MGR Revengeance has good set pieces and even better OST, but the combat system is garbage. The camera is broken, enemy hit registration is wonky, and your attack button is also your parry button, which is horrible game design, as games like Sekiro and Lies of P understood and delivered on this concept in a much better way. The story is nothing short of moronic, the visual animations aged horribly along with the voice acting, and the villains are written like baboons. Nevertheless, I would still recommend a playthrough, as the boss fights do kind of make up for the glaring flaws, even if they're pretty easy (except for Monsoon who is a bit annoying).
Bleh.
The key point to Revengeance is the combat, and while it's not as good as Devil May Cry, it comes close. It's badass, but it's not outstanding; you use light and heavy attacks, but no dodge button, which is dumb, but you normally cut through enemies fast enough for them to hit you, and that sometimes takes away the challenge to the game. However the combat is the only thing I could find that was good about this game. The story is worthless, the stealth mechanics are stupid, and the boss fights are repetitive and bland. The combat is satisfying, but the bad design choices make this game one big meh.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance gets a 4/10.
ok, the reviews from mainstream media on this game are bought and paid for, thats for sure, if you want an example of a publisher buying good reviews look no further than this game, its not an awful game but it is nowhere near an 8 and its not what it was supposed to be when it was announced, it was a game that was given up on and ressurected, and is not better for it, my main gripes with this game are, a horrible story with laughable voice acting, boring environments, a terrible parry system, it should be mapped to an unused button, and worst of al is the cutting mechanic, it is almost great, but the things you cut have stupid physics, like you cut a palm tree and it falls to the ground like it was made of styrofoam, the leaves of it perfectly still, it looks like it was carved out of a piece of foam rather than an actual tree, then the worst part is objects you cut just evaporate after a few seconds in a very lame way, you will be having fun cutting something into pieces and it just disapears in a very "video game that cant handle its own mechanic" kind of way, i get that you cant have a million objects on screen but it for sure could have been done in a better way than this, the grapics are nothing to write home about, this is just a very mediocre game, i got it for 5 bucks and played it once, will never look at it again and would rather have the 5 bucks
