This is not the typical movie with big scares based on Jumpscares or very terrifying like "It" (2017), but the film achieves several disturbing moments which it achieves based on images and body sounds of bones, He also manages to get a bit of Mexican culture and that he has good performances (not excellent enough to win an Oscar, but they do everything with respect to their roles) and also manages to show that the Mexican cone and the horror can make good stories nowadays.
Something extra that I would like to mention is that it can remind you of other films about motherhood such as "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Babadook" since it also uses psychological horror (main genre of the film next to Body Terror)...
Of course, the film has some metaphors that one must investigate while watching it, which makes it very interesting ... I definitely recommend it a lot, especially to people who like horror that is not only commercial. 9/10
Ptt: The film can be somewhat uncomfortable because of the sounds of bones creaking even though it is not very loud either, and includes some nudity that does not exceed 2 min. of the total film, but that does not affect the experience of the film.
Examining the bone-breaking work that being a mother can be, Garza Cervera’s tale is most thrilling for the ways it refuses any tidy answers about a woman’s place and wallows (and finds plenty of terror) in the ambiguities therein.
Huesera may have needed more scares or a darker ending to push it over the top, but as is, it’s a thoughtful meditation on choice, love and the anguish of expectation, dressed in the clothing of a clear-eyed, anxious body horror.
The horrors of childbirth become entangled in a demonic subplot as Huesera fits neatly into the list of chilling pregnancy horror tales, but doesn’t add much new to it.
It's not until the last 10 minutes or so that this film becomes genuinely creepy, mainly because of the visuals and the atmosphere rather than what the story accomplishes.
Before that it's merely a game of tension and not a very effective one to be fair.
It wasn't a bad approach, but its results are nothing worth mentioning.
A movie about some crazy women. Nothing interesting happens in the movie until the end, it's really stupid. Is this supposed to be like a horror movie? it seemed to me more like some kind of psychological drama, terrible stupidity. Several times during the movie I wanted to turn this crap off and walk away. It's been a long time since I've seen such horrible and boring crap. The only thing that was positive about the film were the acting performances, they weren't bad at all with a few exceptions, but that certainly doesn't save the film. I think the 2/10 rating is just right, and that's just for the acting, otherwise I wouldn't even give the 2 stars. This movie never again, just boring, boring and boring. Waste of time. Just like it's a waste of time to write such a comment on such a movie, which is not even worth it to me. They do not recommend.
