Things aren’t breezy enough here to be a jaunty sword-and-dagger fest. Talon is too serious-minded for that with her understandable determination to kill her mother’s killers in addition to avenging the attempted wiping out of an entire race. The first episode never dawdles in this respect. Future hours may calm down considerably on the action front. But even at a slower pace, The Outpost seems to promise enough mayhem, intrigue and burgeoning feminism to make for a satisfying enough summer run.
The series, which is humorous enough and romantic enough and as bloody as it needs to be for the international market, is not completely predictable.

This was a great series. While the plot was predictable, the characters were well written and the acting ranged from above average to superb. Also, the setting was interesting. All and all The Outpost was an excellent fantasy series. I was disappointed when it was canceled.

Imagine a low-rent “Game of Thrones” wannabe with bargain basement special effects and a paint-by-numbers plot and you’ve got a good conception of the fantasy drama "The Outpost."
Outpost might remind you of the heyday--or low point--of syndicated shows in the late ’80s or ’90s. It’s not “Xena: Warrior Princess”--it’s more on par with the dreck of “Beastmaster.”
The Outpost is Game of Thrones meets Xena: Warrior Princess, as written by Enid Blyton. Or a monkey.
The Outpost isn't offensively bad. It's just head-scratchingly, "Why is this getting domestic distribution at all?" bad or "Geez, I hope The CW doesn't think it's going to be able to lure fans of The 100 to this" bad.
The Outpost is good fantasy series. It starts quite weak, with a simple story, cheap effects, a visibly short budget overall and to much focus on the physical features of Talon, the main character.
But all this changes in the mid of the second season. There are now many different characters with different motives and interesting clashes. The plot no longer relies on bad decisions, but on world building and character interaction. Talons actress has significantly improved and some others are great actors. The Budget now allows to show armies and fortresses. Magic and riches. Only most effects are still not great. But this is a sacrifice I am willing to make for a true fantasy series with a great plot. A genre rare nowadays and often mixed with teenage drama or mystery elements.

if you can get past the pilot, so badly and cheaply produced, it grows on you fast, the characters are full if life and well if you ever been a fan of the Witcher games you will enjoy getting lost in this medieval fantasy world, surprised me and cant stop watching and and want more..

Did I give it 8 because there isnt anything else to watch? Maybe. But aslong as u dont expect a game of thrones/tolkien hybrid with twice their budget and understand that this is more like a xena/davincis demons hybrid with half their **** starts to grow on you. Sure the 10 first mins made me feel like missed actuall pilot or something but as my brain slowy melted I started to understand I still like a good Tv-matiné adventure. This is original fantasy. they do something of their own here and build with their own stones. then they expand from that. the lore/setting is original it gives me the feeling of a random table top rpg adventure (like dungeons and dragons).
