Think whatever you want but this show is great, one of the rarest shows that makes me laugh. Even the little guy is funny I mean really funny! So yeah great.
Dr. Ken lacks any of the warmth, subtlety or cleverness of network sibling Fresh Off the Boat, instead relying on listless sitcom clichés and broad, obvious jokes (accompanied by loud, unwarranted audience laughter). It’s completely tone-deaf when it comes to depicting modern youth culture, and it wastes talented supporting players.
At home, Dr. Ken is just another sitcom-patented dumb daddy, although with an added shading of self-absorption. Mr. Jeong’s performance can best be described as over-the-top back around the other side and over-the-top a second time.
The show is deadly and Jeong, who did nice work in “Community” and those “Hangover” movies, is wooden and completely lacking in credibility. There isn’t a funny line in the entire first episode.
At best there were a couple mildly amusing moments here. Going in, neither a fan nor detractor of Ken Jeong but his character in Dr. Ken wasn't as annoying as I thought it might be. There is definitely more lame and unoriginal humor than clever and fresh but this is NOT the worst new series to debut this new Fall season and NOT the worst sitcom currently on network television. The bar has been pretty low for Friday sitcoms for several seasons and while Dr. Ken doesn't move the bar up, it hasn't moved it down, either. A show to fold laundry to while waiting for Shark Tank to begin.
Big fan of Ken Jeong but not in this show. Bad writing bad casting the only character worth watching is the daughter. can't see it making it the whole season. There are a few laughs but are far and few in between.
I wanted so badly to love this show. He was great as Chang. But he's still trying to be Chang. Chang was never a main character but comic relief at best. You can't have a show around just Chang. Maybe he was trying to be Don Rickles or **** Van Dyke, but even they had more empathy and more story in their show. There were some amusing jokes, but most all cliches and sarcasm. His character was just bitter and nasty, not funny. Maybe it'll get better. I don't know, but something has to change. I had such hopes for a show like this. Oh well.
What I learnt from this show is: Even though I like Ken Jeong, a comedy show with him is not a safe bet. Like, at all!
Yes, I like him, although his performances are usually over the top. He's been in shows/movies that were written well enough he could get away with it.
Not this one. I don't know how to say it in a polite way.
It's bad, it really is. I tried again and again, every now and then (that rhymes, I should sing it), but what I got was rarely funny. Call it stale, unoriginal, tired, it all winds up being: Not funny.
The show may have a strong link to Ken's own life, but if it is this unfunny, nobody should know about it.
Keep up the myth, bro! And I'm saying this the way Dr. Ken would say it, which is the way no one should say it.
I read that the show got renewed for another season. A true headscratcher. Makes you loose faith in mankind. I'll try not to think about it.
AFAIK it has a time slot before or after "Last Man Standing" with Tim Allen. Maybe there's where the magic lies. That show knows how to pander to a target audience. For five seasons! Well done Tim! And it helps Dr. Ken...sadly. You can help, people. Don't watch it.
Remember the jokes Sonic makes in 06? Those jokes are funnier then every episode of this show. I mean come on! Really Ken Jeong? You were funny in "The Hangover". So whats your excuse for this mess?
