John Ashley was born in Kansas City, Missouri on 12/25/1934 and passed away on 10/3/1997, aged 62. He was born with the name John Atchley and was adopted when he was just a few months old, never knowing his real parents. Raised in Oklahoma, Ashley attended Oklahoma State University and earned a B.A. in Economics. He got his first break in the movie industry when he made his way onto the set of the John Wayne film The Conqueror (1956), where Wayne directed Ashley towards television work, in the series Men of Annapolis (1957). In 1957 he won the lead male role in the film Dragstrip Girl after being spotted in the hallway waiting to pick up his girlfriend, who was also auditioning for a part in the film. This led to Ashley being an actor in a succession of films, notably the AIP Beach Party films. Later in his career, he produced television series such as The A-Team and Walker, Texas Ranger.
