The lion king, the movie that needs no introduction. This movie is misunderstood by a lot of people. Some think its a kids movie and some might even think that it is a story about some random lions, but I know the truth. This movie is made to show the absolute beauty of nature and it does that with it’s award winning music, amazing 2d-animation and outstanding sound **** lets not forget how funny this movie is, I laugh out loud ever time I watch it. Characters like Timon, Pumba and Zazu make this movie less dark and fun to watch for all **** you still some how haven't watched The lion king yet then I think you should give this absolute classic from the Walt Disney animation studios a try.
It bears repeating that The Lion King is quite entertaining as children's fare goes these days. But Disney has established a standard so high on animated features that anything less than a classic leaves you feeling that something's missing.
Shakespearean in tone, epic in scope, it seems more appropriate for grown-ups than for kids. If truth be told, even for adults it is downright strange.
MY FAVORITE DISNEY MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!!! And for all the right reasons! Breathtaking animation, absolutely wonderful songs, truly unforgettable and lovable characters, fantastic music by Hans Zimmer, and an absolutely amazing story. I'll take this and the sequels over the dreadful remake any day.
Good, but most definitely overrated. Last time I saw it I was 5 years old, and now, having rewatched it, I realized the plot isn't that good. It merely pleads for sympathy together with a beautiful picture, but isn't motivated or complicated enough if you're older than 7. The whole episode of Simba's return and the fight is just awkward. Also, why would Scar be such a bad king? You can't deny he was clever and probably knew how to rule, while Simba didn't. Each move in the plot, and often even speeches were easilly guessable to me (and I didn't remember anything). Also, Kimba's plot base most probably defined the success of this one. The sequel imo shows that Disney couldn't make a good Lion King on their own.
Needless to say though, music and animation are awesome.
Funny how Disney and Pixar can make films and get praised for them. I mean, I love the songs - Hakuna Matata is my favourite - it's understandable though that they can say it's merely 'a coincidence' that this is similar to another animation and obtain a huge profit. It's unfair how companies like this can prey on the smaller ones for the sake of it. They can add these certain things to films, but I'm not saying that they're bad. I love how they can inject humour into animation, which I only really saw when Timon and Pumbaa were on the screen, and actually make the characters work, but this doesn't mean it's completely original. I don't think The Lion King can actually be given a higher score, because, although it did work, it didn't feel like they had done it themselves.
My wife and I decided to watch this ORIGINAL Lion King version after the remake got poorer reviews and after its cult status was additionally affirmed by multiple crossword puzzle references. We wound up shaking our heads afterwards, wondering what made it such a winner. The story is simplistic and violent, and some of the images seem awfully retro in their impact -- for example, all the good guys are a lovely light tawny shade while the villains are dark and, in one scene, the huge glowing eyes and teeth in the dark faces seem designed to make children afraid of African faces for life. The music was very so-so, the voice-acting generally good. There are many other movies I would want to see before trying this one again.
I had high hopes for this movie, but on all my viewings, I felt very disappointed. The film does not have much to offer, unlike other Disney masterpieces. I hope to have better viewings of this film in the future.
