’s just so much fun to be had. Halo 5 has a lot to prove and it seems fully capable of doing just that. It’s a pleasure seeing the series in top form once again.

Halo 5: Guardians is an exciting Halo package, marred only by some questionable design decisions, like microtransactions and some shoddy friendly-AI in the campaign. It’s not a classic Halo, but 343 is moving in a good direction with the franchise.

The saving grace of this game is multiplayer.

With so much at stake, Halo 5 needed to be a new perfection of old triumphs, or a landscape-altering revolution. In terms of its campaign it falls short of both of these ideals. Online, however, 343 has taken more significant risks, of the sort that first convinced Apple and Microsoft to place bets on the series. Warzone, in particular, is a kind of bold design that we almost never see in expensive FPS game-making any more.

343 Industries made a terrific impression with their first dip into the franchise, but with a lackluster campaign and multiplayer that still needs tuning, Halo 5: Guardians makes them look like one-hit wonders.

Excellent story if you're into the Halo Universe. Amazing art. Perfect multiplayer. Probably the best game of the generation, but the onlyExcellent story if you're into the Halo Universe. Amazing art. Perfect multiplayer. Probably the best game of the generation, but the only detail is that... if don't know thing about the expanded universe, the story is going to be confusing and annoying. So please, if you want to enjoy the amazing campaign, (or if you're planning to review it) please... familiarize yourself with the backstory. Expand

Halo 5 is a masterpiece in design and execution. Moving and gunning mechanics are top-notch, Warzone is super addictive & the campaign is riveting. Even the UI is slick…you can really tell that 343i put a ton of love into this one. I’m already looking forward to all of the post-launch support coming our way. This is hands down the best FPS I have ever played. Expand

Dear 343, stop worrying about how to make a halo game and learn how to make a GAME. The only thing that matters is: is the game fun? TheDear 343, stop worrying about how to make a halo game and learn how to make a GAME. The only thing that matters is: is the game fun? The answer here is no. First up story: keep it simple and engage players with epic consequences. No one gives a f*** about Cortana! The story is messy, convoluted and boring, with cheesy forgettable characters. Second up gameplay: an improvement on halo 4 (yay) but ultimately still boring as well. All of your levels are just shooting galleries with no creativity. The promethian enemies are boring, which is not helped by the fact you have 3 types of guns for every tier which all do the same thing. Cut the number of guns and instead and make them more diverse to make battles more interesting. The second part to this is stop reusing old ideas! How many times do we need to blow up a reactor? Steal ideas (i.e. put your stamp on it) don't copy them. Multiple perspectives in halo 2 was fun because the covenant was an interesting enemy. Here no one cares about locke! We care about masterchief so let us play as him! Big mistake having no offline co-op as this made the game stand out. On top of that the music scores are pathetic! Take some money out of the graphics budget and pay a proper orchestra instead of this electronic crap with no character. Epic sound enhances the atmosphere of battles! So ultimately what happens when you have a weak story, boring missions, no offline co op and no atmosphere? A boring game that i can't even play with my friend! When it comes down to it, halo exists only to service its most die hard fans because there is nothing here for anyone else. Expand

No game types other thanHalo 5: Guardians now holds the record for smallest amount of content ever at the release of a game. No split screen. No game types other than campaign and multiplayer. No forge. None of the classic multiplayer game types that halo is known for.

The campaign is terrible and completely forgettable in every way imaginable. It is the most simplistic and dumbed down campaign in the series so far. It doesn't compare to that of Halo CE or Halo 3 in any way.

Multiplayer has maybe 4 or 5 gametypes that are worth playing, and most of the time they are so lopsided it basically cancels out anything positive about them. Warzone is so dull I often forget what the point of it is.

The menus in the game look like they were copy and pasted from the beta. Some people may not think this matters but I think it is representative of the problems this game has as a whole. Often when opening up the menus, it shows someone else's Spartan instead of your own. A minor glitch that happens way to often.
