Beneath the gore that ensues is a story about understanding.
Like a lot of topline Korean films, this prestige action thriller is a little too long at 137 minutes, but it’s consistently entertaining throughout, and quite well-suited given the length to being viewed on a streaming platform.

Parfois sur Netfloc, on tombe sur des trucs surprenants… dans le très bon sens du terme ! surtout lorsque ça vient de Corée du Sud, bien entendu… On connaît l’audace et/ou les plus ou moins facétieuses provocations du cinéma coréen ; on sait aussi que malgré tout, l’agenda wokiste de Netflop est toujours aux aguets, en embuscade…
On trouve donc un peu de de netwokerie ici (après tout, c’est un film produit par Netwoke) mais en quantité étonnamment faible… comparé à ce qu’on peut trouver dans le catalogue Netfailix par ailleurs, cela va sans dire. Mais je chipote, car ça reste assez vraisemblable, du moins, je le suppose !
Toujours est-il que c’est ici un mélange explosif entre un John Wick (Jane Wick plutôt…) et un Nikita (non pas le Rouge, notre Nikita à nous !… d’ailleurs, aux US, ils n’ont toujours pas compris, ils croyaient que Parillaud était la petite-fille de Khrouchtchev ! et qu’elle venait leur trouer le cul).
Sauf qu’ici, la super tueuse est incarnée par une athlétique milf qui doit élever seule sa fille, une ado chieuse qui fait chier (une ado, quoi). Du coup, un psychodrame de temps en temps un brin lourdaud s’invite dans le film assez régulièrement… Par ailleurs et cela étant lié sans doute, on peut regretter une ou deux longueurs sans qu’on s’ennuie pour autant, loin de là mais le film aurait gagné à durer un peu moins longtemps !
En outre, le sang en images de synthèse pue la daube mal faite comme dans tous les films d’action modernes d’ailleurs, y compris les John Wick… Mais pour le reste, c’est du très beau travail avec un réalisation solide qui reste claire (pas de cut, zoom & move ici), des comédiens qui donnent le meilleur d’eux-mêmes, notamment les comédiennes bien évidemment, dont l’héroïne impressionne dans tous les compartiments de son rôle de mère-poule tueuse à gages…
Enfin, bien que toujours spectaculaire dans l’action et sérieux dans ses enjeux, le film s’avère souvent drôle par ses nombreux moments sarcastiques mais sans jamais tomber dans la tarantinerie de bas étage, heureusement. Bref, une bien belle surprise de chez Netflou, grâce à l’inventivité coréenne !

Out of the hit-man movie list, this one is going to divide the loves and hates alike. The philosophical context weighs more than that of the action but it is justified in the best way, in particular by the opening sequence, and the climactic.

Aside from the mother-daughter relationship angle, this splashy, showy assassin picture doesn’t really cover any new ground. But the lack of imagination elsewhere is offset by some impressively slick tailoring – Boksoon really does dress to kill – and extravagantly athletic fight sequences.
Byun ultimately pulls too many punches, but Kill Boksoon remains impressive, if only for its unexpected sensitivity and considerable emotional range.
While the film doesn’t necessarily offer anything new for fans of the genre, Kill Boksoon is still a tremendously fun action-thriller that more than makes up for its formulaic blemishes with an abundance of superb set-pieces, engaging domestic drama and offbeat wit.
What this movie doesn’t have is “pace.”
Kill Boksoon, like its heroine, could do with learning that there’s more to life than being highly efficient in execution.
'Kill Boksoon' feels like a cross between 'John Wick,' 'Léon: The Professional,' and 'Kill Bill.' As with a lot of Korean crime films, expect a lot of gore and insane action sequences but also a duration that overstays its welcome before the 2-hour mark. Nevertheless, I appreciate the peaceful moments in which Boksoon, the protagonist, reflects on her life and the raising of her only child. Of course, the brutal scenes are also welcomed. The universe is a little too John Wick-esque with all those rules the assassins have to follow and how they're organized as a company/school, but, in the end, the film is highly entertaining and funny.

é inegável que tem estilo e um roteiro que pelo menos não é tão mirabolante quanto "Tudo", mas já deu de algumas suspensões da realidade que fica entre um multiverso capenga e um matrix da vida, né? Sem contar o melodrama familiar que aqui tem uma mão superpesada.
A história foca na agente Boksoon, trabalhando numa espécie de organização de matadores. Ela tem uma filha com a qual stabele uma complicada relação, mesmo por questões de segurança. O roteiro também tenta levar jovens para dentro da empresa, como a estagiária, tudo isso num roteiro meio cafona. Ao propositadamente falhar em uma missão, Boksoon se vê como uma párea dentro de sua própria organização, que preza pela excelência. Assim, para não provocar mais desrespeito e falta de credibilidade, a diretora decide por exterminar a mulher, mas claro que isso não será fácil.
O grande problema aqui é que a mistura profissional com pessoal não apenas não funcionou, mas arrasta o filme por mais de duas intermináveis horas e ainda quebra o ritmo. O começo por exemplo foi excelente, inclusive fazendo bom uso da jogada de câmera. Após isso, tornou-se burocrático e aborrecido, um clima de novela mexicana com perseguição nível B, daqueles filme de gângster do século passado.
O resultado final é um filme lotado de drama e pouca ação, e ainda cheio de previsibilidades e piadinhas fora do tom. O lado positivo a se destacar é que os atores parecem ter encarnado muito bem seu papel, conferindo alguma dignidade ao material, e uma ou outra cena inspirada da direção faz o enquadramento, as vezes, sair do lugar comum. Mas só às vezes. No geral, é cheio de clichês do gênero, uma mocinha quase tal qual um rambo com situações cheias de concessões.
Definitivamente as piadas são bobas (não pior que da Marvel), e nesse aqui fica meio deslocado, o filme tem um tom sério que não vai se sustentando, o excesso de diálogos com esse padrão mais risível tem o efeito de vergonha alheia.
Algo que gostei é que algumas cenas não poupam sangue. Há também um bom uso de câmera lenta. Em resumo, tentou ser um kill bill, e embora cheio de intenções, pesou a mão em alguns momentos, mas ao menos conseguiu fazer um filme assistível.

Kill Boksoon opens with a scene that sets the style and tone that will permeate most of the film, especially the conclusion of that same scene, and, as such, there isn't much to discover or be surprised by throughout, but I found the journey satisfyingly exhilarating and entertaining. With problems, of course, but it comes off better than many other South Korean films of the same size and caliber.
Hardly unusual or outstanding, nevertheless it manages with ease and a pertinent thrill to pull off its proposal, and that was good enough for me.
