I was surprised how good this game is , the game is made to be a game as there is no obvious story for why you are raiding the pyramid or why you came from Kansas ... but very fast paced and action packed time killer , awesome atmosphere and good enough graphics which is not so fancy but overall look is great , nice physics when shooting or blowing targets which I find it satisfying and adds a lot to the game , I wanted to give it 8 out of 10 but the game is so fun and I really recommend it , you have extreme variety of almost everything from levels , weapons , perks , abilities , every corner in the game has a lot of things , enough to say that each time you enter the pyramid the map changes completely (rogue-like) which in my opinion adds to how classic the game-play is but in modern way that you will never get bored of easily
What happens when you take a redneck on a go-kart vacation in Egypt, mummify him, and force him to shoot his way through a horde of nasty monsters in a procedurally-generated pyramid to earn the favor of the gods? The result is Immortal Redneck, an admitedly oddly-named Rogue-Lite FPS that combines several of the best aspects of games to come before it, and is a praiseworthy first foray by its dev into non-mobile gaming. Take the brisk movement, combat and diverse loadouts of Ziggurat, combine it with the money-based persistent progression of Rogue Legacy, and sprinkle it with the bizarre sensibilities of Serious Sam and you have a recipe for a pretty good time.
The game has a staggering variety of weapons, most of them useful, and a choice of character classes in the form of choosing an Egyptian god's favor. Each has a distinct starting selection of weapons, an active skill and starting perk. Some of them have more obvious strengths, such sa Sekhmet's health bonuses and Hathor's gold bonuses, but none of them are useless- Even Ammit, whose skill of removing some of your max health in exchange for additional health gained from kills, I initaly deemed useless given the high damage enemies do to you. Ammit was then the god I defeated the final boss with, thanks to her deceptively powerful "Bat's Nest" weapon, which is otherwise awkward to use.
Uniquely among rogueish games I've played of late, Redneck has three seperate dungeons in the form of pyramids with distinct interior decor from one another, as opposed to a single labyrinth of varied tilesets. Each pyramid has seven floors, with the third and final floors thereof having a unique boss. These bosses are fixed, meaning through successive attempts you might memorize their attack patterns.
They must be completed in sequence, with the second and third pyramids bringing a very sharp spike in difficulty- not just in enemy health and attack damge percentages, but introducing more complex room layouts, new enemy types, more difficult challenge rooms and spawning fewer and fewer health, ammo and perk scroll drops from enemies with each floor.
When I first purchased Immortal Redneck I had no idea just how long it would take to finally reach the end of the third pyramid. Wether you get lucky, get good or just get enough gold to upgrade yourself, Immortal Redneck will give you your money's worth in sheer time investment. It is indeed difficult, but in such a way that I did not find particularly irritating in the long run. You may find yourself needing to step away from the game for a bit though.
Doom but roguelike. Of course, there was more variety in Doom. The bugs are very troublesome and you cannot get the real fun of the game if you are not a streamer. Because the streamer mode is definitely more fun.
Immortal Redneck is a fast paced rogue-lite first person shooter that I enjoyed quite a lot.
I got some vibes from Serious Sam and other similar games while I was playing this...
Overall the game is fun and very easy to play. Its a rogue-lite so I don't see much of a story, but it's so fast paced that you almost forgot all that once you start playing.
The graphics are nothing special but I believe that the intention since you got a cartoonish art style very unique.
Overall is a very nice game, that I enjoyed and recommend. Here is a small YouTube video with the first minutes of the gameplay if you wanna check it out: ****/jg8wLv1J2y8
SummaryImmortal Redneck is a FPS set in Egypt with rogue-lite elements. Frantic gameplay, twitch controls and an arcade-style feel meet procedural dungeons, a complete skill tree, permanent death and 9 classes with different traits.
