Bidwell has created an utterly immersive new take on the Sherlock universe and delivered a dynamic, compulsive set of mysteries.
The further the season goes on, the more it sheds its procedural strengths and leans toward a more overarching story that gobbles up some of the potential to get to know its main characters better. ... Still, the pieces put in place over the course of these eight episodes provide a sturdy foundation for more exploring.

Maybe it'll get better after a few episodes, but I'm not sure if I wanna invest in this for now. It was just bland. And I loved the premise for it. Unfortunately the execution is lacking.
And at this point the diversity is just distracting. We get it, Netflix. Now can you go back to using it when it makes sense?

There have been so many variations on Sherlock Holmes that the idea of another -- especially built around teenagers -- didn't provoke much enthusiasm going in. But The Irregulars proves unexpectedly fun, in what amounts to a Victorian version of "The X-Files," revising the most familiar characters while introducing a major dose of the supernatural to Baker Street.
The Irregulars has a lot of good qualities and some fun ideas, but as a whole it doesn’t quite mesh. Clearly, this particular case was a tough one to crack.
An appealing cast saves The Irregulars from being a messier show. Not all the elements come together, but watching this group gel is enjoyable enough to keep viewers engaged.
The flaws point to a show that wants to be for everybody, just not anybody specific. The references here and there will appeal to the presumptively erudite, but that audience will recognize how far The Irregulars falls short of "literate." ... The performances, given through continuity-jeopardizing designer coal smudges, are mixed. ... For all of my tepidness, I thought The Irregulars did a couple of satisfying things in the last of its eight episodes.
The show is something of a grind, the tedium relieved by sometimes appalling gore and uncharming characters.
My knowledge of Sherlock and Watson is not just limited to Downey Jr and Law's movies, so when I saw the trailer for this I was intrigued and willing to give it a shot.
It has all of the elements I find entertaining in a show: mystery, period, suspense. The sets are well done, I'm not sure if they're historically accurate, but they are aesthetically pleasing. The story is interesting.
That, unfortunately, is where the positive stops. The acting is pretty bad. Ranging between stilted and overdone, and that is with the same actor. I don't mind the diversity, this is a fiction story, but it does seem a bit forced. Especially when the acting is so terrible.
If you're looking for a historical, and accurate, show to watch, I'd pass on this one. I'd honestly pass anyway. It's boring and uninspired. There are definitely better ways to waste time.

Well that's one way to make Sherlock Holmes related screenplays unwatchable. Horrible acting and the story is all over the place (not very original either). It is like they took 4-5 hit shows/characters/stories, put them in the blender and whatever came out handed it to mediocre actors and that's what you got.
