If you’re hankering for a bite-sized arcade experience that is heavy on fun and light on content, Pirate Pop Plus is fantastic.

Nostalgia is a big thing these days and Pirate Pop Plus is definitely looking to build on that with its original Game Boy style visuals. While it can get somewhat tedious and repetitive at times, its simple gameplay style and bargain price make the overall experience pretty enjoyable on the go.

For all you retro lovers out there, this may just be the perfect escape for you right on your New 3DS.

Pirate Pop Plus is really just a victim of changing expectations in the market – if it had come out on the original Game Boy, say, it would be an easy rec. Fun, high score challenge, and look at how much to unlock, just incredible! But now it just feels very shallow, and the $5 asking price starts to feel weirdly steep for a game that would feel so much more at home on a phone, the last bastion for these kinds of "boot em up quick at the doctors office!" types of games. If it comes out there and has an awesome high score tracking feature or something, it's easy to recommend, but now if you just want to grab something fun and don't mind spending the $5, you could do worse.

If you don't care about unlocking all the customizations, achievements, high scores, or the few characters that hardly change the gameplay, then you'll probably get bored of this within 20 minutes. Even at a lower price, I wouldn't recommend it.

Great! Has quite a bit of content for a very good price. Challenging arcade style gameplay taking place on a screen similar to the originalGreat! Has quite a bit of content for a very good price. Challenging arcade style gameplay taking place on a screen similar to the original Gameboy is an excellent touch. Charming Graphics and music This is totally worth $5 to me. One of the better New 3DS exclusive games. I really think if this game looks fun to you, it will be, personally i would recommend Wind-up Knight 2 and this equally, and from there it's just down to personal choice. Sad to see it got lampooned by the critics, there's quite a bit of quality here. Just expect something simple with some flair. My only real complaint is that i can't imagine playing this on a smaller screen, defo make sure you have an XL or you're playing the WiiU version if you wanna get this. Expand
