Critic Reviews
Granted, you don't expect much from a movie like this: azure seas and honey-dripped sunsets, perhaps, a little titillation and a few wicked laughs. But Robert Steadman's photography lacks the imagination of Almendros' work on The Blue Lagoon, and the rare erotic moments are no match for the dumbness of Leslie Stevens' script. [03 Aug 1991, p.C3]
Jovovich and Krause are as photogenic and blandly naive as their predecessors, and their ultimate commingling is, if anything, even tamer than in the original. Veteran television-movie director William A. Graham and screenwriter Leslie Stevens have fashioned a 98-minute tropical vacation ad. [02 Aug 1991, p.B]
Return to the Blue Lagoon is just a lamer rehash of the 1980 movie, which starred Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins. And that ''classic'' actually was just a remake of the 1949 Jean Simmons version. Except that in the latest sequel, there isn't even the dopey innocence that was present in the Shields-Atkins saga. It's just dopey. [06 Aug 1991, p.4D]
