While it lacks the arcade pedigree that makes other Switch-based shmups so popular, AngerForce: Reloaded has clearly been put together by a team that understands what makes this long-established genre so appealing. It offers tight gameplay, fantastic visuals and a stern challenge, but the addition of a rich Campaign mode – which rewards repeat play via a series of unlockable upgrades and abilities – extends AngerForce: Reloaded's lifespan considerably. Fans of the genre should ignore the lack of a big-name IP and pick this up as soon as possible, while newcomers can be assured that the gently-scaling challenge of the story mode offers a perfect introduction.
I don't understand critics whining about the grind. Every shmup requires grind to get better at it, except in Angerforce, you get tangible upgrades to make your ship, and even every ship, more powerful. The cell shaded graphics are really pleasing to the eye. The difficulty feels just right. One of the best things about this game is enemy variety and design. The developers did an excellent job here because every enemy that appears on screen you instantly recognize and know how they attack so you can prepare for it. A lot of other shmups the enemies are so similar or move so fast the only way to learn their attacks is level memorization.
Your special weapons add a great variety to gameplay as each character has unique and upgradeable special weapons. I play as the girl, the mine is okay for taking out a group, but the shotgun/shield combo is so satisfying blasting enemies away and can be used defensively to block bullets.
The game's almost perfect, but honestly, shmups have a very high bar when it comes to music, and angerforce music is just satisfactory, nothing more. Everything else is excellent. If you love the Skyforce games, you'll love Angerforce.
A very nice game for both beginners and more experienced players. Has a rogue-lite element of progression in campaign mode, and also the classic arcade mode. The graphics are excellent and the gameplay is quite good, in terms of stages and boss variety. It also supports TATE mode. For around $10 this game is a no brainer. A couple of downsides is the music is just OK, and there are places where the translation is a bit iffy (Chinese dev). Also during the tutorial and in reading sections in general, it just goes by too fast so you can't actually read fast enough.
AngerForce: Reloaded is a decent shooter that controls well and offers some fantastic boss battles, but the problematic health/continue system will probably limit its appeal to only the most hardcore shmup fans.
On the whole, I really did enjoy my time with AngerForce: Reloaded and I feel that it’s a great entry point for those who have a curiosity in the genre. Whipping out a stronger set of skills gained from the last run in the campaign provides a satisfying sense of power, making you feel forever outnumbered but never outgunned.
I had a blast with AngerForce: Reloaded… until I realised that to finish the game I’ll need to spend a lot of my time grind missions over and over to get anywhere. I felt like 5-20 minute play sessions at a time were enough to rack up points, buy a power-up or two and then tap out for a while. Which is perfect for playing on the go - provided you can make the most of that vertical perspective.
AngerForce: Reloaded is a challenging but rewarding shoot-em-up that you won’t be able to put down. It stands out as one of the best in its genre on Nintendo Switch.
Really great game - feels like a mix between Psikyo games and Sky Force. Unfortunately the Switch version has regular slowdowns, especially after upgrading your ship. I absolutely recommend the game, but if you have a choice, get the XO/PS4 version instead.
Decent graphics with nice bold colours and a good variety of enemies. Bullets are easy to see.
If you don't mind a bit of grinding, it is actually quite good for newcomers as each time you die, items gained can be used to buy permanent upgrades. Even if you are terrible at this type of game, the upgrades will let you see the end eventually.
There was a tiny bit of slowdown and stuttering but this only caused me to die once. Also, as it is a vertical shmup, there are great big borders on each side of the screen. I usually prefer horizontal shooters or vertical ones that use the whole screen like Jamestown. It does have a tate mode if you own a flipgrip.
Another issue is la lack of customizable controls making it unplayable with an arcade stick.
Apart from that, this is a really enjoyable game.
