Your totems must journey from the underworld to the heavens in order to restore light to the land. Thankfully, Hoebear the vaguely bear-shaped Metabear will be your spirit guide in this quest. Rebuild the totem pole to bring back the positive vibes to Kalimba. In Kalimba, you play two coloured totem pole pieces simultaneously – one on the top half, and one on the bottom half of the screen. Avoid dark pits, deadly spikes and roaming enemies, but remember the totems move together. One totem jumps over a hole, the other jumps into spikes; one soars into the sky while the other tumbles into the abyss. Expand

Kalimba is perfect for sitting down with and enjoying a longer play session. And as a fan of beautiful aesthetics, I will enjoy every minute of playing it. The music is zen-like, and the controls are super responsive. The levels are pretty lengthy, and you get a lot of content for your money, so the value is there. Kalimba is definitely one that shouldn’t be missed.

A smart and slick platformer that just gets better the deeper you get into it.

The way that Kalimba builds levels around its swapping mechanic is exquisite. Every single level presents a new and creative challenge and not just a harder version of something that came before. Simply put, Kalimba's platforming is excellent and well worth your time and money.

Feeling suitably like a proper premium release, Kalimba is a delight through and through — and that’s just on the iPhone. On the iPad, you have the benefit of same device co-op which makes it all the more satisfying, while also potentially testing a few friendships too. Stick with those occasionally infuriating moments though, and you’ll be richly rewarded by an incredibly charming crossover of quick reflexes and lateral thinking.
