Boomer shooters from indie developers have been quite successful lately and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun might be just what the genre needed right now. This throwback FPS has you mowing down countless hordes of Chaos cultists, mutants, and marines alike with a spectacular arsenal of weapons from the grimdark universe. It's the perfect game for fans of the franchise and those seeking an adrenaline-fueled journey through the grim future.
Whether you're a seasoned gamer who enjoys fast-paced shooting games like Doom, or a newcomer drawn to the Warhammer 40K IP, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is sure to deliver an exhilarating shoot 'em up experience.
When started, I have been playing for **** graphics and the play, both feel great. I like Warhammer universe but this game is a real fun, like Prodeus in 40k world.
Despite my complaints, I would happily blast through Warhammer 40k: Boltgun all over again. There may be moments of frustration, but it doesn’t undermine the sheer joy of ripping through fast-paced levels with weapons that gods fear and metal music in the background.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is an inspired production, fully consistent with the intention of bringing the brutality of the miniatures game imagery into a lead and blood boomer shooter. Dispensing death is the thing that works the most, thanks to a satisfying gameplay when it comes to pulling the trigger, regardless of the weapon in hand and the quantity and variety of enemies faced. The exploratory dimension weighs down the playful experience a bit, but when the time comes to reduce the enemies to shapeless red pulp, we think less about it.
Warhammer 40000: Boltgun is a nice retro FPS that takes elements from 1993's DOOM by making the fights more nervous and in a recent packaging, which makes it enjoyable to play. Nevertheless, you shouldn't ask too much of it, because basically, it's just about liquidating dozens of enemies in a succession of arenas. Only for the trigger-happy.
Really fun I have only played for couple of hours now but the graphics and gunplay looks great and feel great. I'm not even a 40k fan but this seemed fun and it was.
Boltgun is really a very fun game, an exceptional boomer shooter, and it's particularly satisfactory to gun down either heretics or ****'s really a game that puts **** aside and focuses on how to make an fps that is all about fun through excellent sound design and shooting mechanics. Still I don't believe that is a perfect game and I had my fair amount of issues with it which I would adore to see them resolved in a sequel and that would be just excellent. The enemy design is just superb no issues there, the level design it's always good, it starts a bit basic and it goes bad **** crazy by the end. However the game is not exactly good looking, the retro design is well appreciated and fitting but it doesn't justify the game looking a bit ugly at times. Then my first major issue is that you can really get lost in this game, while it's understandable that it tries to capture the old school magic, still it should have some kind of optional assistance because I got lost in this game more times that I can count. Finally the difficulty is really not exactly well optimized or balanced, while the game has a hard difficulty that was perfect for me for the most part, some of the encounters especially bosses or mini bosses were ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL to the point where I was begging for mercy. There are some accessibility options that can resolve this issue at any time but still it strips you out of the satisfaction of winning fair and square.
Really well-made shooter but doesn't do anything that makes it stand out. Everything it does do is really well made, but there's nothing to write home about in regards to other boomer shooters.
I have no idea why people keep comparing this game to doom(2016, or otherwise) or calling it "boomer shooter" other than that's the flavor of the month misnomer for getting 30 somethings to soy out over mediocre games.
Bullet sponge enemies with rpg health bars that require incremental weapon upgrades... boy that really takes me back.. to borderlands.
I'll pass.
