Linda Blair was born on 22 January 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri. She began her career as a child, with a regular role on the 1968-69 soap Hidden Faces. In 1970, she made her first theatrical film appearance in The Way We Live Now, and in 1974 she was chosen from a field of over 600 applicants for the role she is most famous for today, the possessed child Regan in horror movie The Exorcist. For this she won a Golden Globe and gained an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress. She also appeared in the sequel, Exorcist II: The Heretic. Blair ran into trouble with the law towards the end of the 1970s, being arrested and charged with drug possession. Her career suffered, but by the mid-1980s she was appearing in a number of successful low-budget horror and exploitation films, such as the 1984 vigilante movie Savage Streets. In the 1990s, Blair appeared in the Exorcist spoof Repossessed (1990), and more recently has been involved in animal rights and humanitarian work with organisations such as PETA and Feed The Children.
