Governor of Poker isn't a bad game, but it's not a good one, either. The concept of taking over the entirety of Texas by winning games of poker is quite cool, but it's a tedious grind against loads of AI opponents that couldn't care less about making risky moves, simply because there's no risk involved for them.
There are few reasons why a game that is available on the mobile market and also available for free on a Flash format should be released as a paying game for the 3DS. Other than players with a very keen interest in poker and who are not familiar with the other versions of this game, very few will find it appealing.
Those looking for straight-up, no-frills Texas Hold ‘Em can find it in Governor of Poker. Those looking for engaging goals and atmosphere, however, likely will not; the constant tug-of-war on the tables to build the funds to buy the next non-interactive building feels more like a chore than a real accomplishment.
