This miniseries isn’t quite the War Of The Worlds you’re familiar with, but it does seem to be looking like a fine apocalyptic survival story that at least has an ending, unlike some others that we’ve been watching on other cable channels for the past ten years.
Between the laconic pace and the intense focus on characters, Worlds is an alien invasion story that doesn’t spend much time fretting about its aliens beyond the characters whose jobs involve fretting about things. It’s much more interested in how people bond and persevere through shared trauma and survival instinct. ... But like any slow burn, Worlds reveals its charms over time, once the audience has shed any expectation of Overman following Wells’ blueprint.
The approach by Howard Overman (“Misfits”) is so joyless and even cruel that it becomes a dirge. ... The problem with monotony is it becomes impossible to care. Characters become disposable; their plight becomes superficial through the repetition. There’s a difference between something that’s intense and something that’s just brutally bleak. It almost feels like this “War” isn’t worth winning.
absolutely boring series, which if you need to watch, then only the beginning and ending of the episode. everything else is fillers with suffering that nobody cares about. little action, the plot develops very sluggishly. heroes are uninteresting and plot jumps from one to another are generally a failure. besides, it's not according to Wells
If you wanted a War of the worlds series this is not it. It takes far to many cus from walking dead. Not even worth the 1 hour it takes to see the first movie. They got a couple of things right but then made many characters that were not interesting and I actively wanted some to die. I still don't think anyone actually used the first name of the only black character in the first few episodes. I stopped after 3 episodes when I realized I wanted only one French soldier to live and not another character my caring to continue watching. Poorly written. Well acted and shot but that lack of writing skill is fatal.
Very odd choices with casting and the characters chosen to follow. Very slow start which would be fine if there is some development but there just isn't enough of that.
While there are some likeable characters, your also forced to watch very unlikable characters.
This not a good 're-imagining' **** classic. I cannot help but remember the radio broadcast that had people believing there was an actual alien attack going on, and the fear that induced... You cannot call this Science Fiction as there's next to zero on the front. This is a mere and dull drama of a few people walking around in a daze. To prove my point, watch the last episode (I will not waste my time) and if that grabs you, then jump in ANYWHERE and you will not be confused or lost - each episode is indistinguishable from the one before or after.
