You’ll laugh out loud, wince often, and wonder how Gen V gets away with half of what’s displayed – which is my way of recommending this brilliantly batshit show to anyone who will listen.
Like “The Boys,” “Gen V” may be too much for those who prefer the comparatively clean-cut superheroes of Marvel blockbusters. There are seriously bent sex scenes, and the violence is next level. But for the rest of us, it’s a wonderfully warped alternative to your friendly neighborhood superhero tale.
Super cool story almost as good as The Boys. Lots of peoples seem triggered for political reasons but I think they have forgotten that in this universe everyone gets trashed
Great stuff so far. First 3 episodes set thet one really well. I had different (lower) expectations, but it's great so far. It continues the same ideas, vibes, setting from The Boys, but it feels fresh and unique with a new narrative voice
“Gen V” retains the edge, cynicism and (aptly) adolescent humor that make its parent show tick, suggesting “The Boys” is far from the creative fatigue now plaguing juggernauts like the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
And while, at this point, it’s certainly fair to question whether things like fountaining blood and viscera or penis jokes have run their course, at least you know what you’re getting. And there’s something to be said for a good (if familiar) time.
There’s no single performance as likely to earn accolades as Antony Starr’s ultra-intense take on Homelander, but the cast of relative newcomers is generally sturdy. If the series becomes frustratingly rushed as it progresses, within that rush and those choppy narrative choices, I kept finding enough moments of giddy inspiration to be entertained and sometimes more than that.
There’s a lot to like about Gen V, with one standout action sequence as inspired and inventive as it is undeniably hilarious for reasons we won’t spoil here, but it nonetheless constantly feels as though that special intangible something that made The Boys what it is has been found sorely wanting.
Gen V constantly resorts to icky humor for fear of losing our attention. Despite its flash, its swaggers of confidence, this is a curiously self-conscious, uncomfortable show, forever offsetting its earnestness as if needing to prove its coolness.
Very much enjoyed this and it is an absolutely worthy spin-off to 'The Boys'. It keeps the same breakneck speed and gore of the parent series whilst elevating other aspects such as the worldbuilding. I loved the appearance of people like Ashley and Homelander in this too. The only thing I'm worried about is that I hope they don't make too many spin-offs to the point it gets exhausting to watch like recent Marvel stuff. Nonetheless, this is a hit and has me so hyped for the next season of 'The Boys'
I've watched the whole season and it's time to reconsider my rating... The series was not bad, but it could have been better. The first three episodes were excellent... And then the loss of quality began: the characters stopped developing, their history no longer affected them, the main protagonist, Marie, is flat and uninteresting - simply plank of wood. A lot of very bad and lazy writing. Short, without logic - but yeah, still spectacular... Final episode was so lazy, almost cringy! I'm disappointed. This series wouldn't have made it on its own if it weren't from The Boys franchise.
It's hard to sum up all the things that made me regret wasting time on this show. I get the feeling it was chaotic, full of propaganda with addition of kinda comedy elements that were not really fun. I wish somebody could cut the episodes and make a 1.5-2h movie instead. It could then get 5/10 for being twisted version of X-Men with week script.
This is the worst pos ever made, I kept watching just to see how much worse it could get and boy did it get worse, every episode was a more ridiculous than the prior one the whole thing is made around the promotion of the current social justice insanity, their idea of humour seems to be in displaying lots of ****. It has gone as far as to attempt to normalize paedophilia in episode 6.
