The lack of bitchiness admittedly makes this Queer Eye a little less funny than the first; most of the comedy weight is provided by Van Ness, the most quick-witted of the group. It is great, great TV. Much credit goes to the group of highly watchable experts, whose breakout stars include Karamo, a satin-swathed bro whisperer; Jonathan, a whirligig of sass and kilts and moisturizing wisdom; and Antoni, the self-consciously pretty boy and supposed food whiz. The Queer Eye reboot finds perhaps even more pathos than the original one. The transformation in the premiere episode is a heartwarming hoot. This is a fabulous, funny, incredibly uplifting show. The Fab 5 comprise a team of great inspirational guiding talent.

usually, I hate reboots but Queer Eye 2018 is everything that we needed and don't even know it

As a late in life gay man, I actually really liked all the episodes, but in episode three where they help a beautiful black gay man named AJ come out to his step mom was extra special. Him and his boyfriend are mighty fine.... I thought each episode was sincere and heart warming. Then in episode 2 where a white police man and a black man have a moment , it is hard to fabricate and force the sincerity they were sharing, and I felt it could help a lot of straight men relate to gay men or white men relate to black men. The USA needs the kind of healing this show can offer. The little touches they add which are unique to each makeover really draw you in as an audience. Maybe I could get a makeover one day too!!

Initially the cynic/sceptic in me kept me from enjoying this show wholeheartedly, but episode by episode Queer Eye gradually won me over. It's a show that deals with subjects, especially masculinity, acceptance etc. that are as relevant and important as ever. I remember watching the original back in the day thinking it was a very entertaining show, but I do think this 2018 reboot is a lot better: it's more nuanced, emotional and fun. The fab five seem like lovely fellas and the show is just generally a gay ol' time.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall the show is fairly endearing and the formula seems like a great idea.

I have on major gripe though: It too often feels staged - and what especially pissed me off about that was the policeman episode:
The start of the episode was already cringe and there was just too much awkwardness in that situation and things that didn't feel natural.
Them discovering the Trump sign and berating the policeman about it.
Then there's the scene with the black guy in the car berating the cop about police brutality.
And the end scene where the black guy keeps **** at the policeman yet again, but somehow the policeman is the bad guy.
This episode just seems to reflect the show-makers' political leaning and their intent to push a narrative, which in my opinion undermines their stated cause of getting acceptance for gay people.… Expand

These days, pretty much every reality show is scripted, the trick is to make the audience forget this fact. I applaud the agenda of encouraging tolerance and acceptance, but it just seems overbearingly forced.
The only points I can give are for the sensible moments between all the cringe and ham acting, where some decent grooming and lifestyle advice is given.… Expand

This series should have never been re-made. The originals were great and they should have left the legacy with those. Disappointed.
