Ward Bond

Biography: Ward Bond, born Wardell Edwin Bond on April 9, 1903, in Benkelman, Nebraska, became one of Hollywood's most prolific and well-respected actors. He attended the University of Southern California during the mid-1920s, where he developed a life-long friendship with a football teammate named Marion Morrison, better known as John Wayne. Director John Ford cast Bond in Salute in 1929, the first of more than 200 motion pictures in which Bond had a supporting role. He and Ford worked together on 25 more films during their careers, and Bond appeared in 16 of John Wayne's movies, including, The Quiet Man (1952), Operation Pacific (1951) and Fort Apache (1948). From 1957 until his death on November 5, 1960, Bond had the starring role in Wagon Train, the popular NBC western series. Earlier that year, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his impressive body of work in films and television.
