It is Christopher's first birthday. A stray dog roams the Street. Jerry breaks his arm in a road accident and his bike is written off. Ena takes the dog in and Walter tells her that he is staying at No. 11.

The men's outing to New Brighton gets off to a bad start when the coach breaks down. Concepta frets that Harry's new job will take him away from home a lot. Len is keen to know Elsie's answer to his proposal.

As Sheila contemplates suicide, Dennis raises the alarm and breaks into her flat. Frank is accosted in the Rovers by his angry tenant. Swindley criticises Ena's housekeeping at the Mission.

Jerry and Myra nervously tie the knot with Dennis as the best man. Ena is ignored by her fellow guests throughout the wedding. Len gets drunk at the reception.

Ena is left shaken by the vandalism in the vestry and a doctor is called. The police investigate the break-in. Len suffers a dreadful hangover following the wedding reception.

Walter returns from making his record in London, full of excitement. Dennis feels Laurie is muscling in on his discovery. Word spreads about Frank not buying a second shop.

Jack hires a suit for the ball. Ken and teacher-colleague Dave Robbins take over No. 9 for their rehearsals. Lucille sneaks out of No. 7 in the middle of the night to go to London on a lorry to follow Walter.

A man snatches Florrie's handbag in the Street but Jerry manages to get it back. Lucille returns at 5.00am. Harry tells her he's going to write to her school to tell them where she's been.

Rumours spread that a This Is Your Life (1955) tribute is planned for the party. The residents speculate as to whom the subject might be. Albert keeps watch for the arrival of the surprise guests.

Ken accuses Val of failing to understand him, prompting her to seek comfort from Dave. Dennis is warned that he faces the sack if he makes another mistake. Swindley is dealt a final blow in his battle against the nightclub.

Ena press-gangs the residents into going to the service. Frank demands £25 for the repayment for the furniture. Stuart Hodges turns up and Emily falls for him.

The children gather to watch Swindley's pantomime. Ena and Florrie take charge of refreshments while Minnie takes her responsibility as the prompt very seriously. David complains of a torn ligament.

Elsie forms a plan to squeeze her repair costs out of Wormold. The Barlows are ostracised due to David's alleged bribe. Ena hints to Minnie about her inheritance.
