This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before I begin, I just want to say if you don’t like M. Night movies, you might not like this one. I love nearly all of his movies. He’s my favorite director. I’m aware that some may not like his style, but I love it, even with ideas I’m not completely sure of from the trailer.

That brings me to the trailer for this film. When I saw the trailer for the first time, I was a little underwhelmed. I saw the elements of what an M. Night movie, but I felt like I was missing something. Ironically, what I found was that it wasn’t what was missing, it was everything that was there. It’s a simple concept that’s more horrifying to think about than to watch on screen — unless you jump into story head first. It starts quickly, so you have to choose to go with it from the beginning, but once you do go with it, there’s a lot of dread to be found. It’s classic M. Night writing as well, where it seems more like he’s writing a book than a movie and that’s what makes his movies the most interesting to me. Yes, this is adapted from a book, but M. Night’s writing style is paperback, maybe even a little comic-booky. Once you let yourself believe there are people in this world that can predict an apocalypse, everything falls into place, but you won’t be massaged into it. For better of for worse, this has been his style. And yes, you can say there’s a “twist” in the film, but I won’t spoil that. Make the choice.

Shyamalans best work in years and Dave Bautistas performance was exceptional. A genuinely tense thriller that had me on the edge of my seat and remained thought provoking hours after leaving the cinema

Some flashbacks and clunky M. Night dialogue hold back the tension, but Bautista continues to choose interesting projects. Mostly enjoyed this, Shyamalan’s best film since The Visit.

Dave Bautista stars as one of the strangers, who demands entry into Eric (Jonathan Groff) and Andrew's (Ben Aldridge) holiday home, along with their adopted daughter Wen (Kristen Cui). Despite their reluctance, the strangers eventually gain entry and explain to the family that they must sacrifice one of their own to save the rest of humanity. Through this taut and suspenseful home invasion thriller, Shyamalan creates an atmosphere of existential dread, as the family must decide whether or not to trust the strangers' motives. Adapted from Paul Tremblay's novel, Knock at the Cabin is a gripping, efficient picture with a captivating performance from Bautista.

In a psychological horror film set in the present day, we find an array of shots throughout the film that commend Shyamalan’s skill for tension and buildup, accompanied by unique angles of scenes and potentially symbolic, quicker shots. WhileIn a psychological horror film set in the present day, we find an array of shots throughout the film that commend Shyamalan’s skill for tension and buildup, accompanied by unique angles of scenes and potentially symbolic, quicker shots. While it’s not entirely concrete as to how this family was chosen for the events in the movie, the audience is left to decide on why what happens, happens. The answer to this question ultimately comes down to perception; the proof of the clashing viewpoints is vague enough for the viewers where it could really go either way. One thing that is clear in the entire film is that the power of manipulation and coercion is ever present throughout, which leads the audience to constantly doubt itself. Although this film has religious undertones, it certainly deals with psychological and emotional manipulation and how it can factor into some very intense and somewhat believable decision-making, possibly leaving its audience with some self-reflection, especially in a case where no matter what decision is made, it will not fully favor the one making it. One of the latest best films by M. Night shlamayan. Good scenery, characters and atmosphere just as its director knows how to do

Knock at the Cabin is M Night Shyamalan's latest thriller, and it's his usual forte. If you are a fan, you will be intrigued. Other viewers may be perplexed on what the fuss is all about, as many viewers just weren't there during Night's 'heyday'.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was a good and entertaining movie, for me the theme of the movie was cool and impressive, but one of the flaws of the movie in my opinion was the type of death of the four members of the group, which I think would have been more beautiful if each of them had died in a different way. Also, I'd like to beg the question, why does a Shyamalan movie always have to have some 'twist' to it? Sure, I expect the movie to give me food for thought but is there some secret surprising 'twist' to the story? I didn't get that impression from the trailers and the movie didn't seem to be suggesting one and I just enjoyed each moment for what it was. In the end, I was satisfied with the way it went, regardless of whether or not I already knew the end or guessed the end or didn't guess it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Doesn't make the top three of Shyamalan movies but its okay. There are some story points that bothered me, things that were ignored to steer the plot, but it still worked. I just don't like when obvious logical problems aren't worked out by characters, like why don't they just leave the TV on to see the ongoing coverage if they think the events are taped or rehearsed, etc. Stuff like that irks me. Otherwise the tension and acting were good. Entertaining. Expand
