The Internet is brimming with tons of new F-Zero fan content born out of the game's release with musicians covering and remixing sweet tunes, artists drawing their favorite characters and vehicles, and even speedrunners streaming and making videos. While the seeds of an F-Zero revival have been sowed by F-Zero 99, diehard fans know that this may just be the beginning of a new era for our beloved racing game franchise.
Despite its relatively unchanged look, F-Zero 99 is unexpectedly refreshing. Though it may not be the return for the franchise that fans hoped for, it's a triumphant and welcome look back at Captain Falcon's first game with a clever twist. F-Zero is simply suited for the -99 style structure in ways that Tetris, Mario, and Pac-Man aren't; it was already an elimination-style battle royale, just a small one. Adding more players doesn't just feel perfect for F-Zero, it feels natural. This isn't the definitive way to play F-Zero, but it is a brilliant take that supplements what worked so well in the original with thoughtful additions that make chasing victory utterly addictive.

This game has got to be one of the best free games ever. The idea of a 99 player racing game is crazy, and that they managed to achieve it with minimal lag is impressive. Racing is addictive and I can find myself playing for hours trying to get one more win, or enter one more Grand Prix. Races feel accessible to all, no matter their skill level, with a perfect balance of helping lesser skilled players stay in the race via the skyway without it feeling luck-based; the player who deserves to win wins more often than not. There's also a lot of strategy with choosing your vehicle, the timing of using boosts and the skyway, and going for KOs, which also serve to make races more entertaining and never feel like a procession. This game is just so fun and addictive and I hope Nintendo leave it playable for a long while to come.

It's astounding how addicting the game is, despite its old-style 2D graphic that likely will push you away at first glance. Although needing a bit of practice, the game is accessible even to lower level players, because as you lag behind, you get better chance of triggering skyway boost faster, allowing to take shortcuts when activated the right moment. Strategizing is possible: slowering a bit to hit gold bumper twice to charge skyway boost super fast. Every second you must pay attention to your surrounding and see if one opponent has low energy since killing other players recharges greatly your energy. The game is packed with subtleties and complexities. If a new F-Zero game is to be released, it has to incorporate F-Zero 99 best features.

F-Zero 99 currently represents the most richly crafted offering to emerge from the wave of nostalgia-driven endeavors on Nintendo Switch Online. Without deviating from the original formula, the company has chosen to set it against an immensely entertaining backdrop that nods to battle royale dynamics, creating a fast-paced and immediately addictive experience. On one hand, it serves as the perfect hook to introduce newcomers to the essence of the series, and any longtime fan should definitely give it a chance; on the other hand, experiences of this kind have been known to fade prematurely without a trace. The hope is that it will prove to be a small yet enjoyable interlude, paving the way for the series' grand return, perhaps alongside the Grande N's new console.
A satisfying blend of high-speed action, chaos, and strategy makes this glorious revival of the F-Zero franchise stand out. Let's hope it won't be another 19 years before we get another game in the series.
F-Zero 99 is a true love letter to the fans of the series: after almost 20 years since the last chapter, Nintendo has released the definitive and modern edition of a game that is now over 30 years old.
The 99-player highspeed-races are a fun experience but you can't call it a traditional battle-royale game. With a great ranking system and its nostalgic tracks and fun modes for added variety F-Zero 99 shows what the series always was about while still being unique on its own.
We thought F-Zero was dead and buried since 2004. But with F-Zero 99, Nintendo made a nice surprise by bringing the Golden Fox and the Blue Falcon out of the garage. The gameplay sensations of the time are intact and both beginners and beginners can enjoy this modernized iteration thanks to its unique and energized parts. However, and quite logically, it will not replace an entire episode (remaster or new game) that many fans were waiting for. The fault is very little content at the moment and the absence of a multiplayer mode. F-Zero 99 will bring a smile back, even if only for a few hours, to all fans of the license who have been patient for 19 years. And that's already not bad.
this game might be the best game ever made. i cannot think of a single negative thing about this game. its fun, chaotic, and you can go fast so its basically like sonic if it was good. you can unlock useless cosmetics for doing things and its free so theres literally no reason not to play it.

While it may not be F-Zero GX Remastered, I am beyond happy that Nintendo brought back F-Zero. I’m really hoping we see more F-Zero games in the future. That being said, as a fan of F-Zero since I got a SNES for Christmas in 1991, it still isn’t the same. This is more **** than anything. But I get it- they are teating the waters to see how well F-Zero holds up with a fanbase. F-Zero 99 was fun (albeit frustrating) for a while, but it is time for a new, REAL F-Zero game.

This game gets "to many points" for nostalgic reasons from most players
while this game is certainly super fun. Its also unbalanced and unpredictable. From the amount of red bumpers to the totally UNNECESSARY lucky bumpers (which have nothing to do with skill and straight up FU** other peoples races)
up to the Golden Fox being like Rank 180+% of the time I see the rankings
and other things like coming down from the skyway just to get dropped on 1-2 red bumbers and die
if Nintendo fixes a few things just a little bit and MAYBE adds other tracks in the future it might be a 10
it could already be an 8 just by removing the lucky bumpers and just put them in the Teamplay mode.
But to fullyexperience it, just give it a try and see if you like it or not and make up your mind yourself while not getting to distracted by the already amount of bots"driving with you" (lack of playerbase sadly)
