That fusion of the simple and the vibrant is what makes the show worth tuning in for. Final Space is working from a template, but it’s adding colors that make these journeys well worth taking.

This dysfunctional family comes together in exciting ways that lead to a lot of conflict, and they’re tested in ever more traumatizing ways, with heart-breaking results. It’s these characters that make the show worth watching.

As a satire on science-fiction and the world we ordinarily live in, it is not as clever as "Futurama" or "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" or "Galaxy Quest," series with which it shares certain features. The comedy leans toward things adolescent boys find funny. ... But it clips along and looks good.

Final Space needs to find a smarter path to its humor (and force its main character to grow up), but the Futurama-meets-Steven Universe premise holds promise, and with some adjustments, this series could potentially launch into hyper-speed.

Something got lost in the translation. Final Space isn't as remotely entertaining as, say, Futurama, nor any of the Fox animated series nor the non-animated Third Rock From the Sun for that matter--and especially not TBS' other, non-animated slice of brilliance, People of Earth, that O'Brien also executive produces. It's hard to ask people in the Peak TV era to stick with an animated comedy that's not exactly working on any level.

It was hard for me to take to heart what Olan says about it being one of the first series with consistent changes and sticking to it, like Gary losing his arm, the loss of characters, anything that shows consequence and not going back on it. I do however feel that the pace is not bad, especially being with the swift story development, which I felt like I wasn't even missing out on anything. I seriously felt a rise of attachment to the show as it went on, the only gripe I have while watching this season was that I have to wait till next week and now I'll have to wait till season 2. I really hope people give this show a chance, and not have expectations by comparing it to a type of animated show that they watch on a regular, as if other forms of entertainments style or story and animation is the bar that is set. Other than the people who actually have legitimate reasons of disinterest, I would say give it a chance if you feel like it's trying to be something that already exists, and treat as most would for a non animated show. What this show does good is it's decent animation. Where it falls flat is its lack of developed characters, and the 1 developed character is cringe-worthy because of how sexually aggressive he is towards the 1 female lead; think Pepé Le Pew, the horny skunk. Voice acting is amazing from everyone, EXCEPT, the male lead; I am very aware it's some dude trying a hero voice. It gets annoying because of how forced it sounds. Series plot-wise, you don't get much reason to care bc the world isn't developed enough. Character plots are handled the same. You get too many arcs thrown in episode 1, none progress, and it's really hard to care for the characters in the in-episode conflict/resolution plots bc the protagonists and antagonists are still complete strangers. In closing, the show is a poor substitute for better written shows like Rick and Morty, American Dad, Venture Brothers, etc... The show is fine, just don't expect any sort of satisfaction watching an episode. Full Review »

When it trys humor, it's very hit or miss, coming into the show, I thought it would have done better with it's humor, but the more episodes I watch it gets harder to accept it's mediocrity. Overall the characters seem predictable and the cringy boring dialogue wise. Full Review »
