It's a well-made hour of generic moments. [15 Apr 2013, p.44]
USA's new The Moment is a feel-good, serious-minded reality show with one drawback: It leaves its stories unfinished.
The Moment produces some genuine emotion, but a lot of it feels too predictable and, worse, generic.
It’s hard to escape a sense that in a slightly earlier era, this sort of enterprise would have been offered as Saturday-afternoon syndicated filler as opposed to a ready-for-primetime player.
Each episode has an interesting 10 minutes or so in which we see what it takes to be a real sports photographer or Nascar driver. But then we’re invited to choke down the notion that anyone who has taken a few pictures or driven a go-cart can leap immediately to the top of the profession.
