I found it flawed but fascinating, and a no-fail showcase for Tina Fey’s real talents as a serious actress. Best of all, this movie is never boring for a single minute.
One of the smartest films of the year. It spells out "Quagmire." It's also the only film in which endorphins and the hippocampus are linked to the British19thC occupation of Aphganistan.
Excellent movie. No it,s not trying to be another Mash. It's a unique movie with tremendous acting and relevance to the mess we find ourselves in today...
It's a frequently funny film that comes packed with the thrills of real combat, with real consequences for the characters. But the basic premise does make one question its priorities.
True to its title, as well as its flawed but sympathetic protagonist, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is more confused than cynical or opportunistic. Its bewilderment is contagious, and ultimately endearing.
A movie like this doesn’t require 30 Rock’s joke density or silly streak, but it’s surprising that Fey and Carlock’s satirical eyes aren’t a little more alert.
The mild Islamophobia and highly questionable casting choices in the film call to mind other texting abbreviations, namely AYFKMWTS and GTFOOH. In the end, though, it's an armed-forces acronym dating back to World War II that best describes this dismal project: FUBAR.
Based on a true story, this is a thoroughly enjoyable and unique film, which chronicles the experiences of reporting from a war zone in a clever, insightful, and occasionally funny way. Fey is exceptional, and the performances are fantastic. The script is excellent, and the soundtrack is awesome. The pacing could have been a little faster, but it doesn't drag, and the cinematography is solid. The storyline is engaging and offers us a more nuanced commentary on the conflict in Afghanistan than other recent films, whilst avoiding cliches and sentimental 'Murica tropes, instead exploring a realistic and unabashed commentary on being a female correspondent in an exceptionallly hostile setting. Well worth your time. 8.77/10
The movie benefits from good performances between Martin Freeman and Tina Fey. The movie had a interesting story but never really takes really big risks. Also the movie had some laugh out loud moments too. I also wish they would of used Margot Robbie a bit more too. Maybe for the lead role. But overall decent enough
I expected a comedy and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot was certainly not that. The first half of the film attempted to be a comedy, but largely failed. It does not find its stride until the second half when it focuses on the serious effects of war on war reporters who are always risking their lives for the sake of a story. Here, the film is very dramatic and serious, yet works really well. I am not convinced it works too well with the first half of the film, but it really hits hard at times when you see the risks these people take for their craft. Tina Fey is very good here, as is Martin Freeman. The two of them have terrific chemistry and really draw you into the film. Additionally, the film is very much enjoyable. Even in the weaker first half, there are some very funny one-liners at times and then the serious take of the second half may be darker, but still has good takes on a middle aged woman trying to find herself in Kabul and in life. Plus, Fey is so charismatic, she remains endlessly watchable.
Unfortunately, the film does have many faults. It is not as funny as it should be and it tries to tackle too much in a limited time when it comes to the issues it raises. Additionally, it is pretty typical and hits all the notes of the middle aged person who is lost attempts to find themselves and meets weird people along the way narrative. That said, I did enjoy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. Somehow sweetly nostalgic with incredibly enjoyable characters, the film is very palatable and enjoyable, even if it is not always easy to watch due to its subject matter.
Tina Fey was adequate and even likeable in this deeply offensive movie. The war in Afghanistan re-imagined as a light entertainment with some blood for "serious credentials". Ugh.
it is a total crap movie .they only show muslims in bad image and opressing women and every bad thing they killed so many civilians and now they feel **** the actress **** another man after just breaking up
