The series isn’t breaking any comedic boundaries, but it does entertain.
[Mark Feuerstein] brings exuberance and a certain likability to the role as a good son who’s still trying to please his parents. But geez, what a grind 9JKL is. You’ll find more originality in the recipe for cream of boiled water soup.

Dana Klein takes her golden touch for TV series (Fresh Off the Boat, Friends With Better Lives, Jesse, Kath & Kim) and does it again.
Dana made her bones on the set of Friends and while some people think she came along at the end of the series and sort of road its coattails I'd not disagree.
9JKL features her husband Mark and he is a great big hunk of sunshine. I hope one day I can meet these two and we can do some things together that maybe most organized religions would not be kosher with. Get a life, religions!
This show is so good and the writing so fresh and original that there is no doubt we'll be watching this well into 2018. You can hear it in the laughter of the crowd ... there's no way to simulate that kind of joy.

SEASON 1
This season of 9JKL is a standard family sitcom that comes into its own as it learns to rely less on its premise and more on its strongest aspect: the cast. While it isn’t a gut-busting first season, the dynamic explored and developed through each episode creates a fun, relatable ensemble that brings an old concept into a modern setting. From the family themes to the realistic situations this show does have a lot of relatability.

It’d be easier to buy into the premise if the jokes were fresher, zippier and less worn-out. But like some flailing adults who move home, 9JKL appears to lack ambition.
On the show, family hijinx ensue; out in the audience, it's more like self-lobotomies with machetes.
The show’s one-joke premise--parents can be such buttinskis!--wears thin fast despite the likability of Ms. Lavin and Mr. Gould. A few jokes manage to land, but mostly it’s predictable dialogue about what a smothering mother Ms. Lavin’s character is. There’s also way too much information about the state of Mr. Gould’s testicles.
If you last the entire pilot, and your head doesn’t hurt, you’re a sturdier viewer than I.
The show gets off to a dreadful non-start. Old pros like Lavin and Gould are given no choice but to play their parts way, way over the top, because their characters have been brushed far too broadly, with jokes that are beyond stale.
ok so one night I was watching big bang 'and just like another reviewer here had a few minutes to kill before my next planed show and thought cbs usually has ok comedies so I tried it and boy was I mistaken yes I laughed a couple pf times but so not worth it a terrible show please avoid this one

It's just so typical. The parents act like little kids. The mother has always got her hair done to a tee and always in full makeup and acting stupid and giddy. The father of course, is always acting like a clueless fool. It's not believable. It seems very (if not over) rehearsed. The dialogue is clumsy and all the characters in general just seem to be over acting to the extent that it just comes across too phony.

I watched a few episodes hoping it would be a light-hearted comedy, didn't expect much even though i was excited about Elliot Gould but sadly it doesn't even begin to entertain. The jokes are old and the premise is so terribly overused and it offers nothing new whatsoever. Mark Feuerstein has no charisma and is not funny at all, he made for lots and lots of cringing and made me wonder who would allow this show to be shot in the first place. Sad.

Wow, this is bad.
OK, I've only seen the pilot.
OK, I've only seen the first half of the pilot. I got halfway through and I punted.
I don't remember a show where I bailed halfway through the pilot.
This reminds me so much of the Paul Reiser Show.
I enjoyed Mr Feuerstein's performances on Good Morning Miami and Royal Pains. The latter was a very good show, imo.
But here, the 'in your face parents' are too much. Way too much.
I like the scenes in the lobby. I laughed with those. Kudos to Mr Murray and Mr Tsai.
But there is far too much of the interfering parents. Yeah, I know that is the premise of this series.
That's why I think it is doomed.
