This might be one of the few games that can be trully called 10/10. not 9.99/10 but trully a 10/10
There are many reasons but for the game to be 10/10 it must have replay value.
You can play this game. Play for 40h straight, replay everything in campaing, play random maps, modded content. If you like this game it never get's boring. Hard to imagine this sentence in modern games
This was surely one of the best strategy game of all time: The gameplay is very complex and motivating. Like in Civilization you say " just one more round" and in the end you played the whole night. There are a lot of very interesting fantasy races to play. You need some time to discover the differences, so there is a lot to do. The music and graphics are fantastic and let you inverse in the world of Errathia. I appreciate the great and long campaign that links all the races and many missions together. But the missions are all the same: you start with few heroes and the cities arent built.
I remember playing that game many years ago, today I notice some boring elements in the game:
It is very time consuming and there are some mechanics, that are a bit frustrating: Heroes can flee, so the CPU flees and comes back with another army, just to reconquer your **** yes, CPU is cheating :/
And you will lose a lot of time to transport fresh units to your main hero. Did I mention how much time of your real life you lose?
I remember playing this game long time ago, Heroes of Might and Magic III was a very enjoyable experience for me at the time.
From a Technical standpoint the game was not anything impressive, Graphics and Animation are pretty average for a strategy game.
The Story is pretty little with no deep lore.
The Gameplay is where the game shines, lots of different options and things to do, different schools, monster each with different stats provides an experience with lots of time to spend on.
The world building is also pretty shallow.
The music is nice.
You can reach a point where you break the game, the A.I is not hard to deal with and you can beat it with couple of broken tricks which imo makes the game weaker.
Overall: I do recommend this game for old school fantasy strategy gamers.
7.5/10
Graphics aren't that great, story is boring, and combat is horrendous. Combat is really where the game falls down, more than anything. It's clunky, all about rolling everywhere, and doesn't really have any strategy involved.
SummarySpending even a short time with the game quells any doubt that it's anything but an excellent sequel and a first-rate strategy game in its own right.
