She keeps trying to make the viewers believe that the impeachment process against Dilma Rousseff, which was supported by more than 75%This film is not a documentary, but just a political pamphlet showing the partisan beliefs of the Director. She keeps trying to make the viewers believe that the impeachment process against Dilma Rousseff, which was supported by more than 75% of the Brazilian population, was illegitimate and “against the population’s will”; that the election of Bolsonaro with 54 Mi votes (against 44 Mi of this oponent) was not democratic. That Dilma was not the most unpopular, incompetent, corrupt and clueless person having occupied Brazilian presidency. Brazilian democracy is not on the edge, as Ms Petra tries to convince the viewers all the time, with her cheesy tirades and melodramatic soundtrack. In order to believe that, you have also to believe that there is only democracy when her political group is in power. Everything else is not valid.
There is a moment when Ms Petra shows the real non-democractic nature of former Brazilian President Lula and of herself, when whe asks him: “Do you have any regrets?”
Lula answsers: “I regret a lot of things, my dear. But my greatest regret is not having done more. Not having presented to Congres when I was President the new media regulations”.
Lula regrets not having started midia censorship, as it was his desire during his tenure, following the actions of his dicatators partners Maduro in Venezuela, Castro in Cuba and Ortega in Nicaragua. After watching Ms Petra’s politica pamphlet, my only feeling is to feel fortunate that Brazil escaped the hell prepared by Lula and Dilma for us Brazilians. Go to the trash of history both of you!

A tour de force through the coup that put Brasil on the road to fascism. Absolutely haunting movie.

A fascinating documentary on another country heading toward the road to perdition and the corruption between top government officials and the major companies that run the country.

Interesting, but for god sake, re-record the commentary without that slow, pitiful, whiny diction! It's so annoying. It's the content of the words, not the narrators ability to emote, that should impact.

Sadly, most foreigners are clueless about what really happens in Brazil. The said "documentary" was funded by one of the richest families who have participated in the recent corruption schemes.

Petra Costa is audacious and original. "The Edge of Democracy” is a punch in the stomach that opens wide the huge network of influence trafficking that haunts Brazil since its conception as a state. A bold synthesis of one of the most turbulent political periods in the nation's history, but shaped as a "letter of love" by Costa that hits the acidity, but errs in the obvious partiality (do not expect non-partisanship) coming from a very well-idealized project, which also stands out for its extensive footage of the imposing Brasilia and its architecturally well-planned buildings, and for the claustrophobia in the fervent crowds marching through the streets while the country is divided
